Because the people that run the system are absolutely fucked and don’t want to. Not they can’t. But they don’t.

One day, years ago, I read something and got real mad about it not giving a fuck about those millions of people. I got so mad it got me to crunch the numbers.

Short answer is the system could treat all of them.

I wish I could help more people than I do. The millions of people on the street being left to die should absolutely be afforded the level of protection Nick gets by the virtue of having a family. They should be given more protections because they lack that net.

And the system just shrugs and doesn’t care. The system shouldn’t be used to help people like Nick honestly because he has a family. That’s the family’s job. The system should be used to help the millions of people that don’t.

I’m thankful there seems to be a more concerted effort from people in the last several years to make it better. We just aren’t going fast enough.

It's now printed on 3 documents starting with the initial charging document, could just be an error carried over.

I think the main point of confusion for me is both times it's referenced as a modifier of some kind to the main charge. In the Order for Detention (attached) it's listed as Minnesota Statute: 609.378.1(a) [which is the general neglect charge including neglect by deprivation OR knowingly permitting abuse], with reference to: 609.378.1(a)(2) [which is the subsection pertaining ONLY to abuse]

it's listed as "Charge 609.378.1(a)" , "Penalty 609.378.1(a)(2)"

Then on the court casefile (attached) the charge is listed as Neglect 609.378.1(a) additional statute 609.378.1(a)(2)

This has the look of being maybe a misleading way in which court documents are printed, but Nick's "additional statutes" all seem to be relevant to the situation as we understand it so maybe not. Is anyone familiar with the syntax of documents like these?

Neither meth nor crack, the typical "close enough" substitutes for coke, turn blue on the Scott field test which I believe is the current standard, so they don't give a false positive for coke.

Is Cancerman Jim even capable of streaming? Opiates, chemo and cancer itself is turning Jim into a very glowing skeleton, he lost so much body fat and muscle mass that mild breeze would break Jim's bones.
 
There is no punishment that is equivalent to the crime of permanently damaging five young humans. As I saw a few people that have experience with this sort of thing have pointed out, that for Nick, this nose dive was just a blip in his life. For some of his children, this hellscape made up 20%~ of their entire lifespan. The amount of work to unfuck those kids brains and emotional equilibrium will be a lifelong task now, and statistically speaking, the chances are that because this went out for so long with the blessing of every other adult in their lives, this is their norm now. For them, adults are no longer a source of love, trust, comfort. These kids will have to thrive despite the nightmare that a few dozen adults willingly inflicted on them. The success rate of that is not high.

At no point did any grown person willingly engaging with the Rekietas act in a responsible way. There was clout to mine, sluts so drug addled they couldn't properly respond to fuck, even the detractors monetizing the content taken from chipping away at this family's life.
A cleansing fire is the least these people deserve. Starting with the people that knew exactly what was going on in that house and instead of reporting a concerning trend to literally any kind of governing body, took to their streaming channel to monetize the literal suffering of the kids. If a cluster of kids are so dirty, disheveled and down bad that they beg a random stranger in their house to make them food while his wife is getting fucked on top of Kayla's passed out body, one of the worst possible ways to deal with a literal call for help from desperate children is to make fun of it on a livestream. These people gave Nick their blessings to continue his tail spin, and upon seeing the kids pounding at the door, begging for help as the metaphorical house burns down around them, collectively shrugged their shoulders and said, 'weird. Glad that's not my kids.'
Complicit in this kind of evil is hard to handwave away, and in a just world, every one of these people that enjoyed a transactional relationship with Nick and Kayla while knowing even a fraction of what was going on all deserve to be pilloried.
