Why doesn't every image on Kiwifarms use webp?

Solution
FIVE. HUNDRED. MEGABYTES.
That is 150 megabytes less than the Orange Book standard for a CD-R, and we're at a point of time when even a 48x CD-ROM drive copies data slower than downloading it over a typical residential internet connection from another residential connection on the other side of the world.

Even those faggots that bang on about how GIF (which is pronounced like "gift") should be replaced with embedded, auto-looping MP4s have a point. JPGs and PNGs though, they're just fine. I am willing to sacrifice megabytes of space for compatibility.
I don't give a single fuck about compression efficiency compared to wasting time with a format that's incompatible with everything.
I've noticed that using WebP instead of JPEG for Internet memes saves about 20-50 KB. Multiply that over 10.000 times, and you have FIVE. HUNDRED. MEGABYTES. The savings add up!

A million bajillion programs handle images for various reasons and about 0.05% of them can use webp.
That's because we the people are not campaigning enough to make WebP the standard. How about instead of bitching about "muh compatibly", we expand open source program's abilities to properly handle WebP images?

Spend more on internet nigger. Literally using 3 decade old internet technology.
Don't actually use DSL, just said that for the meme.

Wow, that's 0.025% of the hard drive I spent 60 whole bucks on. That's not even enough to matter to the kind of autist who would collect 10,000 meme images.

So you gonna volunteer to do it? It's open source, if you want a feature, go clone the repo, add it in and get it added to the project.

Well your autism about a shitty unsupported format is even more dumb then.

This would help in the server space. Google needs to pinch their pennies youknow.

Only know Python, not well versed enough in programming to help advance WebP, yet! But I can assure you that you will be converted to my ways within 5 years or less.

ITT: nigger cattle who would have been equally mad at JPEG pre-1991 because it wasn't GIF or BMP
I compress every single one of my files in 7zip format to squeeze those last few bits out of the file size. If you use anything else because it's more convenient or compatible, you're a sheep.

Thanks, I'll get to learning someday.
Why dont we use gif and bmp

Its superior to jewpeg
gif is hilariously inefficient (4 megs for one medium res photo, really?) and bmp is exclusively lossless, offering no lossy mode. WebP offers both a lossless and lossy compression mode.
