All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

I'm going to be a bit more optimistic and say that change is still happening, since the collapse of 2008. Slowly, but it's happening. You can see signs already. Trump himself, Bernie's almost successful insurgency, and in other forms, too. Wells Fargo is going through some really hard times, even the CEO steps down the company continues to rock from the controversy over the fake accounts. It's not something that they'll easily live down and it's sent a signal to those elites that they're not invisible any more. And Congress should take note, too. Trump and Sanders' rise means that if they're not careful, they'll be crucified right next to Wells Fargo too.
Of course, the status quo can remain, but it's not going to last long, IMO.

Congress has an astonishing approval rating of 13%. And even then people don't really care enough to vote in the congressional elections or to rise up against Congress. I don't know what more they could do to tank their reputation.

I've been instructed by the campaign to expand my online presence, so I got my right-hand dude Joshua to come up with a list of websites where I might have some fans, in order that I could personally extend my hand in gratitude for all the support the great people of this movement have lended to the Trump-Pence ticket.

And so here I am, extending my hand in warm outreach. Hello, Kiwifarms .

When Donald Trump and I are elected in a landslide on November 9th, we are going to immediately begin the process of turning this country around. That means cutting regulations, ending the disastrous executive orders implemented by Barack Obama, and a little something I like to call "good housekeeping". That means getting the trash out of office and making our government sprucey again. Donald Trump knows how to do it, and he's the only man with the iron will to take the action this country needs. Donald Trump knows how to make America great again.

Now listen to me. Have you ever seen a bull get his skull smashed in with a hammer?

I do.

I was raised on a farm like the simplest of our American people. When I was nine years old I watched my father as he slaughtered our oldest steer, sixteen years old, Old Charlie. It was brutal. Blood and brains splattered all over the barn floor, little bits of grey matter hanging from the straw. I don't know why my father used a hammer. And for goodness sake, I can't for the life of me figure out why Hillary Clinton used a hammer to destroy fourteen phones containing potentially sensitive information.

Have any of you ever done something like that? Anyone?

The choice in this election could not be more obvious. Hillary Clinton is running to hide her past from the public, and Donald Trump is a righteous force of truth, the only man in the world who can stop her and put and end to this baffling corruption that has no business inhabiting our nation's highest office.

And I know you'll make the right decision.

Will you stand with Donald Trump and I, and #MAGA, friend?

Yours dearly,
Mike Pence

Never mind that shit, you said you were gonna have a wall built. Get to it.

As for me, I'll be continuing to chuckle over the tears of all the twits on Twitter kicking and screaming over "#repealthe19th."

The parts about liberal city-dwellers looking down on everyone who lives outside cities really spoke to me, as I live in the Midwest and it's like we don't even exist to people who live in cities.

But you exist to the guy who lives here:

Why would you want to be the governor of Indiana? It was awful. And I'm pretty sure there's already an election going on for that position...

Idk I thought I could bring in some Mexican food you guys already have shitloads of corn that could be turned into tortillas and shit.

The problem with rural areas is that pretty much the only major industry there is food production, and all of the food production for the entire country could be done by less half a million people (and I'm being generous there). The jobs are gone from rural areas and they're not coming back, because the US is a service economy now and you can't get service economy jobs in areas below a certain critical mass in population. It just doesn't make economic sense to have rural areas anymore-- unless you have guaranteed basic income and guaranteed health coverage, a "socialist" policy that the people in those areas don't support.

We're never seeing a 1940s-60s style boom in this country again. Even if manufacturing jobs came back, what used to take a factory of 10,000 men can now be done by 150 due to automation. A farm that required 500 farmhands can now be serviced by 100. This is a major structural problem with the economy and one that neither party seems to have an answer to. To sustain a nation like the United States, it used to take the labor of the entire United States. It no longer does. There just are not enough jobs for people. It doesn't matter if we are "losing on trade" (we aren't) or if can force air conditioner factories to open in the US. The person taking your job isn't Jose or Chan, it's XT-087B-4Y.

Rural people would happily work for much less than city wages, since they don't have to pay city rents or city prices. Why aren't major companies moving there? It's not lack of people willing to work. It's lack of jobs. Big cities provide jobs for hire receptionists, and administrative assistants, and PCAs, and all kinds of people who just can't do that kind of work in the rural areas because the jobs don't exist there.

And this is why the so-called liberal elite shake their heads at the rurals pining for the good old days. It is never coming back. The economic, demographic, and social factors have shifted irrevocably. For all the good it does they might as well be hoping feudalism makes a comeback.

I can understand someone looking back to the past with rose colored glasses. But when you get to the point where you idealize the past so much that you turn your back on the future because it's not like the past you're only setting yourself up for heartache.

I know this is a simplification, but a good analogy would be certain areas of the Middle East. Many of these places idealize the past and reject the present, and the only future they seem to want is for the past to come back. And what has happened to these places? They have stagnated and been left behind by the more future-focused western nations. Meanwhile other Middle Eastern countries like Kuwait and cities like Dubai are emerging powers because while they may look to the past in some ways they haven't shut out the future.

You can wish it weren't so all you like, but the world won't stop for you.
