I'm not a lawyer but I assume any chance that they'd have "just" charged him with a drunk and disorderly / public intoxication/ trespassing was lost the second his made contact with the cops while kicking them.

He's trying to make the argument that "0-100" on F is more "useful" because all the numbers refer to actual temperatures "outside" whereas "0-100" on C is not as useful because you only really ever use 0-40. And there's some point there, but he's making it very badly.

Like everything metrics based, blame piracy. Jefferson purchased extremely expensive stuff - weights, measures, etc to help us transition to the metric system. The shipment got robbed by pirates and the US never got them and we couldn't afford new ones so Jefferson basically said "Fuck it, imperial forever then" and then everything was based on Imperial so the switch to metric would be damn near impossible at this point, with every year that passes it becoming more and more difficult to switch over. By the time the railroad was invented it was impossible to switch over.
