There are plenty of fine dining places around especially if you head into Nashville. Even Jack's old haunt in Hendersonville has some nice non-chain places. He just never goes to those places. Upscale restaurants aren't really Jack's thing. I believe the last one he went to was that Italian place in Hendersonville a year or so back and that was only because he was peer pressured into it by his chat IIRC. I wouldn't even consider that fine dining just more upscale than Jack is used to.

There’s always a few hidden gems in every town that do this (use a dilapidated storefront, serve all their stuff on paper to avoid hiring a dishwasher) but I can recall at least a dozen respectable full service places in Chapel Hill that are also extremely good. Probably more now, as the town gets more Yankified.

Ofc the best southern food is had at home, not that I get to eat it much these days. :sigh: now I’m homesick.
 
Also fun fact: the Italian place in Hendersonville Jack went to is now closed after what, a year? Kiss of death for letting fatty in the door.

And these reviews are as insightful as his reviews on food which really come down to whether or not it's "Gud".

And oddly enough he says "The Marvels" has no agenda when the biggest word that's thrown about when talking about it is that it's too "woke". Haven't seen it myself and probably won't because I'm so tired of capeshit but even the story from what I've seen is woke as hell. Fatty's mind has truly gone bye bye.

That said a lot of the best BBQ really is in roadside stalls with not much in the way of amenities. But Jack will go to some chain or other shithole at a strip mall where the "BBQ" comes out of a plastic bag and gets microwaved before being plopped in front of his bovine ass.
