I've always considered Thanksgiving a combination of a fall harvest celebration and the fact the Pilgrims were grateful to have their bacon saved. Over time, commercialism has rendered Thanksgiving to just another holiday where people get a day off to get together or do whatever they wish.

I have similar sentiments as @Twice Baked Turnip that those who want Thanksgiving canceled are killjoys who either have little to enjoy or be thankful for in their lives or simply take pleasure in shitting on others and their beliefs with which they disagree.

It's one thing to be reasonable in realizing people were treated shitty 200-300 years ago compared to now, but to self flagellate over it and expect white guilt over it accomplishes nothing versus trying to move forward and learning from past bad actions.

Change is needed, but the two big teachers unions in the US would never go along with the necessary changes and have a tendency to resist reforms that aren't self-serving. They simply lobby for more pay for teachers even though more money towards classroom instruction doesn't always translate to better results.

Being a troon has to be one of the worst mental illnesses out there. They can see what others look like after they’ve been mutilated but convince themselves they will be the one person who is passable. This mindset was actually what drove me away from "the community". Being part of the B (that actually eats muff and sucks cock for real not pretend online) there was always this element of performativity required. "Oh I had no idea!" People in "queer" spaces exclaim "you look so normal!". And then as soon as people know, you're expected to join the on campus "queer" groups and go to the gay club and dye your hair blue and wear a flag pin and if you don't you have internalized homo/biphobia which you need to "examine". I have never been met with more shrill, self-aggrandizing, abuse than at the hands of "fellow gays" who thought I wasn't performing being a member of the community correctly because I was simply... existing as myself.

If you're actually what you claim to be there shouldn't be any performance required. You just are. Whether you wave a stupid cheap made in China flag about it or not. Though, of course, these ideas of social performance being inextricable from reality are what everything these days rests upon so idk why I expected any different.

I do wonder where it's all going to lead and what the cause of it was. I tend to blame social media for the increased emphasis on outward-facing performance to the exclusion of anything else but I feel like it goes deeper.

I have never seen someone on the Internet say this so well. Usually when people figure out that there is in fact a lot of money going into education here, they start foaming at the mouth about lazy teachers and their benefits and calling for massive cuts.

The real issue as you laid out is the culture. Years ago a local district was mulling over the data that shows a longer school day at other locations resulted in better outcomes and were trying to get staff on board for what would amount to 12 hour days with 100% of those hours being in contact with students. The union said no. Anyway, what wasn't discussed was that the success at this nigger school was because these Bebe's kids were spending less time at home and these broken homes are a detriment to the children that live there. Why anyone would want to import nigger school policies in a middle class district shows how incapable the US is at defining and addressing problems. Meanwhile a different nigger school gave iPads to every student which they promptly broke or fenced, and not one teacher could actually implement any ipad-based instruction as intended because you could not count on any kid to actually bring the device or not break the ones kept at school. This inflamed conservatives who now had something to point at while asking for the defunding of public education.

You can get dildos from science supply catalogs so kids can practice putting condoms on, and the last school I did an accreditation tour of had a roll of "Safe Space" stickers that they showed me (thanks I hate it, but yay, I can check a box now), but that doesn't cost much. Administrative bloat at the DO, dust-collecting Smart Boards, and workshop trainers from Berkeley are the bigger offenders.

I recently started talking to a cisman who is very sweet and we have a lot in common, we’ve hooked up once and talked on the phone for a few hours. He talks about wanting a future relationship with me and to move in together. I have tried to be honest with him but there’s two problems I’m having. A thought exercise for you, dear Kiwis: imagine all valuable aspects of your life, be it a family, a career, a hobby or even your beloved pet.

Then strip it away, one by one, starting with the most important ones. Imagine how your life would be without those aspects and how would you replace them. Peel your life like an onion until you go so low the only value your life has is providing a few minutes of sexual pleasure to a stranger who was looking for a warm body to spend the night with.

This is so, so profoundly sad and bleak. This Christmas, Dear Kiwis, I want you to think about all those valuable things you have and be grateful for them. I’m more convinced than ever that these people wanna spend the holidays alone, if not that, they wanna be around a family they can provoke.
