Sega still lives rent free in their minds when even they had fallen from grace in the mid-90s. Sony kicked their asses and even then Sony has also fallen from grace by the early-2010s.

I know that most Sonic fans with more sense than myself put Sonic CD, Mania, and the original trilogy high above games like Frontiers, Generations, and Unleashed, but I’m just not one of them. Give me cringey Shadow the Hedgehog with a Billy the Hatcher gun, I beg of you.

Superstars is excellent and has not only become a day-one buy for me but has me reconsidering my thoughts on 2D Sonic in general.

I think him putting Shadow the Hedgehog over the 2D games is more damning than him not liking Sonic 3, which is the most overrated of the original trilogy.
 
I guess Iizuka was right when he said 3D was the way to go for 2D Sonic games rather than spriteart. The journos are licking it up, and the children who play the games don't care.
 
The reason they are going 3D on a 2D game its because its cheaper than doing good sprite animation

Why? if nobody is reading this and its not even part of the canon then why fund it?
 
Yeah this video is accurate to the sonic fanbase to a tee. It feels like no one can come to agreement with what the want out of a sonic game. Thus, sonic team tries to juggle to many things trying to figure out how to please the rabbid fans who don't know what they want.

I think it is something to do with how sonic is marketed in japan. I think the more cutesy aesthetic appeals more to that audience. Luckily it is just an Amazon.jp pre-order bonus which amazon.jp can ship internationally so you can get the skin that way. Though, I will say I wish the game had that artstyle to begin with.
 
I hope the Last DLC update for Frontiers is good. But, I don't know I haven't really touched the game since beating the game at the end of last year even with the recent updates. I guess i just feel burnt out by the game. Maybe, if it is truly substantial enough I may come back to it.
