They aren't banned exactly they just won't even distribute them again, like the recent lottery card shit for Dominaria United they "found" some Legends packs in the warehouse and sprinkled the card into packs and they explicitly removed Barbary Apes from the distribution because someone somewhere might chimp out.
When the Lost Legends were distributed via Dominaria United all cards by Harold McNeill were withheld. In addition, Barbary Apes, Craw Giant, Gwendlyn Di Corci and Pyrotechnics were deemed unsuitable for redistribution due to their depictions or flavor texts.[4]

I worked at a game store buying and selling these little things. I'm well aware of what I have for the most part. But I don't have a local place near me anymore so I'm grabbing most of the more expensive stuff and shipping that off to some shitter online store.

When Legends cards got slipped in with Dominaria United collectors boosters that's one of the cards that was one of the ones they stated they removed from the circulation of the hidden Legends stuff.

There are other cards that are banned cause they are "racist" Imprison, Pradesh Gypsys, Invoke Prejudice, and a few others are legit banned cause "racist" are also not even shown if you look them up in the gatherer.

I was specifically talking about Barbary Apes, not the memory holed cards like Crusade. Apes are on the reserve list so they (probably) won't reprint them but they didn't memory hole them either. They just refused to distribute them.
 
I went and looked up all these cards expecting something that is actually worthy of being called racism, and these cards are all incredibly tame. I know Wizards is 100% cucked, but I expected there to be at least a little substance there. The sensitivity that people have about things like Crusade and Jihad in particular is frankly ridiculous.

Edit: Also, in my looking I found that Invoke Prejudice has a multiverse ID of 1488. It's perfect.

Since this site is probably the only place autistic to care, I remember reading in one of the novels the dimensions of Mirrodin and the wiki supports it.

Mirrodin has a circumference of 1400 kms and a diameter of 450 km.

For reference, the moon has a circumference of 10, 921 km. The earth= 40, 075 km. I can't remember the actual matg, but Mirrodin is pathetically small. Even if you gave New Phyrexia every benefit of the doubt. A multi-plane invasion was the most retarded plan anyone could possibly conceive( authors included). Especially, considering, Dominaria is twice the size of earth. The oil was their greatest weapon, and with time could have easily infected the entire multiverse using sleeper agents and defending from planeswalker attack. Mark me mad at the internet, but using war as a set piece without any of the strategy is a pet peeve of mine. War is atrocious, but full of good story opportunities.

A multi plane invasion is incredibly stupid even without that.

Consider some of the planes we are discussing the invasion happening in

1. Dominaria - Has a world ending threat as Tea Time entertainment.
2. Kamigawa - Has Several GODS running around able to fight back, back in the Kami-Gawa war O-kagaki one shotted an entire army by accident.
3. Tarkir - 5 Elder Dragons
4. Ixalan - 5 Elder Dinos, Crazy Vampire Army..Psycho Pirate army
5. Ravnica - 5 out of the 10 Guilds are RULED BY A PLANE THREATENING LEVEL BEING AND THEY BEAT BOLAS WHY WOULD YOU EVER INVADE THIS PLACE
6. Ikoria- Giant Mutant Beasts.
7. New Cappena - RULED BY FUCKING DEMON LORDS AND AN OLD WALKER

The only not dumb thing the Phyrexians did in the list was avoiding the Meditation Realm because they at least avoided the two most powerful Beings in the multiverse, and you know what? THIS ISN'T THE DUMBEST THING in the story.

Elesh Norn had Jin bind the Glistening Oil to her existence so that when Teferi Phased out New Phyrexia the entire Phyrexian Army went to dust because the oil poofed.

Wow that is hilarious putting it in numbers like that.

What COULD be interesting is if the story leaned into that as a consequence of hubris. Like Elesh Norn had no idea just how big the multiverse was, constructed this plan, and then too late realized her invasion tree was hitting everywhere at once instead of having any control over it. Then her downfall is realizing she bit off more than she can chew and while New Phyrexia could maybe overwhelm one plane at a time, it couldn't take them all on at once.

lol... wait are you serious?

/facepalm

How dumb is wizards???? You should not only leave the glistening oil a threat, but you should introduce a counter-method & clean-up crew to wander the multiverse to fix it. That way you then have 2 ready-made storyhooks dangling for future sets. 1) The oil wasn't dealt with in time and the Phyrexians are starting to arise on a new plane again. Or 2) The gatewatch/cleaning crew show up on a plane to take care of the oil left from the invasion.

It's not like you have to do that for every set for the next ten years, but if you're working on a plane/set and are like, "we can't come up with any interesting concepts" bam! You've got 2 available you can fill in anywhere you have need.

Yep completely serious, I think Wrenn and Teferi phased New Phyrexia out and Zahlfir Back in it's place.
 
The story looks dumb, I despise the gimmick of combined legendaries, and I have a suspicion battles are going to play out in an extremely... uninteresting way. I can't help but to compare them to Sagas, which are just so much more... elegant? at the idea of delayed, incremental gratification. Once they spoiled the whole of ONE, I had an inkling it'd be a shitty limited format, and it definitely turned out to be one of the most boring and uninteresting ones in a long time.

I have a feeling a lot of people are going to enjoy this limited format when it first drops because new and shiny... and then they realize how absurdly swingy battles are. Some battles are stone-cold useless unless you have significant advantage, and some provide so much fucking tempo that the game probably just ends that turn. Let's say someone plays the battle that bounces one of your dudes, then uses that opportunity to flip it? Now that it's flipped, you're basically in no position to flip any battle that you have through combat. If you lose board presence early, you're almost never going to see the opposite side of a battle - stupid. Another format where tripping up for a single turn has the potential to immediately lose you the game, great.
 
So there was a leak (or more like "leak") of the mini set coming out in a few weeks. Mostly it was made for commander cards they usually poison limited/standard with to sell packs except they didn't have to do that this set because they did that with bonus sheet cards.
