Metal Sonichu is super cute, but its typing is ass. The Magnemite line makes Electric/Steel work because they have Levitate. Without that, Sonichu is gonna get fucked up by the weakest of Ground type moves.

You do realize that Magnemite line doesn't have Levitate, right? It's either Sturdy, Magnet Pull, or Analytic. In comp, Magnezone functions as a tool to fuck fellow Steel-types in the ass with Hidden Power Fire. And even with its massive Ground weakness, it's still one of the better Pokemon all around, especially with its role as a Steel trapper. Electric/Steel is one of the best defensive typings in the games despite that massive weakness.

This is very true, this point also made me remember when Heatran was first discovered and some people thought that because of its x4 Ground weakness it'd be useless as a defensive pokemon but it ended up being one of best in competitive.

Defensively, Electric/Steel grants nine 1/2 Resistances (Bug, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Grass, Ice, Normal, Psychic, Rock), two 1/4 Resistances (Flying, Steel) and one Immunity (Poison), compared to two x2 Weaknesses (Fighting, Fire) and one x4 Weakness (Ground). It's a pretty amazing typing, the biggest limiter on Magnezone is actually its godawful movepool, rather than anything pertaining to its typing.

Well fuck, I'm stupid. This is why you always double check your info.
Hopefully Metal Sonichu will be able to learn Magnet Rise to help negate its Ground weakness.

Most Magnezone don't run Magnet Rise, the Ground Weakness isn't a big enough issue to waste of a moveslot on, especially on something that likes to Volt Switch a lot. If they don't need it than neither does Togedemaru.

Dunsparce already covered the one big thing about Magnet Rise not really being necessary, especially since one can simply switch out (Volt Switch or simple switching) into something that can better deal with Earthquake.

On that note, I'd be shocked if they didn't give Magnet Rise to that thing, considering that it's a move commonly associated with not only Electric-types, but Steel-types as well, the only Electric-types that come to mind that don't get it are Electric/Flying (Zapdos/Emolga/Thundurus), even the Tynamo line gets it.

I'm just waiting to see the evolutions of the starters - as much as I can say what I want based on the first one, I really need to know the whole line before I make my choice.

^By far my favorite thus far. I don't know why, but there's something very appealing about Tapu Koko's design; the only thing I'm going to complain about is that it looks much more like an Electric/Fire type than an Electric/Fairy type, and I would have preferred the former typing even though that would have made it easy to wreck with Ground types. I think somewhere they said there's a guardian for every island as well, and I'm thinking this might be the legendary trio of Alola, and I'm curious to see what the other guardians will look like.

I'm generally indifferent with most of the other designs, though I did get a laugh out of this generation's Pikachu; deep down I'm hoping the shiny variant will be yellow in some form just so a Sonichu nickname is even more fitting.

This may be a longshot, but... the Pokemon staff have made in-game references to things like Twitchy Plays Pokemon before... is there any way that at least some of these lolcow references might *possibly* be intentional? Food for thought. (I would*LOVE* it if they were meant to be references!)

Gamefreak is a Japanese company, I doubt they even know what Sonichu is. I don't think they even made a TPP reference and it was just put there unnecessarily by NA translators.

If my previous post didn't already spell it out, I really dig Drampa, it's so retarded and I love weird Pokemon like that. Normal/Dragon is a bizarre typing if I've ever seen one and it has two interesting abilities in Frenzy(A new one that increases special attack when it gets below 50% health) and Sap Sipper.

I'm curious how expansive its movepool will be, since both Normal and Dragon types are known to have a wide variety of coverage moves compared to other types. Even if it ends up being sub-par competitively you can bet it'll find a place on my in-game team.

I'm gonna call mine Drampapa.

Tapu Koko might represent the Hawaiian god of war, Kukaʻilimoku. "Koko" is Hawaiian for blood and "tapu" is similar to "kapu," the Hawaiian word for holy. Hala describes the battle between you and your rival as an offering to Tapu Koko, fitting for a god of war and the closest Pokemon could get to the human sacrifices performed for Ku. One site I found on Hawaiian culture and mythology says one of Ku's animal forms was a chicken, and Tapu Koko looks like a rooster head when its wings are closed. Finally, Ku is one of the four major deities in Hawaiian mythology, and the Alola region is made of of four main islands.
If Tapu Koko is based on Ku, then the other three guardian Pokemon will likely be based on the other major Hawaiian deities: Kane (god of life and light), Lono (god of agriculture, rain, and peace), and Kanaloa (god of the ocean).

Honestly the first thing I thought of when I saw togedamaru's typing was Coldsteel the Hedgehog, but the Sonichu part is even better

Here's the artwork of the recently revealed Pokemon:

I've gotta say, I'm digging how some of these names have roots in Hawaiian words. For example, Tapu Koko is a combination of tapu (Hawaiian for sacred or holy) and kokō (Hawaiian for the sound of chickens cackling). Popplio is a combination of pōpō (Hawaiian for ball), and ʻīlio-holo-i-ka-uaua (Hawaiian for the Hawaiian monk seal; meaning "dog that runs in rough water").

Me and cutiefly are going all the way to the elite four and then we'll retire together on a quiet ranch property in Kansas

This artist created some Canada-inspired Pokemon and they're just incredible:
