Pretty sure he's been a brony since day one. I popped over to his YouTube channel and went as far back as I could. His earliest videos he has MLP characters in some of his thumbnails; you probably wouldn't do that unless you're a fan.

That said, yeah, actually buying literal toys, for yourself, as a grown man, is way more embarrassing than simply watching a cartoon meant for younger audiences. Though buying a life-sized plushie has to be a step above that.

Thing is his criticisms aren't terrible, which is why this makes me particularly sad. Guess I never noticed when I was watching him, he was just making good content back then

No, I get it. It's always upsetting when someone you liked turns out to just be a dweeb, or worse, a lolcow. It's an unfortunate side effect of people getting more and more comfortable with using their real faces and identities online instead of using pseudonyms and staying anonymous as was encouraged in the old days of the internet. Well, that and no longer keeping things closer to their chest and instead oversharing. All you can do is ask yourself if the content is good enough to put up with some eccentricities, or if you want to cut ties and unsubscribe.

Reading up on the French revolution and it hit me. There are so many parallels between adult Disney fans and the pre-French Revolution aristocracy. Consoomers culture, people behave like the European aristocracy but without political power or status. The aristocracy is famous for not wanting to marry, grow up or have children. In fact, modern LGBT culture in the west can be traced to the aristocracy.

Like I can tolerate people like ls mark phantom strider. And Steve reviews and THEY'VE all shown their faces to some extent and shown that they splurge on collectibles now and then. But the difference is I grant them leeway because they don't post selfies that make me ask. "He didn't poke a hole in the bottom of that bluey plush to fuck it did he?'"
