Still less painful than playing standard.

15% is too low. Considering WotC is the only part that actually makes money, while having two completely useless products (Arena and D&D Beyond), they need to drop almost 50% of their staff, and cut the products and services they were working on.
DNDB is hardly useless, if you think some magic players are simps you haven't met the average dnd 5e normie. it's also the only way to get digital access to their shit, they don't do PDFs like literally every other RPG publisher on the planet.

they don't do pdfs because they expect the normies to suck it up

It wasn't useless until they made it such by trying to milk it.

It's kind of goofy how bad WoTC and Hasbro are at monetization. They probably have a ton of options to make money, but instead they choose the worst way every time, and fail to even properly copy successful options. Let's put it this way, people actually collect Pokemon Fat Packs, no one collects the MtG ones, why's that?

and what's worse, they were right.

they didn't really fuck up beyond afaik, it's just expensive and a crappy deal. if you want to see them being really retarded look at the OGL mess...

Meanwhile it was just WotC stuff that did poorly. Everything else did okay (as usual). About 5% increase on average or so but that's terrible for them (supply and demand is still a huge concern for toys). Just more reason why Hasbro needs to drop the dead weight that is WotC. Maybe if the new Dungeon and Dragons movie fails they'll finally just give up and sell it like they've been planning on for the last decade. WotC based games haven't done well. D&D books don't sell as many as they would like and they can't justify a new edition of the rules every two-three years like a company like Games Workshop can. Magic The Gathering has buyers fatigue with all the sets that come out (that includes things like Secret Lairs which some channels have forgotten about) and third party support in the form of deck protectors and what not from Ultra Pro. Plus how often people even bother to buy packs when they can just buy the singles which Hasbro will never see a dime off of.
Meanwhile even with the recent increase in prices, GI Joe and Transformers continue to sell well with Transformers being the better selling IP thanks to video games/ tabletop games, movies, comics and other merchandise. They also have IP's like Marvel, Star Wars, and other Disney brands as well as their board games.
Despite what people are saying on Youtube, MtG did make $1.1 billion in 2022, up by 7% the previous year. Which in turn amounted to 18% of Hasbro sales. The biggest reason for the increases in the past three years for Magic though is due to lock downs and people staying home to work now. The bank of America has already taken them to task about their release schedule for the game as it will (and often has) hurt the market. Doing so dropped Hasbro's shares. There's really no way for them to win. Getting into a collectable game as a profit driven company was a terrible idea.

Streets of New Capenna, but Red is the new White - that's All Will be One.

This limited format kindof sucks, lol, it's so swingy. I drafted a pretty good WB deck and got slapped to shit after 2 wins. Then I drafted a pretty shitty WR deck that really struck me as half-thrown-together-garbage and went 7-2 with it. Blue is completely shit, to the level of RG in SNC. Some of those commons are just bafflingly bad

then 7-0 WB lol just draft all the one drops

Is the Tolorian academy guy as smug as he looks?
Videos themselves are pretty good and informative, usually well-researched. But he himself is a bit of a proto-cow; the fame and attention throw him into alternating manic cycles, wherein he becomes the insufferable king of the world who can do no wrong and then flops to the saddest man ever born please give him pity.

How he responded to the great, fiery peaceful destruction of property protests of 2020 is kindof the mark of it, whereby the slightest pressure on him made him go way overboard to try to pick up a bunch of boring, uncharismatic people for his show (as well as the established names, who are mostly white yuppies). There was a gem in some of that rough though, the fat black dude he often has on for the shuffle up and play thing is based because he so clearly does not give a shit

At the risk of restating the last two posts, he's a left leaning midwit that has some good takes on occasion in the narrow scope of M:tG. I think he's personally too milquetoast and a little cringey. His most recent episode was pledging to not use the word Tribal to refer to decks themed around one mechanic/creature type because some white person LARPing as a native online might get offended about it.

I recently began going to an LGS, and it's been very hit or miss. I have a handful of decks, but I still feel like I lack variety and don't know what I'm interested in playing. Do a lot of people in this thread play EDH, or is it really just for troons?

I'm thinking of building Mayael or Satoru Umezawa to cheat in big creatures, but it feels kinda gay. I'm not sure what to focus on or build right now, but I want access to removal and counterspells. I just don't know what I can play in U that's not shit. I guess that's an issue with the format. With so many options, it's hard to focus on any one thing.

Well, you might want to play anything that has UG in its base. But four colors is too many to use reliably, unles you have good lands. If you add black, you'll get most of the removal.

Also, always remember: if you're not playing mono blue, you're not using the gayest option.
