so to do some off-camera & media pressure campaigns to get the votes for McCarthy.
what are the bets that the show ends tomorrow at noon with McCarthy winning by some Dems voting for him over 20 that said no?

It won't happen, Republicans might cross over but Dems would never do so, particularly in the current climate.
Only thing that might happen with the Dems is convincing a few to vote present or abstain entirely, it would lower the threshold required for a majority.

Whether or not enough can be convinced though is up in the air because it'll take at least 31 abstaining to put McCarthy over the top with the current numbers.

Given guys like John Kasich are saying Republicans should just vote for a Democrat, it'd be the funniest option to have it go the complete opposite way.

But what I figure probably happens is McCarthy pleads with Gaetz and others to see reason (not give them anything), try for another vote to shame them, and this gets dragged out over multiple days until the Freedom caucus people get promised better committee positions. The Freedom guys have no reason to give in and the Rinos don't want to hand the reins to the Democrats (it'd be a bit much even for them). So the only ones that can lose out are McCarthy and the Rinos who'd have to give some kind of token gesture to Gaetz and others.

So we now have an answer to why Matt Gaetz and Paul Gosar were talking to AOC during the votes earlier. If Democrats had left the House during the votes, it would have lowered the threshold of votes which McCarthy would have needed to get elected as speaker and improved his odds. Gaetz and Gosar seperately went over to AOC and asked if any Democrats were going to leave, and she told them they weren't.

AOC apparently made a point of specifying to the journo who asked that Gosar still hasn't apologized to her for the Attack on Titan video.

they will force McCarthy to step back and get somebody a little less Rino to do the job.

If McConnell literally is telling people to vote for Jeffries (D) as speaker to prevent the MAGA uprising from stalling out McCarthy (RINO) in lieu of Jordan (R) then forget voting McConnell out, he'll need Secret Service protection for the remainder of his last term and beyond. It's possible that McConnells facade as master of the Senate is finally slipping. He's not acting in the calculated manner he used to which made him a valuable asset, he's making moves that suggest panic. Same with the other GOPe members, they're desperately scrambling and still haven't realized yet that MAGA won't go away just because they helped get rid of orange man.

That'd because they still think Trump was the wave when, in reality, he was the dam. The next MAGA leader will not be a naive boomer who assumes his party will line up behind him. And that thought terrifies them.

In addition, I think that they're waking up to just how much their "base" fucking despises them and, what do you know, WILL vote for representatives that actually represents them over Israel/the MIC/ Wall Street. And they're finding out in real time just how much of a thorn even just a handful can be.

If McCarthy falls that will definitely spook McConnell and he may do something that he usually doesn't.

Probably the latter. After all, backroom deal making has worked out for him pretty well in the past. We'll see how many people are willing to give him the time of day, though.

I don't think he's going to necessarily fail but he will be forced to make concrete promises that he will backtrack on like the snake he is, and probably try to cut some deals with the Dems to give him cover to run from his own party.
