Kind of want to ask her if HvB will have "Mod Support". Either way, I really want to come out with sweet mods for that game. Penis Tankboy, The Philly Spud, and Chris-Chan-Sonichu being part of the story.

After I asked her that question, I got blocked from her Twitter! I love having cows hate me this much. I can now add this cunt to my list of those cows who hate my guts. I was not blocked before.

So what's up with the whole visual novel/ text adventure fad in the indie gaming scene anyway? Is there an actual sizable market for them? Or is it just a case of being the genre in gaming with the least amount of technical skill (or effort) required to make, and still have the "honor" of calling yourself a game developer? I mean, these kind of people see being a game dev as a status symbol, as opposed to being a job or hobby like it really is. "Look, I made a game, am I in with the cool crowd yet?"

I just don't get it, most of this kind of shit is just poorly written trash. Where's the appeal? Unless it was written by someone with proper experience in writing fiction, but this is never the case, it seems.
Visual Novels can be successful as long as there's something behind it, whether it's quality or marketing. Higurashi sold over 500 000 copies worldwide and got PS2, PS3 and Steam ports despite being a visual novel made of personal shitty drawings (not as horrible as Kimberly, but still) and royalty free musics by a jobless guy, because he wrote something good and people liked and spread it. He started as low as Kimberly and now he's more successful than she could ever be simply because, unlike her, he put efforts into it.
No one wants to read half-assed pandering shit someone wrote to use for their own escapism. Kimberly most likely never leaves her comfort zone to reflect about what she does, research stuff in detail or observe life to find inspiration. She made a few incomplete Google searches about hacking to throw in a few buzzwords, wrote her self-insert into the story and probably put in some popular easy to implement tropes and ideas like the multiple endings. This is just lazy. I'll be surprised if she ever releases it, let alone make more than a hundred non-troll downloads. Pandering to SJW won't work : they spend too much time on Tumblr to read that stuff.

Does Kim know about this thread/the LP of her game in the games forum? I seem to recall her mentioning KF on reddit, but at the same time I can't imagine she wouldn't have a thermonuclear chimpout about all this if she knew about it so I kind of wonder if she has no clue.

Thank you for your sacrifice, she obviously doesn't want to give you the edge with her cutting edge tech.

This lady is reaching Flynt levels of "look at me I'm a womyn in tech give me moneeeeeey" self-importance

This loon may be one of the few people with even less claim to be a "woman in tech" than the man John Flynt.

Informative. It just sucks that visual novels tend to have a stigma amongst gamers. Visual novels are often pegged as being gimicky, filled with porn, and overall a lazy way to make games. But that's not the case. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of visual novels that people think are interesting such as Corpse Party or Phoenix Wright. But often times, wanna be game developers make those types of games because they think it's easier to make as opposed to spending hours upon hours working on coding.

The points you have discussed about her works is true. Even if the art was "okay", who exactly would buy it? Not many SJWs would be willing to donate an X amount of money on something unless it perfectly aligns with their perfect world. And regular folks wouldn't be interested in a MS paint looking comic if they could find something better.

Perhaps her comic would have sell if this was the 2000s?

They have a stigma for the same reason Walking Simulators do - because they've become a fucking nesting-place of the zero-effort game developer. Not really their fault.

The lady has absolutely no credentials beyond being an "assistant". To a guy whose expertise is corroborated by half-assed identity theft.

Higurashi
Higurashi is hours upon hours of walltexts and FUCKING EAR-SPLITTING CHICADA CHIRPING (henceforth the title), but at least it has an intriguing story regarding a mob killing, a dam and shintoism gone wrong.
It gives a new twist to the whole "meet the hillbillies" narrative clichè.

But HvB?
Lol.
It's an hybrid between a visual novel and a text adventure, with next to zero branching.

The TRIGGER component? Annoying.

When I play a text adventure game I want to be myself, not some Tumblrite.

When I play a visual novel I want to kick back, relax, open a beer and enjoy a good story without caring about healthbars and such.

Also, did she really forget to change the default Ren'py icon and to encrypt (if possible) the game files?

Downloaded it and had a quick look. Doesn't appear to be encrypted or obfuscated. I'm not familiar with Ren'py so I will have to do some study to find the code she needed assistance to create and debug. It reads as if the code is just some simple conditional logic and some variables to hold some state information. There is no executable binary to unpack/disassemble, just a stub for windows and shell script for Linux that launches the framework (?).

All of the images and sound files are in a directory and in the clear so you can replace them with whatever you choose to. So it is entirely "modable".

It seems that you can't encrypt the game, but you can pack it the old way into tidy .zip files.
It won't keep curious people away, but that way the project looks a tad more professional.

She still made it into the Feminist Deck

Feminists used to be able to look up to titans like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucretia Mott. Fuck, even Carrie Nation was pretty badass and she was goddamn insane.

Now, a deck of losers, scam artists, talentless Sonichu-level autists and then Kimberly Crawley, who stands out even in this crowd for pure worthlessness. A 40 year old dipshit who looks like she dresses in discards from a Hot Topic bargain bin.
