I think it's the fact that customers can get away with more scumbag behavior at a chain vs a mom n pop place. You act like an entitled cunt at Red Robin, they're going to bend over backwards to your demands. You act like an entitled cunt at your local diner, they'll more then likely ban you and half the town will likely know who you are and outright refuse to serve you. Happened to a lady in my area, and every business that isn't a chain, outright refuses to serve her.
 
Funkos feel like they are a literal psyop. Perfect scam for consumers of popculture because producing a line of them is so interchangeable. They all promote this weird sense of rarity even though millions are made and it all feels like the actual value of Funkos is far less than what they really are (not the selling price, the actual value I mean) to the point I feel like the Funko bubble might POP sometime.

I have friends and relatives who refuse to get out of their comfort zone. I'll buy them dinner at a mom and pop Mexican restaurant that I think is fantastic, and does bend over backwards to make sure you're satisfied. Then they'll take me out to dinner and it's chipotle. The price is the same, but the food is mediocre. I would rather give my cash to someplace I can sit down and enjoy myself and company. I wish I knew why people have such a hard on for tacky places that try to look authentic

When I was a kid, if I asked for new toys from mum and she said no, I'd make some myself out of paper and cardboard. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some scrap coloured paper from school and use that too.
I would make temporary toys with origami and throw it away when I'm done.

One thing I'd like kids these days to learn is being innovative like that and stop want want wanting new plastic stuff.

Baffles my mind that there are people out there, probably more than a few, who go out to eat not because they enjoy the food or the atmosphere but to be a cunt to service people first and foremost. We really need a culling.

Alot of people have anxieties both natural and learned around food that they control by sticking with what they know. New foods are always "dangerous" because you might get something you don't like or even hate. They really don't like that feeling. A new restaurant with different selection isn't exacting to them, it's uncomfortable with unfamiliar foods or familiar foods that are slightly off from what they are used to. There are so many thing that are different and to these people different is more often than not worse.

Familiar, safe and easy, that to them makes an enjoyable eating out experience. Chain restaurants serve these people well because they are all around recognizable and you know what you get even if this location isn't one you have been before. Foods have been tested by millions of people to hit all the basics.

Old post, but common people legitimately DO NOT KNOW how much valuable old stuff gets tossed out on a regular basis.

A female friend of mine (someone I've known since school and consider more of a sister than anything else) got a job at a funeral home a couple years ago, and her job is literally to just load the deceased's personal effects into a giant, rusty metal barrel and spend all day burning it down. Anything you can think of, she's reduced to ash at some point. 19th century furniture. Card collections. Old video games, including their boxes. Action figures. Piles of memoirs and manuscripts that were never published.

Sometimes she saves particularly neat stuff she think I'd like, under the table of course, since it's not exactly easy to explain. I reckon if she sold the stuff she was given off (and she's hardly ever supervised), she'd easily have a six-figure net worth by now. But they just cannot be bothered. So it burns.

Why would the funeral home dispose of a person's belongings, besides what might be in their pockets? I thought they just prettied up the dead bodies and sold coffins?

Truthfully, I never bothered to ask. But the technical term is a "burn barrel", as they've talked about it in parlance, and it's when their descendents aren't interested in taking ownership or they don't have any. Normally the city takes care of that sort of thing, but I think if their house was privately-owned, they get it instead. Might be to do with biohazards as well if the owner dies in their home, better to burn it than have a municipal worker die from disease.

I also might have changed one or two details for PLing purposes. Not too much though.
I have read some other people reporting this sort of thing on the internet too since I felt it was really fucking weird when I first heard about it, so it's not just where she works that does it. Guess it's more efficient or something.

But yeah, if any of you know an elderly/ill relative that owns something you want, ask them to give you it now rather than wait for them to die.
