One of the funniest types of consoomers are the Lego hardcore fans, who on the one hand they complain all time about the high prices, and on the other hand they keep buying whatever Lego makes no matter the price. Even if Lego take an overpriced shit right on their face, they'll still eat it just because it's Lego. Don't get me wrong, I like Lego too. The concept of a 100% modular toy that allows you to build whatever you like, from dollhouses and dioramas to inventions and realistic models, is awesome. But watching somebody buying whatever Lego produces (even if it's an overpriced crap) and still complain about the prices is so much fun

The hydration reminder thing made me cringe so hard. Why would you buy that when there are free apps that do the same thing or you could set a timer on your damn phone???? Or just live your life and drink water when you're thirsty instead of doing some weird gamified shit. If you need a reminder to do one of the most basic tasks of keeping yourself alive, maybe you should reconsider your life in general.

I can see why many people like Lego, but I still fail to see why some feel like they have to get every new set as soon as they released, even if the set is actually bad and no matter the cost. It's just plastic bricks, so why the rush and the complains that "they're too expensive"? If you feel like something is overpriced, don't buy it. Or at least not yet. Wait until the prices are down. It's not bread. It's not gonna get mold or something. Just relax and wait.

Lego creations have no functional use other than asspats. If you want to make something actually useful while having a convenient set of instructions on how to make it, try knitting instead. A sweater or hat beats a giant faux-sculpture of hogwarts or some shit that'll just take up space and get disassembled or tossed after a few months anyway.

Speaking of Phoenix Resale, there's someone who claimed that he tries to basically use his "celebrity" to get discounts on games at conventions. Someone claimed that he agreed to pay a price on a set of games at a convention and then when it was time to swipe his credit card demanded a discount or he wouldn't buy them. They also said he would convince someone to buy games for a discount at one booth and then immediately go and flip them to another booth. If that really happened then what a dick.

People like him are also the reason why people hate when hobbies become mainstream. Game collecting years ago was just a bunch of nerds who traded games with each other and sold games for reasonable prices. No one was greedy and often didn't care if a game was worth more than what you were getting. The rarest N64 games topped out at about $20-$30 max, double if boxed with the majority of cartridges being less than $10. These people would even leave cheap games at thrift stores so that someone else who wants to just play it can buy it. Now you have these opportunists who buy up every single game at garage sales and thrift stores and hoard them to sell at the highest prices possible. I'd rather people buy reproductions and deal with emulation than support these types of opportunists.

It's because the whole consumer and collecting thing starts becoming out of control and an addiction. It's basically obsessive compulsive collecting where you have to get every variant and every version of something. It used to be you would just get the ones you want or get a good deal on or whatever. Now you have to collect it all and it's never ending.

I don't think collecting in itself is necessarily bad. I'm a minimalist myself but I know people that have cool collections of items. The difference is they collect things that have actual meaning to them and don't go insane about having to have full sets of everything or special editions or variants or whatever and aren't stupid enough to overpay for plastic stuff that was worthless not too long ago. That's where the consumers come in.

Burgers and sandwiches in general just kinda start mildly exploding a little as you eat them no matter what due to how the laws of physics work, but there's an easy way around that that doesn't involve quirky "HEHE IF YOU EAT FiNgEr FoOD LIke A % YEAR OLD THIS IS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU!! BE SEEN AND HEARD!" shit. It's called a fucking paper napkin and it's a lot more convenient and flexible than a plastic half-cylinder.

They're not forgetting that the core reason that Disney as a company exists is to turn kids into rabid consoomers. So the cruises have kids only spaces too. Someone higher up with something approaching a sense of humour made one of the kids spaces the cargo bay of the ship.

honestly nintendo shit as a whole is crazy cause of retroomers. gamecube game prices are fucking insane compared to playstation 2 and original xbox games, the only ps2 games that really cost a fuckload of money now are extremely niche japanese games usually but the gamecube? you'll be paying up the ass for a zelda or mario game

I don't know why it's mostly nintendo in specific, I guess it's due to N64/Gamecube not selling as much as their competitors? but it's also definitely some fascination with Nintendo being the disney of gaming

I'd argue the price of Nintendo shit is almost entirely the "Disney of vidya" effect.
My other guess on why PS1/2 & Xbox is cheaper would be how much easier it is to pirate games on real hardware for the others:

• PS1 can use tonyhax to run CD-Rs without a modchip, along with the swap-trick.
• PS2 Has FreeMcBoot with either DVD-Rs or ISOs off a local file server.
• Xbox can be softmodded into booting DVD-Rs or straight from the internal hard drive (this one had the biggest drop in price, IMO.)

In comparison, the GC either requires a custom game save, action replay, or modchip, along with special DVD-Rs

Video game are reproducible, emulatable, and to use a semi-topical word, fungible. My phone can play Wii games in a resolution that would blow my teenage mind. A fridge can play doom these days.

You ever play the Sega Saturn? Almost all the games have a better version on another console. I have no idea why that console goes for so much these days. I bought mine with arcade sticks and 20 games for $20 and helping my friend with his school project. That's about how much old plastic should be worth in my opinion

The N64 and Saturn have poor emulation due to special hardware, so the best (and sometimes only) way is to buy the real thing.
Neither have a cheap way to run ROMs either.
