Lucky! So jealous. I hope it comes quickly.

I'm Q3. Probably towards the end. I reserved mine the Saturday night after they opened reservations. Sigh.

I've heard they have orders going through the middle of 2023 already.
I reserved about an hour after launch and got the 64GB version. Figured I can swap the drive myself.

Really? If you go to pre-order one now, their site says "After Q3 (October-December)"...

Now I'm thinking that even though it's telling me that, I won't get it until next year (I ordered in October).

This is the current table of (reported) deck email times in regards to queue:

Example: For US 256GB orders, they're almost to those who ordered within the first 30 minutes of pre-orders going live.

What...? They're still handling orders from within just the first half hour? I'm literally never getting one then lmao

Valve's manufacturing partners are still ramping up production on these, probably going to be at least a year before things are going full bore. (And that assumes minimal supply chain issues in sourcing components and shipping is timely.)

So basically everyone ordered the 512 it looks like. I reserved my 512 Saturday night. They say I'm Q3. I'm starting to feel like :disagree: on that. Unless reservations seriously slacked off between when they started and when I reserved mine or Valve is planning on being able to ramp up production considerably.

Oh well, I'll get it when I get it. I've waited longer for things. (Still hate waiting tho)

Is that the model you ordered?

This is why I laughed at people that said this thing was going to flop.
No, but I assume they're all similarly flooded with orders. I picked the cheapest one.

I was pretty sure it wouldn't flop but had no idea it'd be this popular. I don't think even Valve anticipated it.

Some news:

Even more supporting evidence towards the Steam Deck being a nice success for Valve, with SteamDB reporting that the Steam Deck was the #1 top seller last week.

The list goes by revenue, and the deck is $$$ but they go on to remind us that the deck is competing with Elden Ring right now, at ten million copies sold.

Not only that though, it's also fighting the Valve Index, which is in the top 10 for last week as well and costs quite a bit more — so it really is a show of early strength for Valve's newest hardware.

There's not much else there, unless you like rah rah Linux is great stuff, but a bit of a community cow mention: resetera makes an appearance with a kind of dumb take.

There's another mildly amusing point I saw come up recently like "Am I the only one hoping that Valve releases a more TV-centric version of the Steam Deck?" on Resetera that I saw pop up on Twitter. People sure do forget quickly huh? That was the Steam Machines. However, the Steam Deck clearly has a market waiting for it but I bring this up for another reason — Valve has solved so many of the problems that plagued the Steam Machines that caused their failure.

I can't source it, but the current order ratio is 1:3:6. So for every 64GB ordered there were 6 512GBs.

That said the time between waves should expand since everybody that wanted one should've ordered in the first few days.

Lol I might get one once the craze dies down. Was waiting for folks to confirm their hands on experience before considering it.

Bigger post on plebbit regarding queue times and order progress

For those of us yet to receive our Steam Decks, I've been tracking how far each Steam Deck queue has progressed for a few weeks. I thought I'd throw together a table for each queue that maps how far into each queue we are for each batch I have data on. The spreadsheet of raw data is here.

Orders started on February 25 and I started tracking data on April 7. The same week on Thursday, April 11 Valve started sending out a second batch of order emails. Lucky me, twice the work.

Thoughts:

  • 512GB is easily the most popular model, as it is the slowest in each region.
  • 64GB EU is the clear winner for availability (meaning it probably is the least ordered).
  • There is no clear indication that things "are speeding up" yet. Some queues are moving faster, some slower. I don't see a pattern.
  • If Valve is going to make their Q2 estimates for a majority of orders, they need to speed things up considerably.
