So ok. Getting enemies in a line or four square for hammer is fine but then some enemies appear and it's like.....hard af to group them especially with the timer (the rats in the sewer most notably)
I assume I gotta very quickly align the ones and press R to change the ring thing and then do it that way?

They fucked up Advance Wars too. Days of Ruin managed to kill the franchise entirely.
That seems to be the general consensus but I only ever played Days of Ruin, and I enjoyed it well enough. The more cartoony looking games never interested me. Still, seems like 3-0. What else do they make and ruin?

This is the Nintendo series that took the biggest, fastest nosedive. Fire Emblem is a good contender as well. Aren't they both made by Intelligent Systems...?
They are, although I don't know much about Fire Emblem as I never tried that series out, so I have no frame for its decline.

It says something about Paper Mario when the best game in the past 10 years can be described as "ok in certain conditions".

I don't understand why Paper Mario has to remain a guinea pig for "innovative" ideas when Mario & Luigi's effectively in limbo now.

Around 80% of their games were exclusive to Japan and some of them was an limited release. When they made it to the west, the only marketing that they got was "Marth was in Smash!" The only time that they were serious about the brand was with Awakening, which was scheduled to be the last game in the series.

But since IntSys has noted that people loved shipping mechanics in Awakening, we're stuck with shit like this for the foreseeable future.

I love 64 and The Thousand-Year Door. They were my first exposure to J-RPGs, not counting Pokemon. I loved their worlds, gameplay, graphics, music, characters and plots. I didn't care much for Super, though I liked its characters and plot. I haven't played any of the others, but I own Origami King and plan to play it eventually. I've also heard good things about Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling, which is apparently heavily inspired by Paper Mario.

Bug Fables started off cool, but the characters are unlikable and it's not always clear where to go. It's also too easy or impossible, depending on your settings, definitely could have used more balance.

Oh, and the main character is a faggot.

IS problem is it's being led around by people who don't know or care about their work. Fire Emblem was told to fucking sell because nobody wanted the DS games, so they just threw marketable things at the wall like Waifus and that mode from Pokemon where you pet the animal, Advance wars strangely had the weird as fuck issue of not selling in Japan despite never being released outside of it until a day before 9/11, so they had to rely on the west for sales and it didn't really pan out, and Paper Mario is just Nintendo mandates(can't have unique personality for the toads and party members because they don't want anyone fucking with the brand, so now here's Bob-omb the Bob-omb and the same handful of toads everywhere, Miyamoto saw nobody complimented Super Paper Mario for the story, so throw that in the trash, etc.) ruining it for the rest of us.

I wish i could remember better, but i remember Days of Ruin kind of rolls back a few of the things the last 3 games did, like CO powers. It's really not terrible, but the downward trend was enough to convince them to stop.

@Noonman the Japanese barely understands how the Western market works. Granted, it was initially from isolationism; but in this day and age, the passion that Nintendo and some of their partners had appears to have died off around the time Color Splash was released.

Oh I really thought that was Alice from Monster Girl Quest for a moment.

Alice is the best waifu.

Bug Fables reeks of furry autism from a mile away (Instead of bipedal mammals, we have insects who have OwO faces).

To add insult to injury, they took the paper mario artstyle way too seriously and it ends up looking kinda flat, it's not a pun I'm fucking serious. Any screenshot of the game on the Steam page looks boring and just plain.

That's not the worst part yet, the UI is the ugliest piece of shit I've ever seen from a popular indie game, except maybe YIIK. It's even worse than the first Paper Mario too.

It took me a while to figure out what I hated about the Bug game. And it's the outlines. They're too thick compared to Paper Mario's graphics and they're around everything.

It's "this is Paper Mario!!!" for people who have very foggy memories of Paper Mario. Which is understandable for games journalists and people who haven't played the series in a long time because Nintendo abandons their classics to rot on old hardware, but not so understandable for the developers of the game.

As an extension of my previous comment, I found this abomination by looking up online and I think this image alone explains perfectly everything wrong with Bug Fables.

Accentuated colours, thick outlines, shitty UI design with flat colours and simple geometry, compare this bootleg picture to the original and dare telling me you prefer the bootleg from the original.

The bootleg picture looks like any in-battle screenshot from Bug Fables, but with fancy effects.

It's super fucking incompetent.

You don't actually think this, right???
