>They won't play the indie game because the outlines are too thick and the ui is too simple
You don't actually think this, right???
I won't play the indie game because it was probably made by a furry and it looks boring. Also apparently the protag is a fag, so another reason not to play it.

As an extension of my previous comment, I found this abomination by looking up online and I think this image alone explains perfectly everything wrong with Bug Fables.

Accentuated colours, thick outlines, shitty UI design with flat colours and simple geometry, compare this bootleg picture to the original and dare telling me you prefer the bootleg from the original.

The bootleg picture looks like any in-battle screenshot from Bug Fables, but with fancy effects.

It's super fucking incompetent.
It's an indie game, of course it won't be as polished as an established dev.

Bug Fables reeks of furry autism from a mile away (Instead of bipedal mammals, we have insects who have OwO faces).
Furry autism? The game has very little of that. The only example I could think of is Tanjein and it's not like he's obnoxiously cute in game or anything.

To add insult to injury, they took the paper mario artstyle way too seriously and it ends up looking kinda flat, it's not a pun I'm fucking serious. Any screenshot of the game on the
The game could have definitely done with more detail. Especially in its environments as the "Paper Mario simplicity" they try to go for ends up making some later areas look very lacking visually.
That's not the worst part yet, the UI is the ugliest piece of shit I've ever seen from a popular indie game, except maybe YIIK. It's even worse than the first Paper Mario too.
Eh. The UI could look better, but for what it is? It gets the job done.

bro one of the protagonists had a wife, the other is a simp, and the third is basically a child who tf are you talking about. maybe try actually playing games before judging them.

It took me a while to figure out what I hated about the Bug game. And it's the outlines. They're too thick compared to Paper Mario's graphics and they're around everything.

It's "this is Paper Mario!!!" for people who have very foggy memories of Paper Mario. Which is understandable for games journalists and people who haven't played the series in a long time because Nintendo abandons their classics to rot on old hardware, but not so understandable for the developers of the game.
You talk about people not remembering Paper Mario then use 64's much simpler aesthetic as a comparison to a game that very clearly took influence from The Thousand Year Door. Though it's use of outlines is indeed poorer compared to Thousand Year Doors.

Miyamoto saw nobody complimented Super Paper Mario for the story, so throw that in the trash, etc.) ruining it for the rest of us.
That reminds me, from what I remember this was due to nintendo surveys and I've seen a youtuber point out that this may also be a result of most people just never genuinely answering nintendo surveys cause we all just did them for reward points anyway. Kinda unfortunate if you consider that.

A hat in time is great. Colorful and pretty. Animations are limited and their faces are flat images though.

Hades. Another great game. And it does look fantastic. Can't tell why you didn't use ingame art to make your point but you've got me there.

Cave Story. Also great. But it's not the best looking indie game by far and no amount of promotional art changes that.

Bug Fables isn't that bad looking for what it is. If you don't like it that's fine. Shittalking games you won't at least try rubs me the wrong way though.

So apparently someone is in the process of trying to recreate the scrapped 3DS Paper Mario game from the old E3 presentation that was sadly changed into Sticker Star. Except he's using the N64 engine and assets.
Chances are it will either get shut down by Nintendo or implode internally due to Discord drama (betting on either queer, trans or grooming drama. Place your bets). Still, it was nice to see what could've been again, but I won't get my hopes up.

There's also another fan project (by a french modding team) that's been in the works for four years now and is supposedly closer to finishing. Its more active with its updates than most fan projects and it even has a playable demo apparently.
Again, might either get shut down by Nintendo fags or implode due to Discord faggotry. Still its lasted this long without any issues as far as I can tell (unless I missed something), so hope for the best I guess.

I appreciate the attempt, even if it's inevitably going to get shut down. It shows passion that they'd even attempt it.

They've lasted 4 years so far. As long as they don't try to advertise themselves too much and make sure to spread the game via torrents (without getting greedy) then hopefully the shutdown-happy iron fists of Nintendo might not be able to erase their work. Maybe...

It would've been smarter to finish the project first and then release it, in my opinion.

It always is, but some just can't resist attention whoring in order to feel validated in what they're doing. Meanwhile others think that by attracting more people they'll get work done faster, which usually isn't the case as seen with all these stupidly large modding teams larping as devs and treating a hobby like a job or PR move. Some of the best mods and fan projects I've seen have been done by lone autists with too much time on their hands.

Still not much else to do but hope these frenchies don't screw up and are able to release it.

Modifying your (legally copied) ROMs and posting them isn't actually illegal
Actually, it is; that’s why most rom hack sites require hacks to be submitted in patch format so they have to be applied to an official rom. The only exception I’ve seen (that doesn’t advertise itself as “download ur FREE roms here!!!”) is SAGE since Sega doesn’t even care about taking down roms, let alone rom hacks.
which is why things like simpleflips romhacking.com can exist.
Call me MATI if you want, but it grinds my gears that Simp just directly copied romhacking.net’s name - the site that’s basically been the home of rom hacks of all kinds of games for about two decades - for his SM64-exclusive autism project. His reveal video for the site acted like he was the first person to ever come up with the idea of a website for rom hacks, and that SM64 is the only game that people have ever bothered to mod. Hell, he could have called it sm64central.com as an homage to smwcentral.net and it would’ve been less shameless.
