When Nintendo comes out with a new console

Them, nerds and tryhards: Nintendo doesn't care about consumers! Have you seen the shitty graphics in Fire Emblem Number 132? They changed rice balls to donuts again! There are only 151 Pokemon!

Me, scholar of leisure: Yay I like to play video game :)

I'm still wondering about Chrono Cross tbh.

Is it really that bad of a game?
No, it isn't. It's great. You should play it.

So I've been overseas for about a week and this is what I've been able to get so far.

Lelouch (mostly due to CC co-piloting) and Ogami (provided you have DLC1) also work well for covering stat deficits due to level differences, but overall, Cheer helps but doesn't really matter as much since underleveled pilots really do catch up quickly without boosted XP buffs.

Daunt, Analyze, Attune, Foresight, and I guess Wish to a lesser extent are all the preferable buffs + any Commander-type pilots (see Lelouch and Ogami) when just straight leveling, although they also work for general play + some of those Relic map missions with their "extreme" requirements (i.e., Chain 5 kills in one turn, Kill all enemies within x turns, Kill the target enemy in a single attack – hell, just 100%ing (not counting the extra upgrades that got added with recent updates) Huckebein 30th and maybe throwing a few extra buffs on it is usually enough to wipe the floor with all of these by the point you're at).

God help you when you finally unlock Final GaoGaiGar because you've pretty much won the game by that point. Even better still if you managed to recruit Betterman Cataphract on top of that.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Combattler V + Voltes V (what with their 5 pilots), and any of the flagships also work just as well for Spirit Command anchor buffing as well, so there's that.
Besides levels up, I'm mainly increasing the kill count of characters so they could earn the Ace status at least, and the pilots I'm relying a lot to be granted with Great Ace status. The AOS system is pretty busted too.

Speaking of DLC characters, I do enjoy that they interact at random times within the main story & side missions instead of just having a presence only in their respective DLCs, at least for Voltes V and the Sakura Wars characters. For example, if you're sorting both Combattler V and Voltes V in the Evergreen mission map, the Eldora V team will believe they drank too much booze and see double which is understandable as the Voltes team comes from another dimension. I haven't unlocked the Gundam Hot-Blooded Orphans and Ultraman units yet.

If I had another complaint to say about SRW 30, it would be the disappearance of SR points. I found already weird that Expert difficulty mode in the International SRW titles removed any challenge in obtaining SR points compared to Normal difficulty. In Z2 Hakai-hen, I still had SR point objectives to complete even when the difficulty switched to Very Hard and some of them were indeed hard to obtain (in addition to SP being a precious resource there).

I've missed out on the Anime Sound Premium editions of V & X for Switch due of being myself a late Switch adopter, and they were digital-only (with timed availability) for some reason unlike T. Which is another layer of gayness from Bamco when the company is already trying to extort an additional amount of money for licensed songs.

Are those korean releases?

Yes, except Wonder Labyrinth
Yeah that one has the CERO rating on the cover. I've bought it on the japanese eshop back in December, it was a nice game albeit a bit on the short side.
Deathsmiles I+II is in my european eshop wishlist but I'll wait a sale for that one.

I'm not much into physicals these days with the exception of some games that are 10GB or more in order to save space on the microSD (Mary Skelter 2, Fuuraiki 4 and Xenoblade 2 as JP imports so far, in addition to BotW and Astral Chain), or if they contain exclusive features (such as the voice acting in Blaster Master Zero Trilogy). Digital is a lot more convenient on a portable device.

Atelier Sophie 2 is a pretty good port on Switch and seems to also meet my expectations as a much better title than Ryza 1. Gust discarded the flawed and retarded ATB system and went back to the more traditional turn-based battles (which have seamless transition with the overworld map as depicted in the embedded video).

Alchemy system in Sophie 2 is something alike to Tetris, where ingredients you choose are shaped in the form of blocks and you need to figure out how to place them all into a 5x5 grid. Each ingredient have their own generated block form and element (fire, ice, thunder and light all giving different item effects) upon gathering them.

The game allows shifting between Quality (by default) and Performance in the graphics options, but the game already runs pretty great in handheld mode with Quality enabled. Doesn't seem to be any difference with the PS4 version at a first glance too. It's again night-and-day compared to the disparity between the Vita and PS4 versions of the Atelier Mysterious titles.

Since the plot of the sequel is Sophie and Prafta being thrown in an isekai/parallel world through magic shenanigans, most of the characters are new so people can start with Sophie 2 no problem. There is a video recap of the first game present in the main menu in any case. Don't expect some sort of grandiose story like JRPGs tend to do so, Atelier games are more "low stake" and on the comfy slice-of-life side.

>Using Joycons instead of a pro controller
drifting aside, how the fuck do people not immediately get a pro controller as soon as they get a switch? I used those tiny things for like 3 minutes and my hands were crying in agony from carpal tunnel
I don't really have any problems with the joycons themselves, and get to use the default grip accessory in tablet mode. The Pro Controller is mainly when I play docked or as a second/third controller for local multiplayer between friends or family.

Look at this large handed freak.

I've been playing some Mario games on my Switch, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe and now Super Mario 3D World.

I like these games because they go "BING BING" and the little Italian man says "Wahoo!"

In all seriousness, I know there's a lot of cultural baggage surrounding Nintendo now but damn, I've been having a blast, Mario really is gaming in it's most purest simply fun form, I loved how NSMBU felt very much like an unofficial World 2.

I've been having so much fun in fact that it makes want to distend my jaw in a wide open mouthed smile.

Movie tie in games barely exist outside of smartphones now.
So weird to remember a time when every big movie had a tie in game clogging store shelves.

I would consider that one way though in which things are better now than in the past, since so few of those games were worthwhile it's better than they just dump crap on smartphones instead of clog store shelves.

Surprised no one has mentioned this, but a few days ago, Nintendo acquired another company by the name of SRD. Apparently SRD has been working alongside Nintendo for four decades, all the way since the 80s. I've never even heard of this company prior to the acquisition, but apparently they were integral to Nintendo's development process back in the day, as they were Nintendo's only available team of programmers (Nintendo didn't have in house programmers till the 90s). They had a hand in programming nearly every game Nintendo ever released, for every console Nintendo ever released. Since the original F-Zero, the last game they were the main programmers for, they've largely worked as a support studio.

This acquisition marks a major policy change for Nintendo in regards to acquisitions. First off, Nintendo, historically, has not been a very acquisition heavy company. They seemed almost scared of using M&A. Now this is the second major corporate acquisition for Nintendo in roughly a year (after they acquired Next Level Games on March 1). Second, this is a company that has worked alongside Nintendo for decades, and Nintendo made no attempt, as far as we know, to change the relationship till now. We could be seeing a major policy shift from the company, one that could have long term ramifications.

The only question is: whose next? HAL Laboratories? Intelligent Systems? Camelot Software Publishing? Grezzo? Good-Feel? Something bigger?

I want to buy the physical version of astral chain but I cannot seem to find it in the usual stores, and it is overpriced in our version of ebay. Metroid dread also seems to be out of stock in quite a few stores, thankfully SMT V is still in stock, guess I'll buy it before they run out.
I'm baffled at how hard it is to get physical copies of games that are not even two years old.

I don't have a tv or a capture card so I use my switch on handheld mode and it makes my hands get cramps after a few hours. I was debating between buying an 8bitdo and switch pro controller since the price points are similar. I ended up going for the 8bitdo since I've heard the pro can suffer from drift issues (like most modern controllers) and also heard many good things about 8bitdo gamepads, sucks they can't wake up the switch from sleep mode but how well.
Back to handheld mode, my biggest issue so far is how uncomfortable it is to press the minus button and I'm not sure if it's because I am too used to symetrical controllers (like those of playstation) . It is much better when the joycons are slotted in the joistick handle.

Spider-Man 2 and SNES Lion King are my gold standards for movie tie-ins. Stuart Little 2 on the PS1 was also good. Chicken Run had an okay MGS clone.
My nigga.
