Turkey claims the fighter was warned many times that it was violating Turkish airspace, the Russians insist they didn't cross over the border.

Considering the Russian air force's habit of turning off transponders and ignoring hails, plus their love of testing the responses of NATO militaries, and Turkey's increasingly hardline Islamism and hatred of Assad, we'll not know whose claim is correct until an independent can investigate.

Either way, this is not good.

Well, the pilots parachuted out apparently.

Bailing out over northern Syria is no picnic either. They're in for a nasty time if they got picked up by the FSA, al-Nusra front, the Kurds, or IS.

Russia is engaging in Dick swinging, right out of the soviet cold war playbook on a global scale so it encroaching on Turkey's territory shouldn't be unexpected when they are engaged in the neighbouring country. Hell supposedly a Submarine was spotted in British waters this week and they have been doing flights skirting British Airspace for the last year.

They've been probing British defences since 2000 apparently.

Putin will always be the KGB man.

Indeed they have been, it's become prity serious on a few occasions if the roumours are belived to be true.
There is a political text called The Foundations of Geopolitics that call's for the isolation of the UK from European politics so it can control the narrative of the EU (aside from nationalist dick swingers if you follow a lot of money flowing into the Brexit campaign it comes out of Russia), all of the Current NATO actions are designed to counter this because Russia is back up to it's old tricks.

This is what the books plans for Turkey:
Russia needs to create "geopolitical shocks" within Turkey. These can be achieved by employing Kurds, Armenians and other minorities.

That book doesn't quite match Russia's current foreign policy - for example it advocates for fighting China and making friends with Japan, something that is obviously not happening today.
Dugin was allowed to make a few statements on TV last year, but besides that, his influence on Russian politics is very limited.

It's close enough and popular enough with the people that matter that it's the closest we are going to get without knowing what's going on inside of Putins head at this moment in time.

Both Russian airmen landed in territory controlled by the FSA's 10th Coastal Brigade. The rebels say they shot at the Russians as they parachuted down, and one was dead before he hit the ground while the other is unaccounted for.

Lucky for them they didn't land in IS territory. Last time those fuckers captured a Jordanian pilot, they burned him alive. FSA will probably just shoot the last Russian when they find him.

It's practically unknown in Russia, from what I recall. Dugin's only presence in the media is writing articles for pro-nationalist websites like Odnako. All mentions of it being used anywhere come from Western sources, which I wouldn't take at face value.

From my understanding it's REALLY popular inside of the Government and Political circles, not so much with the general public. I'll reach out to some one who I think will know something about it (who told me about this book when he was in Uni) he's offerd to lend me a translated copy in the past so I will see if I can get that from them too, because it might be worth a thread in Deep Thoughts.

Nope. He really can't. This is basically something he has to push hard on else he undermines his entire stance on NATO. This isn't your standard NK style incident either.

Crimean War II incoming?

This looks like stupidity on both sides.

The airspace is apparently of a tiny sliver of Turkish territory that juts into Syria about as thick as a Chick tract.

And Russia certainly knows exactly where the borders are and decided to ignore this.

Turkey has basically said don't do this unless you want whatever you send shot down.

They're in the right legally. I think they could have let it fucking slide, though.
