Rate me late, but I had to ask—is swatting such a problem among women? I always assumed it was more of a guy thing.

And lol could you imagine being swatted by some sperg in your online knitting circle? This is why people need to get the fuck off the Internet and meet in real life like the good old days.
rate *me* even later, but I knew Abby on lj in 2005 and I never heard about this happening, and lj was all gossip all the time. I'm not saying she's lying but maybe exaggerating.

edit: ok I found the entire thread, which she has pinned on her twitter. She is lying. I am not as much of a Big Name Textile Person as she is but I was part of all those groups and also worked in a boutique yarn store and the stuff she is describing never went on. She is probably taking minor incidents with socially retarded people and combining them with redneck stuff that has nothing to do with anything fiber related and blowing them up into a chance to make a big ol statement about Jan 6. I'm a little weirded out.

The fact that they're claiming people got swatted over crotchet is fucking hilarious. I can't get over it! On what planet does this sound like something to put out there, and act all sincere over?!! Insanity....

Since archive is working atm, I have some more.

I discovered this dude on instagram:

And a grifter/hoarder from ravelry. This started last year when she had to clean up her apartment to not lose it. She lives in section 8 housing, is "disabled" (funny how it's always something nebulous with those people, not a disability that is easy to prove). She only gets a rent-voucher, no other welfare iirc. She suffers mainly from "executive disfunction".

This installment in the saga that is "Goinne sucks at being an adult and taking care of herself" starts Thursday night. I checked my mail, and in my mailbox was a letter from my in house case worker. My apartments are supposed to be supportive housing, so we all have an in house case worker that is supposed to help us. Emphasis on 'supposed', because they have an odd idea about what that word is supposed to mean.

I won't go into too much detail about the letter, because I don't really have the energy, but the gist was 'I'm coming to inspect next Thursday. Your apartment better be clean, or I'm evicting you and also telling DHS you can't take care of yourself.'

The members of LSG (lazy, stupid, godless) started to give her money for her to afford a professional cleaning service specializing in hoarders, the cost was $750 or so.

But, it was clear that I had reached the end of what I could do alone. We're talking 6 months of accumulated clutter and mess, because of depression, fatigue, and executive dysfunction, with the added spice of deep self loathing and avoidance.

Suddenly, my support group was offering more than just emotional support. They were looking up cleaners that specialized in hoarding and other specialty cleaning services.

One week since the start of what feels like a new me. Okay, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but it still feels like a new start. I'm doing things that I felt like I couldn't, because I was too much of a garbage human to actually do any of it.
I've been consistently picking up after myself. I've (mostly) been putting stuff back where it goes after use (it takes a minute to rewire my brain, so I'm trying to be kind to myself).
My floor is still clear and open. The counters are clear and clean. There's no buildup of trash that needs a grocery cart to take out.

So, I’ve wanted to make videos for a long ass time.
But I need a laptop.

Surprise: Her lease is not being renewed, she has to get out by the end of Nov.

So, my lease isn't being renewed.

I found this out on Saturday, and the weekend was a whirlwind of panic and woe, at least until I figured out that non-renewal of lease did not equal me losing my Section 8 voucher, and therefore my housing,
https://ko-fi.com/post/More-apartment-woes-P5P66NK6N

In the middle of apartment hunting she discovers she owes a bunch of money.
So, still apartment hunting. I finally landed on one that seems good, but with one major barrier: I have $570 to pay to the utilities company before I can move in.
https://ko-fi.com/post/Updates-B0B26WS1N

After Nov she spent her time in short-term rentals and hotels. Now one of those poor idiots on ravelry offered her a place on her couch in her home (I'm sure this will end well) and today she is on her way there.

Oh, there were also discussions about her not declaring the money she was given. Not sure how this works in the US, but I don't think it's that much different from Europe, where you have to even declare when you get money back, because you used less heating over the last year.

First guy... looks like a majority of every other male knitter/crochet I have seen online, it's pathetic.

Second one? Definitely sounds like all the regulars of the e-beggars thread, like, if you put quotes from her and the other e-beggars I wouldn't be able to tell. The fact she doesn't outright state her disability gives me huge red flags, but the fact she is also a messy, hoarding pack rat doesn't surprise me because like I said, most of these knitters/crocheters tend to have some hoarding tendencies to some extent.

He's a "designer". 🤣 A lot of them seem to copy Stephen West, but none of them can pull off that clown-look like him.

Anyway, I added a pdf of the magazine to my earlier post, because it's down:
New drama developing.

This was released featuring a couple of cancelled designers/dyers:
(ETA: Link is down, added a compressed PDF, it's missing the magazine format and the links inside, original file was 217 MB)

Right now the major concern is the "harassment" of family members, which turns out to be a parody of the yarn-logo from a smiling baby to a crying one:

(archive is down again)

Now, Adella often puts her daughter front and center on her business instagram:
(Why does her daughters princess-photoshoot have to be posted multiple times on her business account? Never mind that all what she was wearing could be called cutural appropriation, she even wears a giraffe-lady collar. 🤮 Isn't she aware of all the pedos lurking there? It's not like she has no other content to post. Those aren't wise business decisions. )

Adella likes also to post occasional take-downs of commenters or customers and was involved in the recent Kristy Glass drama:

So, I can't but feel a little Schadenfreude about them getting a taste of their own medicine. Suddenly it's like "Talk TO me instead ABOUT me!", "Ignore it!", "Don't link it, because it upsets the targeted people!". :story:

The instagram of the magazine is worth a look, too, it started of as a private instagram of the guy in charge, he's pro-Trump in a way it makes people believe he's American, others have to point out that he's from the UK. He also defended Sockmatician and got blocked for it, because Sockmatician doesn't like Brexiters or Trumpists.🤣

ETA: I completely forgot the recent David vs. Goliath

Nekoknit (small inventor) vs. Addi (company)/Sylvie Rasch (knitting designer)

So Nekoknit invented those needles for knitting in the round in 2015 and recieved a patent for it:

neko3.png

In 2017 Addi comes out with the crasy trio:

crasytrio.png

They file a patent and try to stop the original inventor from selling her stuff, going as far as sending cease & desist letters to shops who carry her needles.
(The follwing screenshots are from the video where she talks about it.)

neko2.png
They went as far as to copy her original patent, down to the numbering. The only thing they exchange in the text is "starr" (rigid) to "variabel" for the middle part.

She shows here how hers are flexible (as they have to be due to the movement you need when knitting with them):

(no subtitles for this video)

She files for a deletion of the Addi-patent and wins. The judgement reaches her shortly before Christmas.

The video has english subtitles, but I don't think you can download it with subtitles, so I won't bother uploading it.

Oh geez, I didn't know that about those needles. I don't knit as much anymore compared to crocheting, but I would imagine they make it easier.

Good for her for winning the lawsuit though

Geez, this is exactly why I don't like interacting with the fiber arts community online. Luckily most of the knitters/crocheters IRL are pretty normal and sane.

I also mentioned it in the consoomer thread, but there are so many people that like to buy yarn even though they don't have a project in mind because it is pretty and hoard it. I understand that sometimes you have to buy an extra skein of yarn just in case since matching dye lot is important and sometimes it requires a bit extra and you often accumulate collections of scrap yarn, but some of these yarn stashes I find online are insane and it is a regular past time flexing them like it is something to be proud of.
I also don't interact with textile people online because of the insanity and sjw shit lol.

Back when I did i remember being in a facebook group that was just full of boomers posting entire walk-in closets full of yarn, and it was just the shitty basic acrylic stuff you find at hobby lobby. They'd post full shopping carts talking about how there was a big sale going on and man... it was just disturbing. My yarn collection has never been larger than one of those plastic tote bins. Also, scraps that are too small for knitting or crocheting are great for embroidering, btw.

After a while you end up with more yarn than somebody could use even with a lifetime of crafting.
There's an acrynom for that: SABLE; Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy. Knitters brag about reaching that state because it isn't hoarding if it's yarn!

To reach that stash you need to own more yarn than could be used even if you were knit full-time (40 hours a week) for the rest of your life. A lot of knitters are upper middle class middle aged women so they have a lot of disposable income, so they ain't buying Red Heart Super Saver ($5 per skein, has its uses but is generally looked down on because it has a reputation for being harsh); they're buying hand-dyed merino/silk blends for $30 a skein. And accumulating that much stash, or aiming to.

The total shitlordiness of the Blocked magazine is fucking hilarious- it’s a middle-school burn book and I’m totally here for it. I hope it sticks around for at least a bit longer. The nest of vipers bullshit that’s taken over knitting/crochet needs to be called out and everyone needs to stop taking everything so bloody seriously.

I did lol when reading the takedown of the Knit Nottingham owner, that place is so fucking unwelcoming to everyone, not just men, and I wouldn’t mind but it only sells shit yarn anyway!

I was completely unaware of the Addi crasy drama, I nearly bought a set a while back. This is the sort of thing that the “community” needs to be working against, not fucking paying reparations for the audacity to produce orange yarn.

Finally figured out how to get the reddit posts. Seriously, so many memes glorifying hoarding and being a packrat.

stupid crochet memes.png stupid crochet memes 3.png

Also this one, which, confirms what I suspected about a lot of these people. Many of them don't really crochet, they just like talking about crocheting and consooming more.

Back in 2014-2015, I remember seeing that group on Meetup and considered going despite living really far away, I'm glad I didn't go after all!

Instead, I went to a much more local one but they kept cancelling sessions and I got fed up with them and gave up knitting in favour of cross stitching.

I used to hoard fabric back in the day cuz "it looks nice and I might use it". It was a grand occasion when I did use it but I've long let go of that way of thinking.

I've been moderating my cross stitch threads now but I need to have a stash of 310 DMC thread cuz a lot of my projects require it. At least I actually use it. >_>

What the hell good is a two day hiatus on buying craft stuff do? Come on! A two month hiatus would be a challenge for a lot of people, but I have a hard time believing that the majority of crafters buy something daily. Maybe I'm wrong and judging things by my own habits which is because I'm broke, but hot damn.

ETA: oh, I'm a tard, it's not even a hiatus. The dates are dates that don't exist. Even more of a WTF.

I legit don't understand the idea of hoarding yarn or craft items. If it's a regular store, they're always going to have it in stock and if not, you can just buy it online. I kinda understand if it was an indie brand but you really don't need 20 big skeins of sock yarn.

I also don't understand the strange snootiness of yarn types. Do you really need that fancy wool for a gift project when you know that person will throw it into the washer and and dryer? Just use some acrylic.

Oh also something else I saw during my research online were these videos about interchangeable knitting needles.

You see, interchangeable knitting needles are a tool that replaces essentially all of your circular needles with one kit. But then... they bought... multiple brands... These things cost at roughly 100 dollars each.

New Ravelry drama just dropped.

ED2807E2-8994-4F0C-99BA-B80DB76A94F3.png

The patterns in question are crochet patterns and have the oh-so-offensive word "hooker" in them.

The moderator's reason for reinstating the title? Because editing titles/removing patterns from the database fucks up other users' libraries and favorites.

Seems reasonable as a reason to reinstate the titles to me, but ever since Ravelry redesigned their site two years ago they can do nothing right in the eyes of far too many idiots.

These designers are happy to list their patterns on Ravelry, because they still have millions of users and get thousands of page views per day. But all the while they virtue signal about being "off Rav" designers who secretly hate the site and just love sites like PayHip, despite PayHip being more annoying for customers (you can download a purchase only four times from PayHip so don't lose your pdf!).

They have to say they hate Ravelry, because otherwise they get canceled, even though the number of people who left Ravelry after the redesign and are active online (at least on Twitter) number less than one thousand. I don't know about Instagram, because I don't spend time there.

They really do spread around innocent communities like polio, don't they?
Luckily you can always go offline and search for a knitting group irl, until they come for that too, and they will, eventually.

A lot of knitting groups shut down because of Covid. Some of them have restarted but not all of them, which is good IMO because Covid is still a thing. I wouldn't go to a group right now, but I'm a bit paranoid.

But in my experience with my IRL group there's a lot less ~drama~ going around. My group we just sit and talk about things that aren't politics or religion - even though we meet in a church. Even the Facebook group is not Terminally Online.

People seem to just behave better in real life in general, usually these people you see bitching online don't get out in the real life community that much.

Another way I avoid most of the drama is also just what you prefer to do like, in my case, making lace and working with thread, most of these people often don't have the patience for that kind of stuff.

I have also seen brands doing stuff like limited edition yarns and whatnot where you have to get it now or else it is never coming back. The thing is, most of those types of yarns are like novelty in nature that don't work well with most patterns unless the company puts out their own pattern for that yarn.
