OMG this is brilliant. Where’s the drama? I unfollowed loads of accounts after the last lot because I just couldnt bear the ongoing whining, but if there’s an active fight I’ll need to look.
Agree about the needing to be spoon fed - I see loads of whining about sizing, and was amused to see just how big the sizes they wanted were. Like ‘why haven’t you made this in a 60 inch chest?!?!?’ Type complaints. Brilliant. Casey had his internet privileges revoked and Rav is going down the shitter. Get woke go broke!
More details please!! What tags am I looking for on Instagram?

Same. I'm a tad disturbed that Kiwifarms has now condensed all of my hobbies on one webpage. If there were a baking thread I guess I'd never need to leave.

I left Ravelry when they deleted all the Trump stuff. I'm not someone who is going to go out and start knitting a MAGA hat but I didn't like politics being brought into fiber arts or the requirement that people need to recite the Shahadah (if there is a woke version of this is it "transwomen are women?") to be of good standing. I was really just there to see the Baltic states out knit everyone (seriously what the fuck, how are Estonians and Russians such good fucking knitters).

I follow a few knitting companies on instagram and that's it now.

I used to be quite active in the cross stitch community until I got so fucking bored with seeing the same swear words in basic font surrounded by florals getting billions of asspats. It’s not “subversive” when everyone’s doing it.
Swear words on their own I don’t mind, but it’s pieces with slogans like “carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man” and “no uterus no opinion” that I’m sick of.

Somehow I think these women would be less inclined to listen to "no penis no opinion" when it comes to men's issues.

Most of the drama is at #ravelryaccessibility

A key player is @ktb38 (on Twitter and Instagram) who was featured as a Human of Ravelry on the site’s blog just a few months ago. She’s the one who seems to have pissed Cassidy off the most - and he’s now getting his sister (whose Twitter history is now wiped, of course) to harass her on Twitter:

. B130EBF4-07DA-441B-BA64-33BDA3882834.jpeg

Plenty of speculation about what the fuck is going on, many seeming to think a divorce is coming up (after becoming a Trans Widow, surely not?!) and Cassidy’s trying to tank the site out of either spite or devaluation to reduce any divorce settlement

God I hate what this hobby has become. I would love to stitch and bitch and meet women my age I could be friends with and sit around and knit with, but most are insane SJWs.

At first I thought it'd stay in the knitting community, but no. I'm in a crochet Discord server and despite a no politics rule, they still decided to reee about BLM. It ended with a white woman who supported BLM telling a black woman, in short, sit down and shut up, because she said she felt BLM wasn't necessary.

So I guess it's safe to say the cancer has spread, and it sucks.

Is it powerleveling to say I was into jacobean needlework. There is no drama there, just old people trying to rediscover lost techniques.

I have a friend on facebook who does SCA (society for creative anachronism), and they're about historical reenactment of all kinds of eras with an emphasis on culture. This friend in particular does fiber spinning on a wheel. I've thought about seeing if there's a group close to me so I can talk to people about old craft techniques. But this friend is also a bit SJW-y so it makes me apprehensive about them being all like that.

Watch as they shit themselves trying to reconcile their fixation on women’s issues with their blind acceptance of anyone who claims to be a tranny. If trans women are women as they say, should said trans women be allowed an opinion on abortion?

From what I have heard about SCA in my country, they encourage trading sex for goods and/or services. I have several close friends who were not able to buy stuff because while they had the money, the vendor only wanted sex in exchange, and they didn't want to prostitute themselves. Not just women being propositioned by male vendors either...

SCA is a whole different kettle of dramatic fish.

That said, I can't bring any sources to the table to back this up so take this as you will.

I'd heard about similar happening in some European LARP/LRP game systems (incl 'ref fucking' for in-character gains) but always thought it was exaggerated/made up by hopeful refs.

It seems that nerds can't have nice things, probably because of nerd culture.

Idly wondering if there’s been any more drama since Casey had his email privileges revoked? Are they still married (run, girl, run....)
Anyone got any new drama?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks curse words with floral is basic bitch stuff. I was in a Discord for cross stitchers and it seemed a majority of people liked that sort of thing, I was the only one who said "I don't like that sort of thing".

The server had it's occasional cringe moments but they can be summarised by "They use SJW terms" like when someone said "Ladies, gentlemen and enbies" That's when I knew I had to get out. I don't know if I should say the server name because if they find this, they might know who I am. I'm glad that I left, if a community is majority left with no tolerance to the right, don't join it even if you're a Democrat because you're still a target for destruction.

I just do 8-bit sprite cross stitching to use up as much of the thread I have left so I can have room to buy threads for new, big projects.

Rate me late, but I had to ask—is swatting such a problem among women? I always assumed it was more of a guy thing.

And lol could you imagine being swatted by some sperg in your online knitting circle? This is why people need to get the fuck off the Internet and meet in real life like the good old days.

New drama developing.

This was released featuring a couple of cancelled designers/dyers:

An online publication targeting specific BBIMP makers in the knitting community is slated to go live in the coming days. As troubling or offensive as you may find it if you have the misfortune of coming across the piece, I would encourage you NOT to tag or DM the targeted individuals, who are very likely fully aware of what is going on. There is no need to cause additional harm. Just a reminder that when they say they “just want to get back to knitting” or bring “Unity” this is what they are actually supporting.

Reaction of one person mentioned in that magazine:

Hey!

I’d like to preface things by saying that this will be the one and ONLY time that I will be addressing this situation. The LBYC Team is aware that there is an online publication being released in the next few days that targets several BBIMP makers in our community. We are aware of the unflattering depictions of Adella and the LolaBean logo that you have all come to know.

Many people have already reached out asking if there is anything that they can do in order to support and protect our peace. There is absolutely something that you all can do. Before we proceed, please understand that we can only speak for ourselves and not anybody else that happens to be mentioned in this publication. What we are asking you to do is….

NOTHING.

Please do not engage.

Please do not tag us.

Please do not send us any DM’s with screenshots or snippets of anything that was published.

Please refrain from sending us any messages, emails, etc to discuss any of the content in the publication.

Please resist the urge to share any sympathetic words of support or encouragement in what you may perceive as a challenging time that we may be going through.

Should you fail to respect our wishes and send us correspondence related to this matter anyway, please know that you will be blocked without hesitation. This goes for the @lolabeanyarnco account, my personal account and @iam_jimmythemodel.

If we’re going to be honest, situations like this aren’t new and happen EVERY single day. IF you are not supporting BBIMP every day, please don’t pop up when you feel that a particular situation is especially egregious. It doesn’t help and comes across as performative and not genuine.

The fact that this publication is coming as we move into Black History Month is not lost on us. Rather than engage these vile beings, use that energy to promote, support and purchase from the MANY talented BBIMP makers in this community.

Thank you,

LBYC Team

Geez, this is exactly why I don't like interacting with the fiber arts community online. Luckily most of the knitters/crocheters IRL are pretty normal and sane.

I also mentioned it in the consoomer thread, but there are so many people that like to buy yarn even though they don't have a project in mind because it is pretty and hoard it. I understand that sometimes you have to buy an extra skein of yarn just in case since matching dye lot is important and sometimes it requires a bit extra and you often accumulate collections of scrap yarn, but some of these yarn stashes I find online are insane and it is a regular past time flexing them like it is something to be proud of.

After a while you end up with more yarn than somebody could use even with a lifetime of crafting.

Yeah, you see it a lot at estate sales. These old ladies who have been hoarding yarn for decades end up dying and their families end up needing to get rid of it and sell it for dirt cheap. Of course, younger yarn crafters then swoop down to get the yarn and add it to their growing hoard and the cycle continues. Hoarding has always been a problem with the hobby. Every time I go on the crochet reddit, I find at least one or two pictures of people showing off their stash.
