Very few if any wreckers are going to turn down the scale of work they are facing. Fat chance they are going to turn down that kind of pay day.

The dissonance is probably held up by extremely high costs of living in urban centres. In terms of living standards & social status within their circles they effectively are proles until they work their way up for a few years, I think Reddit commies/twitter socialists are the bottom tier of the urban hive hierarchy, shitting on outsiders to feel better on themselves. They wouldn't need to develop cognitive dissonance unless they considered in some depth the world outside their bubble. Actual wealthy urban elites probably write passive-aggressive LinkedIn posts or get PR firms/journoscum to do the talking for them.

The mounties are probably being so skittish because they might lose if they get into a brawl. US cops would have armored vehicles and tear gas launchers and everything. This is just two dozen guys in a line formation who don't even have batons out.

IIRC they had to find a company all the way from Calgary, because nearby companies (ex from Lethbridge) wouldn't comply.
