I saw a few trucks carrying stuff that looked like it was meant to be left behind if necessary. Like a Shitty old boat, for instance. There's no reason anyone is going to pay to drag a beat up old boat across the country, there's already tons of them laying all over the place in Ontario.

We have been in dispute over territory in the Polar Region that is supposed to be oil rich. Also, northern shipping lanes that are getting more traffic as the polar ice recedes. I highly doubt it's relevant, though.

I remember when there first started to be a lot of them on the road here (20ish years ago), my friends and family weren't enthused, but as they got to know a few that changed. Occasionally I'll hear some slurs, but for the most part the truckers I know seem okay with them now.

That's not true at all. Maybe it is in their written policy, but in practice it does not happen. Food banks are different, but soup kitchens have a very low barrier to entry.

Most truckers with jobs have left the protest as well as there 9-5er allies.

They spent the evening telling people not to cuss on voice chat, finding rides for lot lizards, being trolled by Reddit and coming to the agreement among themselves to obey the noise laws at 11pm. Wait, I forgot the several repetitions of the lords prayer.

Today the remaining unemployed people will try to stage a walk in maskless protest in stores while the PM address the country this morning.

I can tell it failed by how many people were salty by pointing out the obvious failures.

I may know the one you're talking about. "SINK ALL MANDATES" painted on the side, right? You may be right to some extent in terms of leaving more bullshit around for jannies to clean up, but I think the main motivation is probably more like a parade float. Many of the truckers had something like a parade float on a flatbed, and a boat with "SINK ALL MANDATES" spraypainted on the side is weird enough to be more memorable than another general "FUCK TRUDEAU" sign. At least I remembered it lol
 
Yeah all the people who took a week to drive out there are just going home after 2 days, sure. The only people who are leaving are the ones who live in Ontario/Quebec already.

What? I can't confirm anything else but they definitely didn't obey noise ordinances. The honking, music and fireworks were alive and well at midnight. Just check any live stream archive. So I'm going to guess the rest of what you said is utter made up bullshit as well.

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier, but apparently a big chunk of the convoy was (is still? can't find confirmation) being blocked from entering the city yesterday:



They were also being prevented from leaving, and were having troubles even getting food:

Oh please, there's a lot of barriers to that happening anytime soon. First you develop a suitable AI to pilot the vehicle. Then you have to make the investment in the vehicles profitable for companies to actually adopt. Then you have a fucking nightmare of legislation and policies to circumnavigate; Who takes legal liability for any sort of incident? Developers of the AI? The company? The fallible humans surrounding it? How is the vehicle, load etc recovered in the event of an incident or it just gets lost or stuck? Who is responsible for the maintenance of the vehicle? Who does the fucking pre-start checks or is intimately aware of the handling of the vehicle and potential problems? Who re-fuels the fucking thing once its on the road? Who's responsible for the consignment notes and other documentation exchanged with the delivery locations?

There's probably plenty of things im missing. I'm not saying these problems are insurmountable, but its going to take a lot of time and effort to suss this all out. We will continue to need drivers for the foreseeable future.

The truckers I talk to always cite hazmat as the biggest obstacle. You really want a computer program hauling around thousands of gallons of toxic sludge or explosives completely completely unguarded or untended?

Never mind that. Road crossings. Until Tesla buys all the railroads in North America, he's not going to be able to integrate the truck AI and the train AI to ensure no crashes happen at a rail crossing.

I also saw a few other things. Maybe they just tossed it on to symbolically represent a load, but I saw a beat up portable building. There's no reason to drag those to Ontario, they're all over the place.

The very first thing I saw was a piece of old heavy equipment. Why would you waste the fuel to drag that down here? Then I thought they are just scrapping it or something then go to the protest after, but there's scrap dealers all over between Victoria and Ottawa. Then I saw the boat and that's what made me consider it may be like what they did during Oka to blockade the roads. They had loads of logs and everything.
