Ralph in an unwinnable situation.
  • Eats expensive food. Mocked for getting ripped off
  • Eats street food. Mocked for being cheap
  • Goes sight seeing. Mocked for getting exhausted
  • Stays in. Mocked for not enjoying the unfamiliar sights
  • Posts too often. Mocked for focusing on social media and not his vacation
  • Posts too little. Mocked for hiding that the trip isn't as amazing as promised
  • Tries to enjoy the local culture. Gets his face stomped in and ends up hospitalized.

Ralphs your typical american, not all of us have friends in every village from here to the sudan speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom and can blend in and disappear. Ralph gets lost in his own house
 
It's hilarious to me that if Ralph only listened to the audience of "trads" and racists he grifts off of, he'd have avoided this situation entirely. If you're anywhere in Europe, it's really simple. Don't interact with groups of young men who look like they're looking for someone to assault (chavs or white trash) don't interact with minorities in general and don't interact with gypsies. If they force you into an interaction, be cordial, polite and leave the situation immediately. Don't fly into a pig rage and feel like you must defend your honor if they start taunting you, because they're trying to force you into a fight with them.

Don't believe a word of it without video evidence. He had a one on one with someone and lost and now it's him fighting the whole of Portugal.

He got so use to running his mouth he forgot he wasn't behind a microphone.
When they mug someone they want the money not to hand out a beating.

He's a tourist so the police would actually care but I feel like he's going to make sure that they never hear of this.

Odd how he kept a hold of his phone the most valuable thing he had on him and the thing they would want first.

This story is so full of holes. Odd how andy a coke head was able to make 8+ trips and not have anything happen to him. Watch the story get more and more like Ralph was John wick when it happened.
 
My experience in Iberia was petty theft and small property crimes were rampant and pretty much go unpunished. Tourists are targeted especially hard, making it important to try and blend in when travelling.

Violence however, is treated a lot differently and receives a much harsher police response and jail sentence, so the criminals tried to not cross that line to prevent unwanted attention.

It's unlikely he was attacked completely unprovoked. The pickpocket crews in Europe are well organized and often backed by organized crime, with 'muscle' who will deal with any tourists that press them on trying to get their shit back. Ralph no doubt sticks out in Lisbon like a sore gunt, the obesity, wigger clothes/shoes, walking style, or constantly looking at google maps app clearly give him away as a clueless american.

Alternatively, I could see gunt in an angry drunk mood and spouting out some bullshit to the wrong people, or talking shit about someone's girlfriend while drunk. I used to have a friend that would always start chatting up couples at bars, then start saying weird shit to the girls and almost get us all in a fight, Ralph seems like this type.
