I don't know why, but majority doesn't mean what its supposed to mean with it comes to this senate.

Republicans- 50
Democrats- 48
Independent- 2

I thought Dems held the majority leader position because McConnell gave it to them in a deal.
Because the two Independents caucus with the Democrats and the Democrats hold the tiebreaker with the VP.

Honestly, unless Biden tries nominating the most hardcore lefty communist who proudly shows open contempt for the Constitution (which isn't exactly outside the realm of possibility), there isn't much reason for Republicans to try to stall the nomination or fight too hard against it. It's a lefty replacing a lefty, and any strong opposition could just make them look bad and be used as ammo against them in the midterms. They either just have to not do much at all, let the nomination go through and keep on keeping on, or even give a few needless Yay votes, not turn it into a shitshow like it was with Kavanaugh and talk about how much they're for bipartisanship, unlike the Democrats.

I missed this, it was linked in a reply as part of that IsaiahLCarter thread. Who knew the Afghanistan pull and pray method was now official Biden Admin policy?
Disgraceful. To pile on top of that, we still have people left in Afghanistan and limp dicked Kirby is all but admitting we have to rely on the Taliban to save them.

I'd like to agree with you because that would be the most sensical thing and assumes an equal interest in all factions of government. But it's not accurate, mainly because you are placing equal weight. let me explain.

You make a handful of points.

  1. Would make them look bad
  2. Could be used in midterms
  3. Shouldn't be like Kavanaugh
  4. Woo bipartisanship

Here's the problem with each of these.

  1. In general, the left -does not care- about SCOTUS nominations. Even with a ton of, concocted, support behind Ginsburg... it barely budged the needle of Left-wing enthusiasm. I could break it down a fair bit but will summarize as "law is dry, boring, and really hard to get young people invested in.
  2. The above partially covers this, but let me note that in addition, the Right tends to very much focus on SCOTUS nominations. Specifically, it tends to be a pretty big energizer among the older populace. An older populace who may otherwise be hesitant to vote given lower turnout in midterm elections. Also, if carried over into 2024, a good way to overcome older voter hesitation for Trump himself.
  3. Yes, I agree. But the thing is... it doesn't need to be. Lots of procedural grounds or quiet ways to try to nuke the nominee. See the Garland stuff. This isn't an argument against resisting the nominee, just a clarification of the things to avoid while doing it.
  4. The mood has soured on Biden hard. Frankly, I think trying to go "woo bipartisanship" in the federal level congress might actually be a detriment at this time. Also, neither sides base really values it, and independents will only consider it generally when viewing one side or the other as a unifier.

Too be honest the pedophiles aren't even hiding themselves anymore thanks to the left. In my own gaming circles I've encountered a few and everyone in the group let them know they weren't welcome, let alone a lot of youtubers have have recently been exposed. That's without the whole recent school district issues in modern year. Those disgusting fuckers are everywhere so the rise of calling attention to them isn't too surprising when they are coming out and becoming more visible day by day.

My personal belief is many on the left who defend it have family members or friends who are pedophiles so they've taken to "defending it." instead of realizing you don't defend anyone like that regardless of ties.

Usually I'd agree with that sentiment, from personal experience it's often a sign of a guilty consciousness. IE: Gays that hate other gays, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Metokur had a similar run with pedophiles just like me and is starting to hate them more and more and bringing them to the forefront of my own mind let alone an internet celebrity let's not even mention the whole schooling issue of current year. Who knows someone he knows might have been personally effected which has left a permanent "hate-stain" in his mind.

With how things currently are I'm willing to give benefit to the doubt or suspicions .

I didn't feel like he went overboard because he kept them to their own videos, and honestly the pedos he singled out were real pieces of work.

IIRC one was a dude who used "I can't have molested her, I can only get errect when covered in shit" as a defence. Then he took a video of him masturbating with his turd as evidence.

And the other was actively working at an elementary school and using Todd Nickerson the "Virtuous Pedophile" as an excuse. Claimed nobody had the right to criticize him working at a school or to question how he got employed there or if anyone knew he was a pedophile, because he's a virtuous pedophile and he's getting help. (The answer was he snuck in as a volunteer and bypassed the background check, which I'd call a legitimate problem).

I later learned from Metokur's thread that part of why it triggered him so bad is he actually cares about kids and wanted to be a teacher of some sort. Appearently he quit the program when he saw how fucked up the school system actually was, but I'd say that's justification enough.

He may have quit his training partway through, and teacher might not be much of a specialization, but I think "Dude who wanted to help kids being triggered that kids are getting hurt" is as natural as any trained professional being able to sperg over their area of expertise.

I think that the key problem is that pedos have actual positions of power and/or access, as opposed to before when they were jumped the moment one appeared. This couldn’t have happened in a vacuum, someone had to be helping them out, but we don’t know who. I believe that is the terrifying part of all of this: We don’t have a lock on the source of the problem, but we know it involves the rich elites and the media.

They might as well fight it. The GOP will never have another uncontested SCOTUS appointment. Every single nominee for the rest of time will be accused by the media of racism, sexism, rape, murder, and any other crime against humanity they can come up with. There's absolutely zero benefit in playing ball with the left right now. They're not going to go easy on you later if you go easy on them now. If anything, it will be used as a weapon against you.

I think this is excessively pessimist. Did you not notice that the best they could do when trying to smear Barrett during her confirmation was her position on abortion and petulant whining that someone as stunning and brave as RBG deserved to be replaced by a liberal? It wasn't even in the same stratosphere as the Kavanaugh confirmation.
They only do the brazen mudslinging when they think it will work, and I think burned a lot of bridges by going too far with the invented rape accusation.

Like I said, I think at most, the Republicans just don't have to fight much at all. Worst case scenario, Biden's pick gets through with Harris casting the tie breaking vote, and the Court layout remains exactly the same. Republicans can go on about how even though they didn't vote to confirm the nominee, they didn't obstruct it like the Democrats did in recent history. Best case scenario, Manchin or Sinema refuses to vote to confirm the nominee, and Republicans again just have to do nothing, and point out how Biden the Great Unifier can't even get his own party to approve any of his major legislation or SCOTUS pick.
I'm willing to concede that there isn't really any reason for Republicans to play nice and vote to confirm the nominee because yeah, it's not like it'll get them any real goodwill from the Left, but I still think there's no real reason for them to strongly oppose the nominee. Just let the Democrats potentially sink or swim on their own.

The military revenge porn thing is old news. There was a huge wave of it in 2008-2014, but the vast majority of it was dealt with within the branches themselves. Even then, most of it wasn't "revenge" porn as most people would define it.

I made friends with an intel guy on a deployment and he explained to me what was happening. If you're on a government computer with military credentials, military intelligence agencies can have access to whatever you're doing and any messages you're sending. Most, but not all, military women are sexualized to a dangerous degree, and the staggering male to female ratio causes many of those women to become gigantic whores. These women deploy, and on deployment, living quarters are segregated by gender. When all these girls get together in a dirty hooch, they start taking naked pictures of each other so they can send them off to the 4 or 5 guys they're fucking at any given time. They plug their camera (phones now) into a government laptop with their military credentials and use their government email address to send amateur porn out to all their fuck boys. Whatever intel group is controlling those computers don't look at every message, but there is a secret checklist of things that if it applies to an outgoing message, they must check it for operational security. One of those stipulations is any message greater than 2mb (at the time) had to be checked, which included almost every single picture sent. These 19-22 year old kids were forced by policy to see every nude sent from every government email address in their command, and of course, they started stockpiling terabytes worth of amateur nudes. Most of it was kept secret for a while and only shared among friends, but eventually some big brain started a facebook group or some other internet group where all these intel guys started dumping all the porn they had to filter through. A LOT of important women got caught up in the whole ordeal, so it was a major major issue for a few years within service. I think there was nudes going around from a brigadier general, so that's probably why the government took such an aggressive approach to it.

@Absolutego They couldn't find enough dirt on Barret to make it a spectacle. Instead, her affirmation is what changed court packing from a political joke to a real policy goal for democrats. I honestly think that's more egregious to a free people than the rape debacle with Kavanaugh. Even then, only 3 democrats voted to approve her, and one of them was Manchin.

I caucus with your mom but I still don't care what she wants on the pizza when I'm done.

Is there any chance that Manchin just stonewalls any nominee? Answering for a confirmation vote on a pro-abortion Supreme Court justice seems like an angle of attack that could get him in trouble with his constituents.
yeah I'm highly amateur at this sort of thing, but if the stars could ever align for all the RINOs not playing along and Machin and whatsherface breaking ranks out of sheer cussedness this is probably exactly the most they _could_ align
they probably haven't, but this is the least impossible

Sorry, but after Kavanaugh, I gotta agree with @ForTheHoard here.

The Kavanaugh hearings were an absolute trainwreck, between protests and trotting out that looney blonde who shouldn't have even been given the time of day. To say nothing of panties-sniffing ambulance chaser Avenatti trying to gin up ANOTHER accusation.

There is no point in negotiating with them.

You know, if the court term doesn't end until October, I can really see the Senate just... faffing about for 3 months and never getting a nomination out of committee. By that point, who is going to want to go down in history as a Senator that voted to confirm a Biden nominee?

The tinfoil explanation for why the Dems didn't pitch a fit with Barrett was that they had assurances that she'd pussy out on anything that actually might thwart the ongoing leftist revolution.

The realistic reason... she's a woman with kids, and had too good a resume. Basically sucked the air out of the room for good attacks.

I understand and share your annoyance with retards who can't manage basic paperwork but this doesn't fix the problem.

first of all income based repayment is based... on your income. so you're locked in to poverty.

second of all your credit score is now thoroughly fucked because of your debt to income ratio.

so all this process does is incentivize total loser behavior.
As does student loan forgiveness. We're literally on the same page.

Didn't they test out the Postmodernist "lets redefine words so she's a retroactive bigot" thing with her? That was interesting, at the very least.

IBR plans have fixed percentages, and its based on discretionary income.

Yep. And you can still pay any goddamn amount you choose each month even if your IBR results in zero dollars owed per month that year. Again, willfully stupid and obfuscating NPCs are not even caring to take initiative and expect the rest of us to unburden them Like, nah, fuck off. Fill out an IBR.

In reality, pomo goalpost moving isn't actually persuasive to normal people directly. LatinX is proof of it failing, as does the motte and bailey of racism which we see with declining approval of BLM. What it does do is influence policy where legalese is used. HR sexual harassment seminars are an example of redefining words to the point where interacting with a woman at all is considered grounds for sexual harassment.

San Jose is working on a gun insurance tax lol, they will never stop though I don't know if its a sign that California knows that its AWB's days are numbered and will still fuck with the 2nd amendment crowd because why not.
