Disney Makes Changes to ‘Snow White’ After Facing Backlash

Disney is expected to make some major changes to its oldest princess.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was one of the first major motion films produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and its popularity is still high today. After 85 years, the film is getting a live-action remake, but we shouldn’t expect the plot to be the same.
The beautiful and kindhearted princess Snow White charms every creature in the kingdom except one — her jealous stepmother, the Queen. When the Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White is the fairest one of all, she must flee into the forest, where she befriends the lovable seven dwarfs — Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. But when the Queen tricks Snow White with an enchanted apple, only the magic of true love’s kiss can save her!
Rachel Zegler, who has been cast as Snow White in the remake, shared in a recent interview with Buzzfeed that Disney is looking to make the princess “stronger.”

“There’s not much I can say about it besides the fact that Snow White has constantly been criticized,” Zegler said. “Even though she’s the original Disney princess and we love her so much, [she’s been] criticized for existing solely for a prince, existing solely to be rescued.
“And I think that our director, Marc Webb, and everyone who’s working on this film has really taken her narrative and turned it into something that’s a lot stronger and I’m very, very excited to be able to bring that to life.“
Zegler is currently trending for her starring role in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021), which was just recently released. She will join Gal Gadot (Evil Queen) for the movie that is expected to be released in 2023.

While we can expect some of the same Disney magic to be involved in the film, it seems the character development for Snow White will be much different this time around compared to the original.

Man, they found a real ugly bitch to play her. I'm almost impressed.

It's based on a fairy tale from the 1800's, what the fuck are people expecting from it? If you want strong wahmen or any kind of deep characterization, look elsewhere, not old bedtime stories. Bring back Kim Possible or something

These people are fucking delusional. They really think women hundreds of years ago were assmad about men serving and protecting them from a clearly violent world. "Why can't I go out hunting and fighting?! This is repression!"

The modern progressive can't envision a world without the modernity we live in. They can't even admit that the first feminists were the wives/daughters of bankers and lawyers asking why they can't do what their fathers do; not the daughters/wives of blacksmiths, farmers, ditch-diggers, etc.

Thank God, the title implied they were actually editing the original 1937 film to make it more woke.

What the fuck is this? Snow White is literally the "fairest of them all", meaning she's the most pretty person alive on the whole planet, it's the whole impetus of the plot. This woman isn't ugly, but she's not pretty either, they really couldn't have found someone else? Did they pick her on purpose to add a sexism spin when the movie bombs & faces criticism?

Yep. Feminism has always been about upper class women because the lower class women always worked. For people who were rich enough, their wives not having to work was a status symbol.

Of course, few people want a life without the meaning that an occupation or a calling can provide... but still, complaining how you're being oppressed because you can't work your fingers to the bone like a man is, on some level, a little nutty.

You'll notice Western feminists tend to be obsessed with the 50s in America and the Victorian era in Britain... two time periods where upper class women were both pampered and miserably jobless. Naturally, they don't identify with the lower class women in those eras. Because even in complaining about how oppressed they are, modern women are making sure you know they're upper class!

Why haven't there been more movies about actually powerful women through history? What about Joan of Arc? It's a story of a female knight leading her people to victory from an incoming threat only to be betrayed by the men & women she saved, it's the perfect movie for the woke-scold agenda.

Telling the stories of real heroic women doesn't have the same "fuck you, dad" zest as taking a beloved cultural icon and inserting incongruous modern politics into it.

Will the Dwarf's all be men?

Doc surely will be a woman of colour.

Dopey is ableist and so will be out. If kept, possible the only straight white male dwarf.

Sneezy will need a face mask.

One will at least be non-binary.

Snow White will surely come in and innovate their entire business with her keen intellect and eye for business.

The Dwarfs shouldn't be minors, they need a greener more sustainable business. Even though they were mining diamonds, mining has connotations with fossil fuels and diamonds are a stereotypical female desired gem.

The prince will be some soy.

Is Dwarf offensive? Maybe they need to do.

Too religious, obviously. Plus this.
