I think from their mindset gamergate and the rise of trump occured roughly the same time ergo the two events are linked because their worldview is entirely through the lens of internet culture. They saw the unfufilled promise of the Obama years rot into the rise of the right as desperation kicked in and as humans are want to do tried to contextualize it into what they knew about. The truth is nobody with half a brain gives a shit about gamergate after 2015 and frankly if you think it's relavent at all irl you need to log off twitter and never come back.
This is why we need the occasional war so that people can just understand there's a lot worse in the world than just someone saying your hot take is shitty on Twitter, and that no, you do not have PTSD because someone saw a picture of you and noticed you were fat.

If one wanted to be technical, you had at least one murder from GamerGate but then again that was more on some guy killing his dad for some shit that may not even be related to vidya. Seeing the image being from 2014, one can only wonder:

Why are these people so vague? They constantly repeat abstractions and platitudes that mean absolutely nothing, and are concerned with their enemies' innermost thoughts as opposed to their actions. Always going on about how they will "change the system for the better" while saying nothing about how they will do it. They remind me of the nobles from A Midsummer Night's dream.

I know GamerGate is pure tism of the culture wars that it left its mark and all but these people sound like the sort that deserve the phrase "go outside and touch grass" as one of them is showing. Like yeah changing systems can help but as a means to prevent GamerGate or another GamerGate so you don't get right wingers? GG has been attributed to anything and everything by shitty hack writers who are angry that the channer nerds just didn't roll over and die in face of their righteous crusade of white knightery.
