My Ruth and Eva are kicking ass in V with the M1 Garand assault class!

I am getting better, but I cannot snipe for shit. Any Recon tips?

I usually play as assault, but a few tips for recon:

Your bullets are affected by gravity, they will drop with distance and take time to reach targets at longer ranges. Play around on the test range area to get a feel for how each rifle shoots at varying distances and how much you need to adjust your aim to compensate.

During play against live targets try to gauge how much you need to aim ahead of a moving target so your bullet will land and not fire too far behind or ahead. Each round fired is a tracer, so it will be easy to see the trajectory of each bullet fired and how to adjust for the next shot.

Whenever possible try to be prone when sniping, it will increase your accuracy, stability and you present as a smaller target. Your scope creates a glint that other players can see that reveals your position, so be aware that you are not invisible.

As far as zeroing goes, certain rifles have a 4th perk specialization that allows for zeroing your rifle when using scopes (this does not work with iron sights). Semi auto rifles do not have this specialization.

To adjust zero use the key or button you use for changing firing modes on your weapons. The current zero distance will be displayed by your ammo counter. You can cycle through it as needed to adjust your zero.

To know how far away your target it, use your spotting scope tool, it will display the exact range your target is away from you. So switch to the zero distance that closest matches the actual target distance. You will still have to adjust for gravity and target movement, but much less so.

essentially:
> shoot bullet
> compare impact to where you were aiming
> aim higher to compensate for drop

So that's what the binoculars are for! I'll try that strategy when I get back on Battlefield. I assume it's universal on all Battlefields.

I've been back and forth with assault and medic for the automatic fire. I'm loving Assault so far as it's the most versatile of the four classes. Support, I noticed the LMGs are slower and less lethal than assault rifles.

Suppression fire I guess it's to draw your enemy away while somebody else takes aim.

It may seem like all of this should be common sense. But, I'm just getting back into Battlefield.

I've noticed I'm getting better with aim and class knowledge. But, I feel like V has horrible spawning. I often get killed from left, right and behind.

Or maybe I'm too used to CoD's three lane map design.

No, that game was more flawed than the likes of BF4 and BF1, having terrible spawns is just one of those flaws.

It can still be an enjoyable experience since it's still a Battlefield game, but it could've been a much better game.

I'm scared to get back to BF1 given my performance with V. I don't remember my 1 experience being that bad.

Aside from the female soldiers and free DLC, it feels lesser than BF1. Almost like I'm playing a beta.

You didn't miss much from the free DLC outside of the Pacific content, and even then they fucked up by dramatically changing the time to kill in the middle of that content (right before Wake Island released, a beloved classic got overshadowed by DICE's incompetence).

After they "fixed" the TTK (mostly reverting to the old one except for requiring an extra bullet, I guess they were pissy about the backlash), they abandoned the game and Battlefront II (even though that one turned itself around and became more popular than ever), which left me feeling soured about them and their future games.

I honestly prefer having map packs, because at least then they're obligated to support their games.

battlefield having terrible spawns is nothing new, that goes all the way back to bf3 (maybe even bc2 and earlier but it was noticeable back then due to the modes and how they were played)

the idea of suppression is to simulate people taking cover when shot, because usually they can't just respawn. since it's a game you have to force them to do it someway else, like impairing them visually so they can't just return fire nilly-willy and then take cover as the best choice. not a bad idea in general just needed some polish, bf3 went a bit overboard with it which gave it a bad reputation (iirc it worked on every bullet, so even affected pistol duels etc).
same with 3d spotting which is supposed to help your team since not everyone is in voicechat listening to callouts, problem is you never sit in voice with 32 people, so it should've been limited to squad only (or more realistically your proximity at the time since no one would be ever to shout across the whole battlefield, but that's harder to implement, takes more resources and in the end your squad is assumed to stay together anyway).

hardline and titanfall had map packs...

and I wouldn't really call battlefront II abandoned, every dice game has a shelf live of exactly two years and then you're supposed to buy the next one, so it was all according to plan. people have a warped perception from bf4 where EA actually had to put in effort that one time because dice almost killed the franchise with their incompetence, and in bfront's II case nuwars nosedived thanks to disney so no point doing a sequel to that.

I have Battlefront 2 as well. I was against it initially because of the microtransactions. But, I'm hearing good things about it.

I can tell that they've gotten enough backlash with V to where they changed course shortly after launch. Live service games require regular maintenance and updates. You can't just drop it after a couple years.

The only good thing about EAfront 2 is the co-op mode. It's the best way to level up the classes and heroes faster.
Can confirm, this is the only fun mode in that game.

I feel the same way about BF that I do about CoD. My favourite CoD is Infinite Warfare because of the gritty sci fi shit. I loved the campaign and the cool sci fi weapons and the space ships blowing up.

My favourite BF is still 2142 for Titan mode. I love the dynamic shit that goes on between players as they assault or defend the Titan. I would've loved a sequel that took that dynamic to space with Titan mode about defending or attacking capital ships with fighters and boarding parties. Like a more advanced version of what we got with Battlefront 2.

However I am clearly not the target audience for either CoD or Battlefield. I am never getting the 2142 sequel I want. I love that 2042 has bot support. But it's still the generic military stuff I find so boring in BF and CoD. I just want my triple A high fidelity large scale sci fi shooter ffs.

Actually Angels Fall First kinda scratches that itch. Never mind.

How do you feel about Titanfall? Or other sci Fi shooters?

you're a few years too late, it was great while it was alive:

now imagine it with EA's money and frostbite and all you get is... eafront (or worse, naval strike).

Yeah I fucking love Titanfall and I'm still bitter Respawn are ignoring it for Apex zoomers. That is a complete reverse on everything I want from both gameplay, visual and universe standpoints. Also I loved Halo till 343 started shitting it up. Planetside 2 is somehow incredibly boring and I'm impressed at how they pulled that off. Every sci fi shooter I can think of is either shit or was ruined at some point.

Damn son that looks fucking cool. And also dead. Like all my favourite multiplayer games.

@Relic 31 @Vault Boy

Thanks for the tips on Battlefield sniping!

I now make it a habit to pull out my binoculars before sniping and adjust accordingly. When I unlocked a new sniper, the zeroing distancing wasn't working. I assume that's a specialization that you have to grind for.

No matter. I am managing to hit shots better around the <150 m ranges. Longer shots are trickier. It is quite satisfying to have a sniper shot confirm a kill in Battlefield. There's more work and science with each shot.

At the very least, spotting enemies can help the team. I've unlocked the Flare Gun, but haven't swapped it out yet. I'm still getting used to calculating distances.

I miss that mod so much. Boarding actions were the most atmospheric thing ever, and there's never been quite anything else like that in terms of other games' map design. You would fly or crash-land your way from outer space directly into the enemy capital ship or space station's cavernous hangar/flight deck, which had these panoramic views of the space outside. Sometimes there would be an intense 32-man firefight awaiting you on the hangar deck, with everyone on both teams chucking grenades everywhere and parking dropships in the hangar to use as mobile MG pillboxes and spawnpoints until they got ion cannon'ed to flaming scrap. Other times, there would just be some desultory sniping and skirmishing from a handful of guys, with everyone else busy dogfighting in space, so you could sneak off and infiltrate deep into the bowels of the ship or station and solo capture subsystems and spawnpoints to singlehandedly turn the tide of the battle.

In 2142, the Titan boarding almost always turned into a huge slog due to the choke points and bottlenecks, and in Angels Fall First, when you board enemy ships, it just teleports you into the corridor by the airlock.

I have replayed Battlefield 1 again.

Behemoths are still the biggest bullshit if their users know what to do and games too close

That's on my list to replay after I get the hang of V.

What's your platform? I ask because I want to see if it's still decently populated.
No. If you want to fire a bullet far, you have to aim higher to compensate for the bullet drop. Zeroing will just adjust your scope so that you physically aim at the same place, but the gun is aimed up a bit higher to simulate you aiming higher.
Oh, and thanks to you as well. Aiming slightly above has yielded better results compared to "leading" left or right. I guess I need more practice.
