I am not sure MacDonald should be saying this. It seems like a tacit admission that ANN's health insurance is overpriced, their editors are underpaid, or both.

But if there's anything Cenk Uyger taught us, it's that left leaning media doesn't practice what they preach when it comes to their own business operations.

I hope he gets uncomfortable questions regarding this.

ANN is a pathetic batch of spergs whose lives are disasters, not some great institution that wields power. Bertschy was barely involved in this bullshit and I had to look him up to even remember who the fuck he was other than some other ANN maggot.
 
It's been almost 3 1/2 days now since the news broke and only these videos show up. The one that is 29 minutes is a news show and they only mention him for a little over a minute before they move on

I suspect most of the "Youtube Shoutmen" that Zac often railed against on Twitter have enough tact not to eulogize Zac if they don't have that much nice to say about him and the ones that were only Animegate-adjacent might not be aware of his death or even who he was.

I'm probably going to repeat myself and the words of fellow farmers before me, and while you do have a point in how they are a bunch of pathetic spergs whose news source is essentially a glorified frathouse clubhouse who are only here because there's no competition, as an anime fan, I'm going to take to the stand and point out that for about two decades, they had the power to use their news source and organization to positively promote not just the industry, but the community, and help showcase that no, not everyone is a bunch of insane maniacs who just really like Japanese animation. Instead, not only do they just play fan pecking order and ineffectually just laze about with nostalgic reminiscing and smarmy snark filled bullshit, but have a pathetic selfish agenda as well regarding "taste" and "direction of the anime industry".

For near twenty some years, instead, they have kept on doing their dumb selfish shit like the manchildren they are and in the end, have shown they have no intention to show how nor define how Japanese animation is art. Show how using graphic novels in schools to help reading? Show how Japanese animation has brought upon a new interest in animation and comics elsewhere? Show how Japanese animation along with the rise of adult US animation helped to fight off the dearth of sequential media against the FCC's bullshit? Show how Japanese animation have further inspired kids and artists to want to draw and write? Nah, son, we're going to belittle those "artists" because "only Japan can make anime and manga" and then we're going be a bunch of smartasses to invite a bunch of slimy angry losers to show how "nerd cred" we are. Then we're going slander a known voice actor's name and make black pieces on him because our friend notorious for being a rapist at anime conventions deserves our protection like the cronies we are.

I have nothing against you AnOminous. Your life doesn't include these shitbags outside of the Farms and WW, and is all the richer for it. I thought that was a very outmoded way of thinking that wasn't taken very seriously these days. If I'm wrong, then I don't know what to do because I've been doing it every way I could think of to make my stuff distinctly 'not-Western'-looking. Is this something that is still pretty commonplace? I'm not particularly invested in any sort of art communities.

It's telling that people aren't going to get out of the "If it looks like Japanese anime, it's anime even though it was created by white people" mindset any time soon thanks to shows like A:TLA, but outside of the SJWs screeching at people to draw anime characters "properly", I don't recall much belittling (least not personally). Just misinformed people not knowing the difference between Japanese animation and Western animation influenced by Japanese animation.

Which is well and good. A:TLA and Castlevania look great regardless. Though, I'll leave that sort of thinking to my betters. Moreover, I suppose it's not really relevant to the topic at hand.

That being said, with the sort of people ANN are, is there any chance they're going to go into an 'eat their own' arc down the line? I get the gist of Zac's relationship to them, but I don't know much about how the rest of them get along (or don't).

It's definitely an outdated remnant of the 2000s where teenagers and fans were overwhelmed with the idea that animation is a legitimate form of entertainment and art, yet were so convinced that only Japan was able to make such media only it just so happened to come from Japan. There are its factors and what not, but if anime happened to come from Australia or the UK I'm sure the cultural cringe and self hating worship wouldn't be that much different. The obvious aesop is good animation is good from anywhere etc. and that you shouldn't be discouraged to make something that's known to be from another part of the world simply because of society's ills and prejudice.

I hope so. They typically do get along only probably so because of their "cause", but they're said to be lacking on money because of the lack of subscribers and viewers. Zac was pretty much a core figure since 1998, I am very sure this is a blow to morale for them.

Hope's said many times the first non-heavily edited dub for TV anime she ever watched was the original Fullmetal Alchemist on Adult Swim, so I doubt she has any real opinion or interest in any anime before the 2000s. Aside from the obvious Utena and Sailor Moon every SJW like to flock too despite them both having tons of elements they'd usually bemoan like underage girls being sexualized.

As far as Discotek, yeah, Mike Toole and other ANN cronies work there so it's no surprise and they're a small company. It's more telling the more mainstream companies like Viz and even Funimation haven't said anything about him. It's literally just the 'old guard' clique who are making him out to be some pillar of the anime community.

Which is too bad since Discotek has re-released some cool old school shows I like. But you know what? I didn't know who the fuck Zac Bertschy was before this (well, I read about him on ED once, just like I read about Vic there) and to this day I don't know who the fuck he is except some guy with very stupid opinions on modern anime (and Vic I guess) if this thread is anything to go by. He's worthy of literally nothing other than a stupid diatribe like this wondering who he is.

As for Discotek, just pirate their releases since that's exactly what they deserve given who works there and who they support. And while you're pirating them, weep for the old days of fansubs.

I've heard that Comic Book Resources pays five dollars an article. I doubt ANN even pays that. Insurance would be far, far beyond their budget.

People write for ANN to be part of the human-centipede fart-huffing ourobous that is the anime industry. Even if it is a tiny piece.
