IMO, if you're mocking the death of someone whose only "crime" was having a different political opinion to you, unless you're just joking around, you're just a dickhead. I know nobody will listen and I'll get MATI ratings, but come on, there's a bunch of family and friends who weren't involved in this who are hurting; Zac's dead, just let him rest, some of you are literally beating a dead horse, just let it go.

Orgs chasing money have made them so diluted that I don't think they're a good place to "meet fans" anymore. Cosplay you're better served just finding pics online, you'll find stuff you want that way and less direct ego stroking for thots. As for merch, 99% of what you see at cons (now) you can get on Amazon or some other easily and quickly accessible place.

As far as I've seen no one has contacted Zac's actual family. I suppose some might have contacted his estranged husband, but at least no one in this thread has. So I don't know what you're on about. I don't particularly care if anyone is dancing on his grave in this thread or any other part of this site. It will never reach anyone involved unless they actively look for it.

Also it seems like Zac has been building up some bad karma for years. Let's ignore that him and his clique have been actively detrimental to a foreign medium reaching the United States for years. But he was actively mocking someone like TotalBiscuit. If he didn't want someone mocking his suicide, maybe he shouldn't have killed himself or at least not actively ridiculed another person's death.

Zac was not a particularly good person. He could be the biggest liberal in the industry as long as he wasn't a douchebag. I wouldn't have cared. Anybody who knows me knows I'm not as cruel as many other Kiwis. I might even be a bit too emo.

And yet, I got splinters under my fingernails scrapping the bottom of the barrel trying to find nice things to say about him. He hated pedos. He did one good ANNCast I liked. Uhhh... I agree with him that I wish there was less moe. Maybe a lot of his most exceptional takes were as a result of his relationship with Hope (the bigger cunt). See my point? None of that would make a really good eulogy.

Mostly he was a blight on the industry. But it's not just him, it's the phenomenon he was part of. He is survived by even bigger blights that make up ANN's staff.
 
It seems more evident his finances were the cause of his death more by his co-workers. It got so bad he had to cancel his health insurance because he basically had no more money.

This is a tweet from american anime licensing company Discotek giving their condolences for Zac's death. Discotek is an anime company I would dare say I actually like. I'm sure if I actually looked hard enough, I'm sure I would find something "problematic" with them. But for the most part they keep their nose clean, despite their staff. And what staff is that? Why that includes people like Mike Toole, Justin Sevakis and others, Top ranking members of ANN's staff. One of the biggest problems with the "american anime industry" is how incestuous and riddled with cronyism it is.

And let's look at the language of this tweet, "outspoken supporter of our mission"? What mission is that? Can we expect more LGBT crap after they've run out of putting out any old shows they like since they seem to hate anything current? "Vital advocate for smart anime criticism", why is it that whatever ANN puts out is "smart" criticism? Is accusing shows of nazi fetishism or perpetuating misogyny really "smart criticism"? Is the supposed number one source for anime news just a front for PR and gatekeeping? Yes.

ANN is an absolutely dumpster fire, outside of anything related to KickVic. The fact so much interaction with Japanese companies is through sites like them and Crunchyroll is forever a gigantic crutch and responsible for miscommunication between Japanese creators and English speaking fans.

Also, I hate to be the one to knock down anyone's positive experiences of Zac, but if he was ever the kind of person to have any sense of self worth (oh I'm dying here) or a brain, or a heart no less, he would recognize "guilt by association", "negative influence", and wouldn't have in his last "professional" leaps of his career continued to still stick to his mocking of the head staff of Darling in the Fraanx, an anime series that wasn't even that recent before his inevitable death. Just because you have a "smart" hobby doesn't mean you'll be well versed in other aspects of brainpower or intangible faculties, let alone personal development or a career, and when you refuse to take responsibility for your wrongdoings and problems, the former will spiral you into a catylstic maelstrom of shit. My opinion of him was that he wasn't a tool- He is as just as guilty as any of them, as his actions betray evidence to my clause of "guilt by association". And yes, he did have mental problems, largely on an emotional scale, and I do believe that the crowd he was in was of no help at all in the coming years, but again, what he decided to do was his choice- He wrote that shit, he posted his fucking name on it, and he sure fucking reveled in it. If he would have fuckin left, gotten help and stuck with it, great. Instead he kept on hanging out in the same crowd of oldfags thinking that his life's bullshit would pay off if he kept on jerking his own dick out of self satisfaction. His fault.

So they screwed him over financially by making him write without paying him enough and then let him give up his health insurance without ever telling him it wasn't worth it. That's just beautiful. With "friends" like these, who needs enemies?

I think Discotek is just being polite. I wouldn't read too much into it.

This reminds me though that Zac was on the "Revenge of the 80s" show, whereas Hope was not. There's a good reason for that. Hope doesn't know anything before the late 90s. Trigun is one of the oldest things she's reviewed, IIRC. Now that I think of it... she wasn't on the 90s show either!

Zac's top 10 picks for the 80s weren't exactly... horrible... I guess. He put Space Adventurer Cobra at #3. That show is what I think a lot of SJWs would consider "misogynistic" as all hell.

It sorta makes sense Discotek would like the old ANN farts. ANN's constant bitching about the newest anime is annoying, but old anime needs some love, and people like Hope aren't gonna give it any. It usually takes people of my age to do it.

That all said...

...they still need to burn. None of those faggots put Gunbuster in their top 10 for either the 80s or 90s (it straddled the decades). Fucking Philistines. Burn them all. Sevakis put Genocyber as #5 in the 90s show. Like... what the fuck was he smoking?!
