I once visited a paywalled news blog which refused to show you any content behind the paywall, had multiple fullscreen popups and one of those annoying "you are using adblock" scripts. Threw the entire URL into yt-dlp and it somehow instantly found the m3u8 playlist and started downloading, 2 minutes later I had my news vid.
10/10 would throw random sites into yt-dlp again.

I will mald hard if kikes ever shut this down
They can implement countermeasures on their end, such as the "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" thing that Youtube has been doing lately, but there is no realistic way for them to shut down the development of the software itself.

That is the beauty of open-source software. It can outlive the institution/entity that initially created it, and therefore has built-in resilience against legal action.

If they can't manage to stop adblock, they will never kill yt-dlp. There will always been a team/or a person with severe autism that is willing to counteract jewtube

The only options left for them are to either paywall the entire site, or at least force mandatory google account logins. I suspect both of these will happen at some point in the very near future.

Thankfully, yt-dlp will still work for a lot of other sites too.

yt-dlp exists because yt-dl was shut down.
yt-dlp existed to merge sponsorblock and other plugins into youtube-dl
a year after the takedown attempt the youtube-dl devs pulled a black dad and disappeared for a while which led to yt-dlp's dominant popularity

Interestingly its a fairly direct example of open source delivering on its supposed upsides (allowing someone to rapidly pick up the torch)

Freetube is also really good if you want to use subscriptions/playlists without being forced to use google accounts btw.

Yt-dlp and mpv.
Mpv can be an image viewer, a manga reader, a music player. and a webm maker with yt-dlp, Mpv can watch streams and view Youtube without ever visiting their shitty website.
