tl;dr a very popular and useful app that blocked ads on youtube is shutting down due to a cease and desist from Google

That's a real shame. I've used vanced for a while now and it's great. There are many other alternatives though so not too worried except that vanced was the best of it's kind.

I don't even watch YouTube videos on YouTube anymore. If there's something I want to see, it gets downloaded through youtube-dl and archived and I watch it locally.

They did this with non-ad Twitch apps.
Now with Vanced?
If those motherfucking pieces of shit corps can actually used their own spaghetti coded piece of shits apps, i can relate, but this is bullshit.

Oh well, I've updated to the current version and will find an alternative in 2 years when it stops working, if we're still alive at that point.

Is it possible to download their apks for after they take the downloads down? I can find them for the manager and MicroG, but I'm not sure if I can get at the yt or yt music ones. For now they can be downloaded via the manager, but assuming that taking the downloads down includes sitting down the manager's ability to download...

You could even use a DNS-level block and just block the ads from your router

Fuck. At least I have the most recent version. It's literally the only way to even be able to put up with the bullshit on that site. I hope somebody continues work on it, but they just find some way to get around the idea of it directly interacting with YouTube.
That's basically NewPipe. The downside of not interacting with YouTube is no reccomendations, which can either be a benefit or downside depending on how you feel about them.

Youtube ads have gotten so fucking aggressive on mobile it's ridiculous. Youtube's new "Right to Advertise" clause is a cancer. No matter how many times you reload the page you get 2 ads, one of which is unskippable. Trying to listen to any of the songs on Xerf Spec (RIP)'s channel while driving was a fucking nightmare.

RIP to Vanced, I hope more services pop up to prominence to give Google an even worse headache.

Absolute fucking bullshit. Fuck Google. Vanced saved me from abusing Youtube's free premium trials. I mainly used it not just so I could skip ads, but so I could efficiently listen to ASMR while I went to bed, or listen to music in the kitchen without having to keep my screen on. The fact that background listening on an app became a "paid service" is what ruined this shit the most.

And now this bullshit.

Brave’s Adblock still works with YouTube. It’s not as convenient as using the app, but not having ads is well worth the trade off.
