The amount of tears cried into that brown fur should make it some kind of voodoo doll at this point.
This line reminds me of my little sister's Homer Dog. It's a stuffed doberman our grandpa got her the day she was born, named after our mom's childhood doberman Homer. My sister took Homer everywhere, loved the hell out of that thing. He's very much "real" now, fur all matted and worn and glass eyes all scratched and faded. When she died, Homer dog was our way of holding onto her again. He stunk like her and everything. He rests on top of the box of her ashes along with the baby blanket she carried around her whole life, and we've cried so much into Homer it's amazing he doesn't drip.

I'm looking for advice. I have "Piggo", a large stuffed pig that was a Christening gift from my uncle, over 40 years ago. He's never been washed and his labels are so faded they're illegible. He really needs a wash, he's really shabby, but some of his markings are made with ink and I'm really concerned that if I wash him the wrong way he'll lose his markings and/or disintegrate (he's not fragile but he is over 40 years old).

What would be the best approach to getting decades of grime off him without doing any damage? Dry-cleaning maybe?

For a plush that old I’d highly recommend hand washing in a sink or the like. The chemicals used for dry cleaning can damage the fur, so I wouldn’t suggest that. I’d love to see a pic of piggo if you’re okay with sharing, I love seeing old plush! I still have my little dog that was given to me at birth (44 years ago) and I recently had to do some cleaning on him, I honestly used a rag and dish soap to wash him up and it worked a mint without damaging him, something like that would let you avoid the markings. Just don’t use too much soap or it’ll smell like soap forever.
If you know how to sew it might be worth opening him up and switching out his stuffing for fresh, you can buy several different types at Walmart depending on which you like more. Ladder stitches are ideal for closing up this kind of repair, there’s infinity guides to do this online.

Sorry, you kinda activated my autism about stuffed animals haha

Here's the little fellow. He's about 24 inches from nose to tail, he was bigger than I was when I got him. As you can see, ink has been used for some of his highlights - his eyeliner, his nostrils and some details on his snout and feet, I'm really concerned about accidentally scrubbing those off. His stuffing is in good condition, he was very well-built and I don't think he's lost much or any of his original chonk.

This is the best pig plush I have ever seen, thank you.
Oddly enough I have a pig pillow I brought back to life with a soft shoe cleaning brush, dye-free, fragrance-free, and watered down dish soap.
I put a squirt of soap in some water and brushed in the fur until nice and lathered, then id wipe it off with a clean damp towel and repeat.
When I was satisfied I put it in the dryer on delicate, low, tumble with some tennis balls and kept an eye on it.
Its not brand new but certainly not as grimy anymore!

He’s so fucking cute! So fat.

Just be super careful on the ink parts and if you do accidentally scrub any off a fabric paint pen can help with that!

I still have this old spongebob one I had since I was a baby. Like newborn. I am talking fresh out my mom. It's now 21 years old.

There's obviously a wear and tear. I cut off his tie. But this is the only image I can find online. Sibce then Patrick and Squidward had joined the pile.

To this day I still have a stuffed rabbit named Hoppy. I've been told by my parents that I was given him very shortly after I was born.

there was a brown teddy bear that my mother forced my father to steal from the ritz carlton hotel in london to end a pregnancy induced tantrum. she threatened to jump out a window if he didnt take it. it still exists but im pretty sure it is 50% dead moths by weight.

i use a ikea blahaj shark as a lower back pillow since it is coincidentally the perfect shape for lumbar support once flattened.

I have way too many stuffed animals including a Jaag wolf and Mattel Meeko.

Years ago when I met my bf, I went on a family trip to the beach. I went in the build a bear and saw this cat which I instantly fell in love with. 1000018056.jpg
I didn't have very much money so I really struggled back and forth on whether or not to waste money on a stuffed cat, and ended up really regretting my decision to not buy him. So I get home, start lamenting to bf about how much I loved this cat bc he looked so goofy, etc etc, until I show him a picture of it. He goes hold on a second, goes up into the attic and comes back down with this.

Apparently, the build a bear I had fallen in love with was a remake of one they had released in 1998...... One that my boyfriend made, at the same beach, as a child. To make it even sweeter, he had named it after his own childhood cat. Safe to say he's taken my #1 spot for favorite stuffed animal. Weird fate type shit.

I got a kiwi plushie for Christmas (celebrated early)!!!! He is very happy with his friend Null, who is a yellow doggy plushie!!!

She fits perfectly on my bookshelf!

Next time I get to go to a Build-A-Bear in person, I want to find some kind of little green tutu for her. <3
This is just a suggestion but maybe you could find a "Be patient with me I'm autistic" hat for her to wear online? Just a silly little joke! She's perfect either way!

Not my photo because my camera is shit but I've had this Gizmo for a LONG time including the little rolled-up babies you can stuff into his back and take out. I think I got him for Christmas around 1991-1992 and he's been a big source of comfort since. Still in good condition unlike other toys I had that long because I genuinely love this plush so have always been super gentle with him. Best arms for hugs/uppies!

My mom has the vintage '84 Gizmo doll. It used to squeak whenever you shake it, but my brothers and I shook him way too hard that the squeaker broke I think before we moved out of my childhood home.
