This is a bit retarded as is, but I did buy a cheap motherboard as I the motherboards I wanted became quite expensive with cheaper motherboards being at a similar price the now expensive boards were once at (in all stores in my country).

The cheap motherboard does its job, but it only has 1 M.2 slot and there is no ARGB header (only RGB).
 
  • The first time I tried to install a Linux distro I just installed it on top of the windows partition without formatting.
  • Formatted a storage drive instead of the Win XP drive (lost all my school projects, thankfully it happened a bit after finishing high-school)
  • Fried a stick of ddr2 ram while trying to overclock
  • Forgot to notice a big plastic sticker on the mobo backplate, only noticed it near the end of the build while doing cable management, had to take everything off to remove the damn sticker.
The last one happened last month, clearly I don't get less retarded with time.

Not to install the OS but to be able to install the basic-bitch drivers so you can download the rest of the drivers.
 
I tried gaslighting myself my mouse switches weren't double clicking because I was feeling too lazy to solder in new ones. this went on for two weeks
 
As a kid I installed some adware called MacKeeper on my families MacBook because it was bundled with Adobe Flash. The constant viruses/adware/nagware bundled with legit software is not something I miss from the 00s internet. Mackeeper was some "free anti virus" which would constantly spam you with pop up ads until you paid it money to "fix the virus" which it itself was causing.

I swear those old computers used to have a shortcut to flip the screen upside down. Wonder what the hell the purpose of that was.
 
A small one, but it just happened. I was just reassembling a T450 and screwed the screw under the battery too tight and made a dent on the keyboard side... At least it's only a visual blemish and everything still works fine. I was not aware just how little room there is.

I did this with my own lenovo laptop too.
 
I once punctured a laptop battery while fixing some things. It made a "ffffff" sound and funny smelling white smoke shot up. Use real tools, don't grab a scalpel and think "meh, I can pry [thing] open with this".
 
I thought I could be signed in to my Xbox Live account on two different sources. Turns out, if you try to use Cloud Gaming on a phone while you're on the Xbox, the Xbox signs you out of your current session. I ended up losing a two hours co-op Zombies session.
 
So my monitor kept flashing a black screen, and upon returning, showed my resolution. So I assumed it was changing resolution, then changing back. Could not find anything useful on the net. Multiple hours spent trying to fix it with options, and changing files. Took it in to the computer shop, worked just fine, no problems. Eighty bucks wasted, and a few days with no PC.

Never overthink things, turns out my HDMI cable that came with my new monitor, was the problem. Brand new cable, should work fine, didn't.

Made me think of Slingblade. "It ain't got no gas in it" Felt rather stupid, but at least I finally thought of the most obvious answer.

Oh fuck, I remember this happening to me, couldn't work out what the hell had gone wrong, so eventually just went fuck it, total clean install. Made sure I never put the slider all the way down ever again, which is hard to do because I always have my devices set to the lowest brightness they can be.

So so retarded, never attempt to do shit with computers/android while you don't have the brain capacity to do it. I've been using custom roms for years, everything I've done I've been able to undo, even if it means doing a clean install and losing everything, thems the breaks when you play. Bricked my tablet, now I have to find someone with a Chinese auth account to unbrick it. Yay for me. 😑

Well lads. I fucked up big time.

I thought a 10 year old case with shit air flow and 4 fans could handle my rig.

I was playing Space Marines. Then, I heard a loud pop and my PSU started producing smoke.

My GPU and CPU still work. But the mobo, and PSU shit the bed. I'm going to have to by a new case + multiple fans to prevent this from happening again.
Learn from my mistake. Don't be a cheap.

Thread tax. Recently felt like tightening the leash on my customer android STB. I change the DNS via ADB. But in my infinite wisdom I forgot to check what DNS was there before I put something else.
So the ISP TV app stops working. The box was still going online at that point, everything else was working, so it was pretty clear the TV app refuses to work without a specific DNS. That I didn't check before changing.

Didn't find anything online.

One factory reset later and I guess I won't be changing the DNS on this thing. Fucking glowies.

I think most AVs are like that. Sometimes they can find and remove malicious software, though... except the ones that were freshly made to get around the AV filters, released 5 minutes after your last filter update. Everybody should know the world's best AV can't surpass a mid-tier sandbox, and the world's best sandbox can't be better than not running weird untrusted programs all day like a computer-naive grandma. As any decent computer security expert will tell you, the only way to be really safe is to never use computers. In fact, for maximum security you need to be as far away as possible: Live off the land in an extremely remote area where the constant retarded nigger calamities (both malware-related and soydevs-having-no-idea-what-they're-doing-related) won't drag you into the chaos.

Sperging aside, it's probably still a good idea to have some sort of anti-malware going.

I hate it when I take a second look after I set up my computer that my fans are in the wrong orientation (I didn't want my bottom fans to be exhaust)
