Lego City Undercover. Got it with my Wii U, I like it cause I'm into both Lego and GTA. It plays like all those other Lego games (except no co-op), but I was seriously blown away by its production values. Lots of clever jokes that the intended target audience wouldn't get, references to things like Shawshank Redemption and Dirty Harry.

Dark Chronicle/Dark Cloud 2 on ps2.
Extremely kiddy and cheesy RPG... And one of my all time favourite games. Extremely enjoyable combat and fun weapon based character progression, the story isn't even that bad. If you like action RPGs and haven't played it, I suggest you pick up a copy from ebay or whatever.

At least among the friends I had in college, Robot Alchemic Drive was this. They all thought it was shit. I was addicted to it for the longest time. X3

Other than that, I enjoyed Phantasy Star Universe, which EVERYONE hates but I thought was pretty fun, even though I never played it online (and PSO2 is infinetly better).

I have a future guilty pleasure... I really want to play a few dating sims, I purchased one through Steam, and I'm pretty sure it's not ecchi.

I kinda liked the Simpsons: Tapped Out ripoff Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff. (Yes, it actually exists) I loved the new Comic-Con update which you can unlock the characters such as Stan Lee, Ron Perlman and Patrick Stewart in your virtual Quahog.

The Sims. I always make a mary sue and perpetuate this grossly ideal lifestyle.

Also EU4. I'm bad at it to the point of never winning, so I always cheat. You spend fucking hours getting a shitty country to have more than its starting number of providence and then it all comes tumbling down because Omar called upon the wrath of some superpower that it wasn't even allied to, like the little bitch that it is.

I play The Simpsons: Tapped Out pretty regularly on my tablet. I don't purchase anything in-game (which is a completely fucking stupid waste of money), but something's kind of compelling about building my little Springfield and filling it with things from the series.

Metal Slug Defense. I find it a pretty good real-time strategy game despite the complaints about in-app purchases for characters.

TF2 in 2014. I've been playing since the game came out and while I hate a lot of what the game and the community has become, I can still sit down and have a decent-to-good half hour session in what servers are left.

This thread reminded me of another game I loved playing, at least on an emulator since I don't have a Super Famicom: Sailor Moon: Another Story. Sure it was just another turn-based RPG, but it was Sailor Moon and that was reason enough for me to play it as a kid. I did appreciate the fact that used most of the canon characters from the show (up to Super S I think) to create a totally unique story. I remember wanting it ported to GBA when that system was still new, but of course that didn't happen. :( One of these days I will get around to actually finishing the game....

There was another Sailor Moon game that I played on my ZSNES emulator called Sailor Moon S Kurukkurin.

The object of the game was to find the three talismans hidden in your board before your opponent finds theirs by clearing away the hearts. Each character had their own unique abilities that can either help you or hinder your opponent.

I have a soft spot for various kinds of city-building games. Too bad the genre has been in a decline for a long time: besides Tropico 3, 4 and 5, there hasn't been any good city-building games lately.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This is one is more hated by the LoZ fanbase itself and personally, I always loved it. People begged for a Zelda game that felt like Ocarina of Time, yet called this game bland. While the art style was a bit uninspired, the game looked fantastic. The overworld was amazing and it's still my favorite in the Zelda series.
In my experience, every game that isn't A Link To The Past or Ocarina Of Time is the most hated by the Zelda fanbase, they pretty much want Nintendo to make the same game over and over and any deviation is met with vitriol.
Twilight Princess is a legitimately great game with some of the best dungeons in the entire Zelda franchise imo, the only fly in the ointment is really the pointless waggle controls.
Just a quick question--have you tried both the Gamecube and Wii versions? If so, which one did you like better? I've always heard that the Gamecube version was the stronger one but I've only played the Wii version.
As far as I know, the only differences were.
  • Controls (obviously) The wii remote allows for better aiming with ranged weapons, but basic sword swings are shackled to waving the wii remote. I believe there were differences with item selection and camera control as well due to different amounts of buttons/sticks to utilise.
  • The Wii version has 16.9 widescreen presentation and progressive scan (480p) the Gamecube version was only 4.3 aspect and I don't know if it supported progressive scan.
  • The Wii version's world was "mirrored" due to them making Link right handed to line up with the majority of players using their right hands to wield the Wii remote.

Have you tried Banished? It's a neat little game and currently on sale.

I love the game Alpha Protocol, developed by Obsidian. It is a horribly bugged and unbalanced game, but the story was really freaking good and, unlike pretty much any other RPG I've ever played, your decisions actually affected things in the story. Plus, once I got sucked into the game, I actually became immersed and felt like I was a super awesome secret/rouge agent, and really, bugged mechanics or not, isn't that the ultimate goal of a playing a spy RPG?

Yes, I did. The resource management mechanics reminds me of Dwarf Fortress a little bit.
However, I'm more interested in SimCity-style games about building a modern city. Cities XL is barely playable due to poor optimization, SimCity 2013 is a good game ruined by Maxis's failed attempt to focus it on multiplayer, City Life's focus on avoiding class warfare between various social stratas is rather derpy and I've already played through all Tropico games.
I'm currently looking forward to Cities: Skylines.

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one! Alpha Protocol has its issues but it's still one of the best written games of its genre that I've played. I think it also handled moral/dialogue choices about a million times better than most games these days.

Another game I enjoy that gets me grief from people is Chrono Cross. Yes, I know people hate it because it shits all over Chrono Trigger but that soundtrack is glorious and the alternate timelines stuff is an awesome premise that should be used more.
