Cyberpunk 2077 will be great.

We will see an increase in attempts to boycott/cancel games and game companies. Keyword attempt, few if any will be successful it will mostly just be autistic flailing by SocJus as they try to hold on to what influence they have.

We will see a trailer for the next Elder Scrolls game, but little to no in game footage.

The PS5 will include some forced VR bullshit, and an increase focus on games as a service.

I think Sony will be cocky with their apparent censorship to appease China and/or the woke culture. They may get a decent start due the PS4, but gamers don't want to be treated like children. Sony may try to push VR like with the PS4; I don't think like with Xbox One and Kinect.

1. PS5 will only be BC with PS4 games
Likely. PS3 games were hard to develop for thanks to its complex hardware architecture. Native backwards compatibility for PS3 seems unlikely, especially since a few PS3 exclusives were already remastered to PS4. If Sony was smart, they could've enabled compatibility with PS1/PS2 games with the PS4 just by inserting the disc into the console. Microsoft managed to do that with Xbox 360, even OG Xbox games. Hell, PS3 had the ability to buy and download PS1/PS2 games from their marketplace. Say you bought that same game, you had to purchase it AGAIN on the PS4 marketplace. Why?

Microsoft will try to have a killer app from their recently acquired studios for the Series X. They may try to compete with Sony's exclusives in the single player department. MS will encourage their consumer philosophy by using the Series X as an option to play the latest games. Their X-Cloud proposal may combine with the Game Pass.

Rockstar may capitalize with GTA V once more with supposed BC with the PS5 and Series X. They already added GTA V into Xbox's Game Pass subscription, that's already more revenue for GTA Online. I think GTA Online may hold on for a few more years. I don't see them porting GTA V a third time into the next generation. Red Dead Redemption 2's community may be stagnant compared to GTA Online, so updates may be less frequent compared to GTA Online. GTA VI may be announced in the middle of the console generation; Take Two may have R* hold off on that because of GTA Online. It's still making money, and another GTA may cannibalize GTA Online.

I would like a Bully 2.

Respawn Entertainment will have a chance after the success of Jedi Fallen Order. They proved themselves they are competent with making lucrative AAA releases and great entertainment properties. I would hope they would get the DICE treatment or even better, split with EA and go independent. Titanfall 2 was criminally underappericated; that franchise deserves another installment.

Well if they allowed PS1/PS2 and PSP emulation on PS5 that would help add content to the PS Now service which right now is awful compared to Game Pass, however with how lazy they were with the PS1 Mini using an outdated open source emulator if Sony does do emulation could see it just using that again.

Agree on the rebuying of games, what makes it crazier is PS1 classic on PSN it was just one purchase for PSP, PS3 and Vita.

PS3 emulation should be doable in the style of what MS did with 360 games going off where PC emulation is at this point, but I doubts Sony give a shit to invest the time and money needed.

I am going with a wild bet. Being confident with a decent Star Wars game, EA will attempt another half ass Battlefront sequel because is something they would do.

A significant shift to mandatory subscription service gaming for both PS5 and XBox Whatever. We're seeing the effective betas of this now with things like Game Pass. Buying single games is going to be phased out as the consoles go on, and we'll see major bitching about this starting around the holidays. Discs will still exist, but will be only for the more expensive console versions, and discs/single game content will be like bonus content which Cerny hinted at. It's also surprising to me how powerful the specs are on both consoles, comparatively far better than all previous iterations... that suggests to me that shenanigans are taking place with the significant losses being taken. There's no need for "12 teraflops" to sell consoles.

Stadia will flop and Google will start ignoring it through 2020, but whoever wins at being first with cloud gaming is going to make zillions. That won't happen in 2020, though. Once it does, sad times for PC gamers like myself.

BC will continue through online purchase only, lol if you think they're enabling all your old discs to work.

Everspace 2 is gonna be gud, along with a boom of the "AA" gaming scene

My predictions

1) Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be fucking rad.
2) Yakuza 7 will similarly be rad
3) Persona 6 will be teased/announced and will look like another rehash of Persona 3/4/5.
4) The XboxX will release to little fanfare and won't have much in the way of exclusives. Microsoft will continue to cannibalize themselves with Gamepass.
5) Overwatch 2 will release an no one will give a partial fuck.
6) Diablo 4 will be playable (as a demo/beta) at Blizzcon and will feel functionally identical to Diablo 3, making people wonder why they're bothering at all.
7) Playstation 5 will be cool but probably too expensive out of the gate ($499+).
8.) Pokemon won't do much this year except maybe tease a new switch title at the very end of the year.
9) All "major" announcments will not happen at E3 with Microsoft finally leaning into thier own marketing (like Sony does with "State of Play" and Nintendo does with "Nintendo Direct")
10) Capcom will announce Street Fighter 6 and it will actually look good.
11) Bethesda will delay the FO76 "Wastelanders" DLC again, then release it in Q3 2020. It will be beyond mediocre and introduce a whole new host of gameshattering bugs. There will be another, horriffic, tie in to "Fallout 1st" subscriptions.

  • CP2077 will be at least very good
  • Bethesda will mercy kill trainwreck called FO76
  • EA won't close BioWare; instead Ghost will go to chopping block due to NFS: Heat underperformance
  • PS5 will be fucking expensive
  • Still nothing about GTA VI
  • Major game journalist portal will close up shop
and Konami still will be fucking blight on gaming industry

-Bully 2 for PS5 and XsX will be announced, probably at E3 but who knows

-Super Mario 3D World will get a rerelease on Switch and probably end up this year's most noteworthy Switch release

-Super Mario 64 DLC for Super Mario Maker, but everything's still weirdly in 2D

-Breath of the Wild's sequel will get another teaser but not show much more, with an announced release year of 2022

-Just Dance 2021 will get a Wii version because why not at this point, 2020 did

-Payday 3 will get a release date for sometime in 2021

-Konami will release something clumsy and rétarded like they've been doing yearly for a couple of years now, probably a piece of shit bearing the Castlevania title to ride off of Bloodstained's coattails

-Mega Man 12 gets announced because 11 sold well

-Stadia chugs along and nobody but a handful of soyboys on Reddit give a shit. It remains inaccessible to just about anyone without a Chromecast Ultra or a nice laptop and a great internet connection, in that there will be too many problems with trying to play it any other way.

Given remakes being all the rage in the twilight years of the 2010's and most of them doing quite well with even the "failures" like RE3 Remake and FF7: R still selling like hot cakes and more or less being decent games on their own that were victims of their own hype (brevity was RE3's issue and the weird plot twist hurt FF7:R, but I think future installments could hopefully alleviate it) then I think remakes of classic PS1 and PS2-era titles will be the main thing for AAA gaming in the 2020's once the COVID-19 lockdowns are fully behind us, and especially once woke culture crashes and burns.

I could see a few games getting remade in the 2020's decade, quite honestly.

1. A Legend of Zelda remake for 2020 or 2021 using the same engine as Breath of the Wild.

Based on what I know about Nintendo, I think they'll probably remake Majora's Mask or Wind Waker in this scenario since both a lot of nostalgia value but aren't quite on the same "Sacred Cow" level of status as Ocarina of Time is. They could also try a remake of the original NES Zelda as well, since the OG Zelda was one of the earliest prototypes for open world gaming and would lend itself well to Breath of the Wild-style gameplay

2. A remake of Morrowind

As much as I utterly cringe at the thought of this idea, I wouldn't put it past Bethesda to try this stunt since Fallout 76 bombed badly, the Skyrim well is starting to run dry, and Morrowind now has this cult status as "the last good Elder Scrolls game" so you know damn well Bethesda sees the potential for nostalgia bucks and will no doubt screw it up massively

3. Dead or Alive Remake/Reboot/Sequel

This seems kind of bold and "optimistic" but hear me out, I think we could see Koei-Tecmo try to do an MK9-style reboot/remake of the franchise that more or less serves as a reimagining of the first two or three games and is very much a "back to the roots" title.

Woke culture has more or less peaked this year, Anita has cashed in the last of her chips for one "last hurrah" with Last of Us Part 2, and Evo has essentially crashed and burned with all the dirty laundry being aired about Evo and the Smash community.

DOA has been in the crosshairs of SJW's since the start of "Current Year" and Evo's fuckery was one of the main reasons why DOA6 ended up the way it did.

If Koei is smart about it, they'll do a return to form and just go all-in on the fanservice and "sexy" characters and costumes for a reboot of the DOA franchise.

It may be gaudy and cringe in some ways, but it will sell like hotcakes and more or less be seen as a palate cleanser after a decade of frumpy and pretentious wokeness, especially if the game itself can stand on its own gameplay merits outside of the fanservice.

Sony's censorship policies and the SJW hate-boner for anything tangentially weeb-related may be an issue right now, but I think the cultural tide turning the other direction will get them to go and change their tune, especially following the blunders surrounding Last of Us Part II and if the Volcano High game bombs badly enough.

Hell, if Koei wanted to be really daring, they could even have a "nude mode" DLC that's exclusive to Steam or whatever, but that would probably be a bit too ridiculous in all honesty.

4. GUN remake

I know what you're thinking, "What the fuck is GUN?" or "Why the fuck would anyone remake an obscure AA title from 2005?" but hear me out.

GUN is at best a hidden gem and cult classic, but it could also be spun as a "new franchise" by the people at Activision and they could probably cash in on the unexpected success of Red Dead Redemption as well, especially since Rockstar is preoccupied with GTA Online and porting GTA V for the umpteenth time.

GUN was more or less the proto-Red Dead Redemption, even moreso than Red Dead Revolver was. It was basically meant to be GTA III in the Old West and was part of the first wave of "GTA Clone" sandbox games in the Sixth Generation of consoles.

Spongebob Squarepants: Battle of Bikini Bottom got a remake, and with GUN, you don't even need to pay for the licensing of another IP. Which brings me to my next potential idea....

5. The Simpsons: Hit & Run Remake

Given that this is often considered "The one good Simpsons video game" alongside the original Konami arcade game, I would not be surprised if Disney decides to go for a nostalgia cash-in while Harry Shearer, Julie Kavner, and Dan Castellaneta are still among the living. It's unlikely but if they do try it, it will probably suck because anything Disney touches turns to shit these days.

The only way it could work though is if Disney can let go of its terminal wokeness to bring back Apu and let Hank Azaria voice the non-White characters like Carl and Lou. I don't see that being likely, and chances are if Disney allows for a remake of Hit & Run, it will flop.

Sadly, a Simpsons Hit & Run remake actually has a lot of potential if they allow it to have the full potential and go for a ground-up reboot/re-imagining of the game.

I'd include a lot of the content that was cut from the original version and maybe even add some extra levels (honestly, I'd love to see levels where you play as Moe or Milhouse, since Apu got his own level in the story)

As cringe as this sounds, a good Simpsons Hit & Run remake/reboot could work well if they also had a multiplayer mode that's more or less meant as a Simpsons "GTA Online" but without all the awful things about GTA Online these days.

Won't ever happen though.

We'll probably also get a GTA San Andreas remake too since the original is so beloved that people who haven't even played GTA know about it

I always figured GTA III would get remade first since it was more influential in the grand scheme of things and since it's both heralded as the harbinger of open-world gaming AND is a lot more sparse than San Andreas, it'd be more likely to get a proper remake.

Still, I don't see modern-day R* doing a GTA remake given how badly GTA Online has fucked the franchise and how GTA VI is being made at a glacial pace because of GTA Online and given what Take-Two has turned Rockstar into and the fact that Dan Houser left the company in disgust, I'm not sure if I even want to entertain the notion of a GTA III remake, let alone one of San Andreas.

It'd probably be worse than the hypothetical Morrowind remake I mentioned earlier

They're probably going to remake GTA 1 and 2 for mobile and load them up with micro transactions.

Think Dungeon keeper, but people will actually care about it this time.
