A week ago I was the guest preacher at Allendale United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. Yesterday the church was protested by the Proud Boys and others who don't appreciate the messages of love and social justice the church posts on their street-side sign. In the week between these two Sundays, Rev. Andy Oliver was bombarded by accusations of pedophilia and "grooming" in tirades across social media platforms and other venues.

The hurling of the term "groomer" got me thinking. The word has been used for a few decades to refer to the process of acclimating children to sexual abuse, and the uber-right drinkers of Florida Gov. Desantis' presidential-campaign-flavored Kool-Aid have echo-chambered his speech writer's appropriation of the term to refer to anyone who supports LGBTQIA+ rights. But the word has plenty of good, useful, healthy meaning, and I'm going to step up and take it back.

We all groom kids. Anyone who has a beloved child in their life is a groomer. Everything we do has the power to influence young people and instruct them on what it means to be human. Every action of love or hate, every lesson of generosity or greed, every spoken instruction about privilege or superiority. The people yelling and waving hateful signs at Allendale UMC groom the kids around them, hoping to shape and form them in their own angry images and likeness. They were actively grooming.

As for me and my house, we try to groom the kids in our life to be:
  • Accepting of themselves and others.
  • Autonomous thinkers.
  • Cognizant of the critical importance of consent.
  • Believers in the power of faith, hope, and love, with the greatest of these being love.
This past weekend showed me the potential power of this kind of grooming. Our eldest grandchild went to their senior prom wearing a handsome blue suit with a vest and tie. She hates dresses. Makeup and glamor are definitely not her thing. The confidence and joy in her expression at being simply a dressed-up version of herself was wonderful to see.

The following evening there was an award banquet at her school, which we were invited to attend. One of her friends is transfeminine with only partial support from her family. The girl wasn't able to express her gender authentically at the event, and our grandchild recognized her discomfort. She took several friends to the girl's table and sat with her for the remainder of the evening, so she wouldn't feel as alone, uncomfortable, and unrecognized.

Our grandchild is an awesome person, and would be without our brazenly queer presence in her life. But if there's a chance that our love and advocacy has played a tiny role in her freedom to be herself, and her deep compassion and solidarity for those who struggle to be themselves, then we are proud, and honored.

Yes, I'm a groomer. At least, I strive to be.

Yeah, the word "Grooming" used to be more mundane. IE, "Grooming a successor".

That era has long since passed.

The real interesting thing to me is seeing how much a church can be pozzed, looking at the website for Allendale Methodist proves to me that some people are at best complete bleeding heart Christians who will try to help people who will hate and kill them, or are wolves in priests clothing. Look forward to hearing about the child molestation scandal in a few years or so.

I think the Church gets the brunt of the media coverage because the instituional idea is to deconstruct the local Church as an institution. Meanwhile, virtually every month we get a new (buried)child sex case in schools. But you don't see a mass evacuation of schoolchildren.

Another group of Satanic heretics who will burn in a particularly nasty circle of Hell unless they repent for their wickedness.
Language has no meaning anymore.

Let's obfuscate this issue by taking a word that's being (over)used in a specific, narrow context and have it serve as a catch-all phrase to cover things like mentoring, parenting or being a good role model.

Grooming has a specific legal term. This is Andrea Dworkin 'all sex is rape' levels of discourse.
At least Dworkins had the excuse of being raised in a sex cult and journoscum actually sexually harassing her. She also wanted to kill pedos, end porn, and end prostitution.

I mean, I said "(over)use", pointing to how virtually anything politically disagreeable = grooming, whether it fits the criteria or not.
The thing is that is what they are trying to point out (although badly). That calling something that isn't the exact (or even close) to the definition is stupid. But yes, agree.

Trying to devalue the meaning of groomer to pretend this isn't about the topics you're trying to force into school curricula, that are sexual in nature? Well, that sure is an interesting tactic! Now hand over your hard drives.

Woah! How interesting that supporting "LGBTQIA+ rights" requires indoctrinating young children into a crossdressing death cult that euthanizes itself! It's almost like the only way to be a so-called "ally" anymore is to let them do whatever they want with your children.

Why are you talking with children in 3rd grade and under about consent? Children cannot consent. Stop talking about sex with children, you freaks.
This is what the left has set out to do intentionally. They muddle language and definitions so that they increase their power and make the communication of ideas difficult or impossible. By being able to redefine terms at their behest they can obfuscate their actions and intentions or create villains from regular people. See the redefinition of racism or vaccines as examples. If words don't have set meanings then it becomes impossible to accurately convey ideas. And if there is no way to accurately convey ideas it becomes increasingly difficult to discredit bad ideas, to find common ground, or to organize. The left uses language in the same way it uses everything, to sow division and chaos.

They already said this over 10 years ago.

I wonder if it means people who identify as queer are actually pedos?

Everyday, the sodomite mask is slipping.

It always meant "sodomite".

The word "queer" implies that a person is going out of their way to tear down boundaries. Either by being a sexual degenerate, or by having a shitty sense of fashion.

It's currently mainstream to fuck those of the same sex, to wear tacky clothing or body piercings, or to identify as a member of the opposite sex or as an alien hermaphrodites with a barbie doll crotch.

So the only way they can push boundaries now is to fuck your kids up, both figuratively and literally.

I know where that church is at. The people who run it are big attention hoes.

I'm beginning to think that Paul might have been just a tad bit based.

"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

Jesus on the Eternal Groomer

The pedophile is immunized against all dangers. One may call him a groomer, lolicon, molester, sex offender, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a pedophile and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: “I've been found out.”

Ok here’s my take on the full pedo version:

”If loving children makes me a pedophile, then FINE, I’m a pedophile!”

I really do think that’ll be the way they go.

That hits their usual notes of deliberate disingenuousness. "Why everyone should be a pedophile: the children are our future"- eventual WaPo editorial.

Funny story while I was at work; I was headcanoning a scenario in my head where a twitter user basically said online "If being a groomer means I support gay rights and the right to gender identity, then you know what? I'm proud to be a groomer. If any republican calls me a groomer I'll just say, 'Why yes! I support equal rights. I support CRT. Why yes I do actually support translives.'" I don't know if I should be called Nostradamus or if I have seen dumb shit so much on twitter that I can basically predict when people will do dumb shit, but I called it right as the groomer controversy hit the mainstream.

Onision actually tried to deflect the "OK Groomer" insult several years back by saying something along the lines of, "Yes, I take good care of my hair, thanks for noticing,"

The only thing anyone had to do was to change their mantra to, "OK pedophile."

And that's exactly what we should do here too.
