5 years is wishful thinking, and a bit of a 'donate now to lock him up" ploy by Rebel. The Crown will almost always proceed with a summary charge, which carries a much lighter sentence. I posted in the Yaniv assaults Bexte thread about a very similar case where a Beta-Male loser assaulted another reporter for The Rebel a few years ago. There are many (legal) similarities in the cases. Also, in both instead, The Rebel compelled the Crown to file charges, and they also sued in civil court. Yeah like I said, JY would need to get convicted of something that has a mandatory minimum sentence here so that the Judge has no choice but to incarcerate him. Possession of child porn carries 6 months minimum, so that would fit the bill and tie the judge's hands.
While I agree with His/Her Majesty on this one. I do wonder what if any impact a new assault charge would have on Johnny's release on his own recognizance regarding the weapons charges? Wouldn't the Crown Prosecutors at a minimum wish some form of bail following this incident?
Unfortunately even child pornography might not get him substantial jail time. The BC Court of Appeal struck down the mandatory minimum in late 2018 and gave the accused a conditional sentence (a sort of probation). The accused had very poor cognitive function and was deemed low risk. I wouldn’t be surprised if Yaniv tried to pull something similar.

Stricter conditions might be imposed. Committing more offences is a breach of the first condition of every recognizance, which is to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The Crown usually seeks a cash bond when they’re concerned about a flight risk, but not necessarily when they’re concerned about more offences. He will likely face more conditions like reporting to a bail supervisor, abstaining from substances, etc.
Assault is a pretty minor charge in Canada - he wouldn’t even be entitled to legal aid. It would usually be considered disproportionate to remand him on a charge that wouldn’t carry prison time.
I want him to be ordered to anger mgt. as a condition of probation....I think we can all be confident JY will fuk that up too...& thus violate his probation.
