I picked up a cheap One X because my friend gave me some 360 games that are playable on it, and to have a cheap Dolby Vision-capable 4K disc player, and man, for a system that was meant to be the centrepiece of your entertainment setup, Microsoft could not have done a shittier job with HDMI-CEC implementation.

Literally the only CEC function the Xbox One can do is to send a power toggle signal. If your setup is already on, pushing power on the bone shuts it off instead of changing inputs.

I’ve seen Xbots claim the Xbone/Series OS is better than the PS4 and PS5 OS, and it is very clear that people saying that are either paid MS astroturfers, retarded, or suffering the effects of Traumatic Brain Injury.

According to my TV’s info display, yes. For reference, I have a Sony X90K 65-inch and the One X is hooked up to it through a Sony STR-AN1000 receiver.

Watching the Synapse 4K disc of Suspiria, the info display showed a proper 4K resolution and Dolby Vision were being fed to it.

The interface for playing discs sucks, so I ordered the 8bitdo media remote, and it’s hit or miss on resuming a disc if you stop in the middle of playback, but the picture and sound are good. That said, fuck Dolby for making DV exclusive to Xbox. I’d prefer using my PS5 Pro by far, as Sony knows how to make a disc playback interface that doesn’t suck, even using the game control instead of a remote.

On lots of newer 'smart' television models the X-Box Series X has major issues connecting via HDMI. It's just another broken aspect of the last two generations of Xbox models that Microsoft seems to not care enough to fix. The older models like the original Xbox and 360 were just 'plug and play'.

Well that takes me back. Strong colors with that one, even on VHS, good thing they released it on 4k. Hope they did it justice, at least you seem to be happy.

Perhaps OneX works better than Series X then, and let's hope that it indeed displays DV like your display says, on all discs.

I got an actual player after watching just two 4k discs on the XSX. No Dolby Vision, awful amount of noise, overall usability, the works. I probably now prefer just HDR10 for the player/TV adjustability after the "pleasure" of watching Michael fucking Mann's motherfucking Collateral and motherfucking Heat, but the option is nice to have.

Shame the good players are kind of expensive, almost never on a sale and the technology can be a little shoddy, they don't even make new proper models. Physicalbros owned, not like this 4ksisters etc etc.

The Synapse Blu and UHD discs come from a restoration Don May did with the original director of photography supervising the color, so both are amazing visually, but the 4K disc is on a whole different level.

They also recreated the original 4.0 audio track that was only on about 50 or so prints back in 1977, and even did an Atmos treatment based form that mix for the 4K.
