Microsoft is Deleting All Traces of ‘This is an Xbox’ Marketing Campaign

In 2024, Microsoft and Xbox launched a marketing campaign designed to indicate just how many things could be classified as an Xbox. The theme of the campaign was simply that – ‘This is an Xbox.’ It showed how everything from televisions to phones, and from consoles to VR headsets could be classed as an Xbox, but it unfortunately diluted the brand.

In recent hours, it has been noticed that Microsoft is silently shutting down all traces of the campaign, removing old news articles and blog posts that refer to ‘This is an Xbox’.

Xbox just revealed Gaming Copilot is coming to "current-generation consoles" later this year

Microsoft has announced that its Gaming Copilot AI assistant, which has been available in beta on PC, mobile, and the ROG Xbox Ally since last year, will be coming to current-gen consoles in 2026.

"I'm excited to announce that later this year, we will bring Gaming Copilot to the current-generation consoles, and we will continue to bring it to more services that players are playing," Sonali Yadav, Xbox's gaming AI partner group product manager, revealed at a Game Developers Conference panel attended by GamesRadar+.

Presumably, "current-generation consoles" simply means Xbox Series X/S, though no specific platforms were called out in the announcement.
As it currently exists on other platforms, Gaming Copilot lets you ask guide-like questions about the game you're currently playing. Microsoft's official site offers an example question like "Can you remind me what materials I need to craft a sword in Minecraft?" You can also ask for game recommendations, or your own play history or account details – helpful, I suppose, if you've forgotten when your Game Pass subscription is set to renew.

Gaming Copilot has been in beta for some time on non-console platforms, without much wider buzz (positive or negative) in the gaming community, but that may change once the AI assistant reaches a wider audience on Xbox consoles.

Either way, Microsoft appreciates the data from those who've used the feature up to this point in beta. "We've learned a lot this past year, and appreciate all of the feedback that we've gotten from from the community," Yadav says.

Xbox's new gaming AI aims to "help you get good" at everything from Overwatch 2 to Minecraft by watching you play and giving you advice.

Meanwhile basic features like taking/sharing clips or searching something from the store are like barely functional farts, equally embarrassing for the ones who farted them out and the ones who subject themselves to those unfortunate things

What would you even use an AI for when gaming?

Hints, walk-throughs?

Why would I like an AI to criticise me while I look for the yellow arrow?
Can't you just look that stuff up yourself? I mean, just have your phone or laptop near you, find a reliable guide or resource, then multitask. It's not AI is perfect. I'm assuming too that AI will play the game FOR you if you prompt it. I repeat: what's the goddamn point then?

“Hey Kinect Copilot! Can you help me with this part of the game?”
“I can’t see whats on your screen right now, but you should be able to progress by interacting with anything painted yellow.”

Like watching a let's play, only it's skynet screaming like a tard when the jump scare happens.

Imagine if the AI could shit on Xbox games in real time, if you told it to do that. You're just walking around in Avowed or some shit like that and the AI just wouldn't shut up about how lame everything is.

It would interrupt the shitty characters (with a record scratch noise if you prefer) and shit on them at every turn. Perhaps it could make retarded characters wear dunce hats and shit themselves.

I would buy all of those games immediately.

That would be fun and interesting, so of course it will never happen.

Not even the report system works as expected. You could forward 60 second clips with voice chat if you report somebody. You cannot even use that to report cheating.

Doesn't the Xbox have an Internet browser? Why do they need six months to implement a feature already on the console?

I just realized I've *never* asked AI for help with a video game.

The AI shit seems really gay. I was thinking though, if the new xbox has a digital variant and you can just uninstall windows from that thing and install steamOS, might not be the worst thing if you're looking for a sleek console with specs better than the steam machine. Assuming that will be the case but knowing M$ that thing'll be locked down tight.

I dont think its entirely fair to say people wont be interested in emulating the xbone
Halo 5 never got added to the master chief collection and im sure someone would be interested in at least trying the older forza titles

Something I learned from a Reddit post regarding Xbox's backwards compatibility: remember these multipack discs that would come with Xbox 360 Arcade bundles back then?

If you insert those into your Xbox One/Series X consoles, it will download the corresponding arcade titles* that are backwards compatible from Xbox 360. You'll still need the disc in question.

*The green complication disc on the left only boots up Feeding Frenzy. Luxor 2, Boom Boom Rocket and PacMan Championship Edition are backwards compatible but they don't install. Weird.
