I'd buy a reasonably priced Steam Box just to unify my library.
That could be a big step in getting the masses interested in PC gaming. A console version of the Steam Deck with a 1TB SSD (user upgradable of course) for a budget price? Maybe bundle some old Valve games since they always go on sale for dirt cheap anyway, for the younger audience that still hasn’t played Portal or HL2. And you can either connect whatever controller you want or buy a shiny new Steam Controller 2 that has the same control options as the Steam Deck minus the touch screen.

I don't remember what thread it was said in, but a good point to remember about the Japanese Market, despite how insular it is, is that Japan itself has a massive Aging Population issue - there's a reason Abe demanding young people have sex became something of a meme.

As much as Japanese companies might be used to seeing the market outside of Japan as Bonus Points, they might have to pivot to appealing to them, and quality is going to suffer for it.
People want their weeb shit to be as much of a weeb shit as possible. Japanese devs shouldn't even bother to dub their games in English.

I figure an ideal Steam home console would be just an Xbox Series S running SteamOS. Same power, same price. Bonus points if someone figures out a way to just wipe an actual Xbox and install SteamOS for good.

This is weeb cope. China is buying up all of the Japanese devs and market, the new Persona 3 remake has LGBT flags in it, the Japs have fallen dude. They'll take whatever money they could want.

Nintendo may not sell because there are still some old heads with integrity around, and they probably stand to make more money and maintain more influence as an independent player in Japan's global economy at large, but to say it is an impossibility is incorrect.
The initial comment you are are responding to was hyperbolic, but he has a point. Historically, it has been rare for a Japanese company to be bought out by foreign companies. It wasn't necessarily because the Japanese government intervened (the Carlos Ghosn situation notwithstanding), but because a) Japanese stockholders have historically been reticent to sellout to foreign interests, and b) interlocking shareholding between companies created large corporate groupings called Keiretsu that made buyouts difficult if not impossible. In a Keiretsu, member companies own small shares of each other, centered around a core bank that also acts as a major shareholder. This insulates these companies from market volatility and takeover attempts. And guess what? One of Nintendo's largest shareholders is a Japanese bank. The Bank of Kyoto to be exact. In recent years, however, the power of the Keiretsu has shrunken, the core banks are no longer able to consistently bail out their attached businesses, and thus corporate acquisitions, including foreign acquisitions, have been growing in Japan. The Japanese government seems to be subtly encouraging the some acquisitions, or at least not standing in the way, as seen when Foxconn bought out Sharp Electronics.

As much as Japanese companies might be used to seeing the market outside of Japan as Bonus Points, they might have to pivot to appealing to them, and quality is going to suffer for it.
This what a lot of people don't understand. As Japan ages and its population shrinks, the domestic market will shrink with it. Japanese companies will become more and more dependent on foreign investment and foreign markets to stay afloat.

Fucking agreed, dubs are a waste of money that make faggots believe they are people and make games take longer to be localized. Hell, if only I wasn't so lazy I'd seriously consider learning to read Japanese to ensure they don't get tainted by retards with an agenda.

Weebs insisting on more direct translations have been a disaster for translation efforts. Like, Final Fantasy VI SNES felt more like a sitcom, and the GBA retranslation was more accurate, though dry. They don't talk like normal people anymore.

I really wonder if Japan would allow the sale of Nintendo. Think of the influence on global pop culture the company has. It's not just a business, it's a national strategic asset. If the Japanese government is anything less than 100% sold out to the US I suspect they would use any possible method and pretense to prevent Nintendo from selling. A company like Sharp in no comparison, they made decent consumer products but they weren't shaping the childhood and leisure time of millions or even billions of people.

There is a middle ground between machine translation and "completely rewrite the fucking script so that its unrecognizable to the original and add my own politics to it". When people say they want more accurate translations, they are saying they want people to stop doing the latter.

Its hard to say what the Japanese government would do in that situation. But its also hard to imagine a situation where Nintendo would actually sell.

I expect Valve to pump out a pre built PC at some point.
2014 called, no one bought the Steam Machines. Perhaps the time to try again is now. I know some sperg is building them again, but I meant like an actual manufacturer.
Holy shit is he a fuckup. Mistake after mistake. $1500 for a piece of shit. "I don't communicate well"
Jesus, he makes every teenager mistake possible. Component doesn't fit? Physically force it! Ram frequency mismatch? Buy that shit anyway! Then go to Best Buy and pay more!

Nucs and the mini consoles shows there is absolutely a market for this shit. (I fucking hated big picture mode)

Holy shit, there are TWO OF THEM

What the fuck are these things, SOY ORKS?

MS wants to buy Nintendo:

Yeah, NO. Japanese companies worth a damn would not just bow down to whatever money is thrown at them. Remember when MS bought Rare in 2002? They went from releasing timeless classics like Banjo, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong to being a mere subsidiary for MS to compete in the family friendly gaming market. NOW they're just: "oh, they made that MMO kiddie pirate game."

Microsoft reduced investment in XCloud to "zero" last year, Fortnite on XCloud success was only ‘fairly marginal’
This explains how I'm experiencing long queue times and latency when attempting to use xCloud on a console. Fun fact: it's still in beta through their own submission.
The XSX refresh: yeah well get fucked consolefags, PC gamers accepted the cloud only reality with Steam long ago, and we were telling you that you will be next on the chopping block. The only reason you still had your disks was because Microsoft's and Sony's markets were too big to just yank the plug, while Valve introduced Steam in 2003 and gradually lured a much smaller market into the cloud ecosystem, easing them into this new reality.
Add insult to injury, there's reports of a new Xbox console in 2028. Great, now the existing Xbox Series S|X has four or so years for developers to unravel its true potential. And it's still at $400.

I have zero interest in anything Dishonored related after the second game and it's nigress DLC butchered all of the mystery and compelling background of the original setting. The only way you could get me on board would be to scrub Death of the Outsider from canon completely.
They'd have to bring back Billy Lush's version of the Outsider to make it good. The guy in the second game was too "I'm so cool, look at me being all mysterious XDDDDDD"

Shit's changed fast thanks to the coof
The Chyena Virus was every big companie's scapegoat for making drastic changes without any consequences, and to THIS DAY, when majority of people don't give two fucks about it, is stil being used as the go-to excuse for why things have to be the way they are. it's so fucking annoying.

Yeah, well Gamestop is open again and yet half of sales remain digital.

They don't talk like normal people anymore.
Neither do localizers
A good translation would be like "Shinji, thanks for saving me from those creepy guys, let me treat you to lunch!"
an overly direct translation would be like "Shinji-kun, thank you for saving me from those yanki chinpira, I'll pay for your shio ramen"
but the actual localization we get is "Shawn, I didnt need your help because I'm a strong woman who can handle those trump voting incels alone. I guess I'll buy your lunch even though I only get paid 78c for every dollar you get paid!"
so complaining about the overly weeby direct one seems like a losing battle

Hey I bought a Steam Machine :(

Seriously though that fucking thing was a lifesaver, when my actual pc crapped out on me during one of my college classes. I dug through my closet found the little thing and it was decent enough to run most of the shit I needed and got me through the class while I saved up the money for a new hard drive. So I have a soft spot for the little box, though never really played many games off of it haha.

With how successful the Steam Deck has been I mean it wouldn’t be the craziest thing if they tried it again. But maybe they should actually put some effort into this time lol.

Your assuming we get to that point. There are reports that if Game Pass doesn't take off by 2027, Microsoft will have to leave the game industry, direct from Phil Spencer himself. The fact that this is only a year before Xbox is supposed to release a new console is not a coincidence.
