I absolutely never said console gaming is dead there I just meant that basically everyone in Japan play's phone games which obviously makes it a bigger target market. I also never said they ONLY play those I made a point to mention I assume that being bigger is also why handhelds were bigger there than the usa. I just agreed it absolutely is true based on what I know the mobile game market is bigger than the console market. which is true everywhere just by fact more people have phones w candy crush they fuck around on then homes have consoles. I am not putting a dog in any fight and I never once mentioned home consoles with my own frame of reference I was just agreeing that to my knowledge the Japanese audience is very mobile focused and why that makes sense to me. I never mentioned the amount of RPGs releasing in the market either. I have to assume a lot of the shit on phones probably is because its a popular genre there. Any proper research into anything would tell you that a higher player base will mean higher players in a specific target system regardless of the other ones they have or use. my point wasn't any of that retarded shit, just that more people use mobile games there so its likely more people treat that as more of their primary bc they use it more and their actual game consoles aren't their primary focus. I mean fuck, I own a blu ray player but watch most movies from downloads that doesn't mean I don't own and use a br device. just its not a daily driver as I saidPlaying mobile games doesn't exclude from playing games on other platforms, only fanboys believe of platform loyalism that way.
And you admit to use your non-Japanese friend viewing things from the workplace/transits as a frame of reference that (esp. home) consoles are dead there, which is silly.
Despite we have Famitsu & Media Creates hard data to prove console gaming still remains as popular amongst the Japanese populace as things were in the 2000's, if not considerably stronger than before thanks to digital distribution. It's a combination of game development taking longer the more powerful the hardware is (to aim for high fidelity graphics), large companies (such as Squeenix) making retarded decisions and finally Playstation currently dying over there, thus prompting to an undergoing massive industrial shift (when PS used to be the default turf of JP third-parties for three decades) where the main platforms these days are Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile.
And any proper research in Japanese can tell anyone there has been a large number of role-playing console games in each generation since the 7th one, divided between portable and home consoles.
