Bethesda is lucky that current year Bethesdrones are retards. Remember how a week ago, Todd was crowing about how six million people played Starfield? That's not even sales, that's just players. Who knows how many of those are on gamepass. Starfield sold like shit and there's no dressing it up. FO4 did what, ten million on its first day? Starfield is xbox's flagship title. This is the new Halo, right? This is why MS bought Bethesda right?

What I'm getting at here is that its fucking joever. FO4 sales aside, they released three stinkers in a row. Their audience is gone. They can't ride the Skyrim wave anymore. They'll probably fail at remastering FO3 not because of any DEI/ESG bs, but because that game is held together with a fart and a dead rat and based on their showing with Starfield, they probably couldn't make it playable even if Emil formed a circle and denied God in the studio with every reddit atheist he could convince to show up in tranny central Bethesda MD. Granted, it's just a remaster but it's nothing that mods haven't done for 15 years by now and console zoomers don't have the patience to play Skyrim, let alone clunky FO3.
I genuinely hate Bethesda. I believe that Bethesda and CDPR are the biggest responsibles for normalizing the idea that a "RPG" is just a action game with perks. No skills; no attributes; no roleplay; no meaningful story choices; just perks. Most of the entire western CRPG genre is fucking garbage and I blame these two companies for it. Sometimes a Baldur's Gate 3 or Kingdom Come: Deliverance happens; but what does a exception if not prove the rule?

Bethesda will not change while Todd Howard continues to be the lead designer and Emil Pagliarulo continues to be the lead writer. Todd has no interest whatsoever in RPG systems. He has no interest in complex systems, skills, attributes, roleplaying - none of that. He wants to make linear easy action set pieces, in maps that work as tech demos for really unimpressive pieces of technology. Emil is for the game industry what Alex Kurtzman is for Hollywood; a garbage writer that keeps getting promoted despite having no writing talent whatsoever. He is incapable of writing his own name in a piece of paper without creating a plot point that a Elder Scrolls fan and a Fallout fan would hate.

My prediction for Elder Scrolls 6 is that the game will have no skills whatsoever. It will just be sections of perks of Magic, Combat and Stealth. Streamlined as fuck for the average consoomer. The story will be set (for the third time) in Hammerfell, the land of redguards. Starfield showed me that on top Emil's shit writing, Bethesda is warming up to some wokery and "girl power". So I expect a lot of BLM "we wuz kangs and sheet" for the next game.

It's never been about what people want, it's about manufacturing needs and nudging people towards what's convenient for Microsoft and other big players for people to want. They try what they want, see the reaction, and try again using the reaction to identify elements in the market they need to pay off or destroy, or public sentiments they need to mold, and alternatives they need to crush.

Much like the state since the introduction of the television, they not only make alternatives materially infeasible, they sociologically conditioning people into being unable to conceptualize alternatives. All the misconceptions taught in school and popular history, the gatekeeping of political theory and philosophy, and the endless propaganda that is nearly the entirety of entertainment, shape the mind to be unable to conceive a coherent argument defending their ability to discriminate in their own interests and in a way the state doesn't want them to.

Is it really that bad on recent PCs? When I played it years ago, all you had to do was make a tweak in an ini file to allow it to use more cores and you didn't have to sign in to Games for Windows Live to play the game, as it was only used for tracking achievements.
GOG version worked for me steam version just up and shit itself until i followed a guide to patch it.

It would HAVE to be "updated" to "be relevant to today". The NPCs would all need to have fully voiced lines, and no topic system like we used to have.
To what little you can credit them, dialogue actually regressed in Starfield to Fallout 3 menus. I don't think they'll just go a generation backwards for a new title or sequel but I wouldn't be suprised if a hypothetical remake of Morrowind would keep the dialogue if gutting the combat. [Current year] changes, sure, but I think it would be a project of them starting that, realizing the amount of work to rejigger the one part that is the easiest to keep, and just go with their usual laziness.

It’s been 10 years, and they’re still trying to make GTA Online “fun”.

They don't have to make it fun, when it is the biggest money printer in the games industry. Its the reason that so many single player games was made into open world games with a store for cosmetics, and some tagged on online play. Like fallout 76.

The thing is, a story driven game, you play and enjoy once or twice. A grinding multiplayer game people will play for thousands of hours, with the whales spending hundreds of dollars on nothing.

There's lots here I donnot like at all!

The games: The remake/DLC machine working at full force. But the one that really caught my eye was Dishonored 3. Arkane must be very desperate to make that. I know for a fact that it's going to be another Redfall/Deathloop disaster with Arkane's diversity hires laughing all the way to the back. Still, part of me hopes that they get their shit together and gather the old team one more time. If Dishonored 3 fails, I really don't see a future for Arkane.

The aquisitions: Microsoft buying Nintendo is probably the worst thing that could ever happen to videogames. It could probably get us some nice PC ports of Nintendo games, but I don't think it's worth degrading the company completely. I REALLY hope this doesn't come into fruition.

All in all, these news made me go from not really caring about Xbox to want to see them die a quick death

I know Gamefreak employees have admitted that they’re dumbing down the newest pokemon games because they need to compete against mobile gacha games for the average Japanese person’s free time, but that’s the only meaningful example that comes to mind where the success of gacha has thoroughly degraded the quality of a non-mobile game.
It's not quality, it's quantity, there's been a noticeable drop in jrpgs since the PS3 era and it's only gotten worse with every generation. From what I heard it's primarily due to Japanese consumers overwhelmingly preferring phone games to real games.

No way in hell would Nintendo be bought out by microscum. Look at MS did to Rare…

Also the Japs are very wary of foreigners buying up Japanese companies
That hasn't stopped smaller game companies like Obsidian and Doublefine from selling out to MS.

I know both companies were not in good financial shape. Doublefine was going broke making the second half of Broken Age and was only saved when someone not named Tim put the entire back catalog on Humble. Obsidian was only saved with the kickstarter for Pillars of Eternity.

I'd rather see my company go under than become an arm of MS pushing out "diverse content for modern sensibilities."

What's your opinion on GeForce Now, if you have any?
I don't. I've heard good things from other people using it on Shields, mostly at work, and I trust those guys. Personally I wouldn't use any cloud gaming service for serious use.

I didn't personally look at GFN because it was unlikely to generate a lot of internet traffic and thus nobody 'cared'. I bring this up because one reason nobody cared is nvidia isn't forward deploying servers which makes it likely you're going to see more latency than the other options especially in locations where you may not be near a big data center.

Is it though? The Japanese pc industry is booming and in the TGS thread I saw quite a few things that look down my alley. That Japanese developers stopped asuming that PS was their only platform doesn't mean they just keeled over and died, they shifted. I also imagine that without Sony pushing for localizations on what used to be defacto exclusives for them also means we just aren't getting a lot of projects outright.

The PC boom is at best at late ps4 era, definitely not ps3 era. One only needs to compare the amount of games for ps2 vs. ps3 forward. And even then most of the games would be multilplat.

That's not taking into account the PS3 being harder to develop for, the numerous hardware issues for the first 3 years, games taking more time to develop and a host of other factors that reduce the amount of JRPGs made for the PS3 compared to the PS2. I'd imagine that all of these issues have gotten more prevalent over time, so it stands to reason that that's why there's less JRPGs now then there were 15 years ago.

I have a similar prediction, and I also suspect that they're going to prune away basic shit that used to be something that every character could do and turn them into perks, much like Starfield did with stealth. Crouching for stealth and pickpocketing won't even be available unless you pick the requisite "sticky fingers" perk, or whatever. Same goes for being able to dual wield, they'll almost certainly make that into something you can only do if you pick the "dual wield one handed" perk.

They will make it so that nobody "accidentally" stumbles onto a mechanic that isn't just clicking M1 to hit the bad guy and potentially gets scared off by even the slightest hint of complexity. It'll be as retard-proof as Emil can make it, all for the sake of that "keep it simple, stupid" mantra he clings to.

MS wants to buy Nintendo:
Well that is from 2020. The Activision Blizzard purchase is what they currently they're interested in.

I'm guessing as for Warner Bros. Interactive, a few more bad box office turnouts and they can swoop in and buy the entire Warner Bros. Discovery company and get everything.

I do hate the Antichrist.

Steve Jobs was a faggot, a cunt and patently up his own ass on a lot of issues but by God was that man right about the dangers and horrors of allowing sales and marketing people to take control of companies.

Exactly what we are seeing here. These people don't like video games, they don't even fucking understand them 90% of the time outside of very specific normie examples like sportsball games and stuff like card games. They have no concept of the market and the audience they have. Hell I don't even know if most of these "people" are even human with how they act and speak in such uncomfortable corporate manners American Psycho style. There is no understanding of what the production of the products they are selling and promoting is like, nothing close to a concept. They see all of it as just a spread sheet to make the numbers go up.

I am fucking praying for a international market collapse to makes these fucking monopolies implode.

To this bolded point here; much of the suits in business/marketing don't feel the need to understand video games, beyond their shallow understanding with "something to keep those dipshit kids busy"; Most normies will even tell you to 'grow up' over it.

Remember the most unpopular apple design of the last decade? Lets copy that!

Fuck its ugly. I like my obelisk of a series x. At least we get a confirmation that Oblivion, the best ES game has not been forgotten.
The corporate singularity working it's magic and making everything beveled, sterile, primitive shapes.

Same price, no discs, no real game ownership. Oh it "saves the planet" though.
Lol, bullshit. Keep telling yourselves that somehow buying a new console is somehow less wasteful than buying discs, consoomers.
Remember when YOU got to mute the players instead of an AI overlord?
Can you explain this? (I don't play AAA games because my PC is too shit.) Can't you mute annoying wankers on voice chat any more?

Seeing as this feature is even available on multiplayer phone games, that is rather exceptional of MS.

An old joke among nerds back in the day was, "Microsoft is the only company ever named after the state of the founder's penis."

As it was then, so it is now.

this is absolutely true. my knowledge is mainly from someone I've known irl since diapers but he's a foreigner in Japan for his job and he's been telling me for years they play mobile games nonstop everywhere. which makes sense to me based on their public transit systems no wonder over there every handheld was huge with people who played video games not just kids like mostly it was here in the us. and with a phone you skip the middle man and just your daily driver device you can play your shit on, its just a shame that by default they're locked into micro transaction faggotry and not "real games"

on another note, I think Microsoft will never buy Nintendo bc Nintendo wouldn't let them but I honestly think if they did going forward absolutely dick would change besides pc Nintendo ports. I think personally Nintendo would probably screw them with weird clauses forcing them to still release their consoles with all their IP exclusive besides a random here or there cross console game or 2 years later pc ports. And Xbox would still as a brand be fucked. maybe that wouldn't fly bc of monopoly shit so there'd only be one console but I think Microsoft would say fuck it and be making Nintendo branded XBOXs at that point and Nintendo games would still be a generation behind graphically. And if not that at best, at worst MS would fuck up Nintendo so much with western sensibilities in just how it's ran and operates that we'd see the death of a video game empire stretching to my dad's school days to now with Nintendo going completely under because of dumbass corporate changes. I already think they're an evil corporation too but MS looks like niggers playing tribal drums compared to a symphony in comparison to the profit percentages despite the capital difference or even just brand recognition and loyalty.

Playing mobile games doesn't exclude from playing games on other platforms, only fanboys believe of platform loyalism that way.

And you admit to use your non-Japanese friend viewing things from the workplace/transits as a frame of reference that (esp. home) consoles are dead there, which is silly.
Despite we have Famitsu & Media Creates hard data to prove console gaming still remains as popular amongst the Japanese populace as things were in the 2000's, if not considerably stronger than before thanks to digital distribution. It's a combination of game development taking longer the more powerful the hardware is (to aim for high fidelity graphics), large companies (such as Squeenix) making retarded decisions and finally Playstation currently dying over there, thus prompting to an undergoing massive industrial shift (when PS used to be the default turf of JP third-parties for three decades) where the main platforms these days are Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile.

And any proper research in Japanese can tell anyone there has been a large number of role-playing console games in each generation since the 7th one, divided between portable and home consoles.
