Phil got a $1k tip tonight. It'll be interesting to see if DownFromTheRafters suddenly starts whaling again after being fairly quiet these past couple days...to celebrate his friend Phil's good fortune, of course. For the first time in THREE YEARS, he didn't log in for a day, but you can bet he's logging in with a vengeance tonight to blow that $1,000 like it's burning a hole in his pocket.

Why isnt his profile getting updated? I open it on my pc browser and it says it was refreshed 7 days ago.

It's not just you and it's not just Phil's profile or guild. I poked around on my PC + phone and the profiles were all last active 7-plus days ago, even if they were entirely unrelated to Phil.

As much as I love busting out my tinfoil hat this looks way more like a mistake or quiet discontinuation of support on Scopely's end than an attempt to protect anyone.

@BT9494, can you elaborate on money that might have been expended here?

If it is like the old showdown contests, then probably not that much. The people that used to excel in those events already have all the bonus points characters from pulls.

Now, you could certainly make the case that he had to spend a lot of money in previous months in order to do well in this event.

I assume they fucked up the website tracking when they did the update. In game if you look at him, it says he was online a day ago.

Very interesting. Perhaps logging for everything is just fucked after the update?
Maybe, but in your screenshot he's still at 2.64m so for some reason it didn't update at all, it's not just the last online that's failing.
However we're talking about Scopely, glitches are the norm.
Even after following this thread for a year I still don't understand what that means. Does it indicate money spent?
Talent is a measure of how good the wrestler is, and you can increase this number by leveling them up in several ways. In this website you can mess around with a character’s level/stars/moves to see how much the talent increases:
https://wwe-champions.guide/wrestlers/the-rock-the-peoples-champ.html

The long story short is that you can spend coins, training points, shards, tokens, in game "cash" to get more of those, and some other things to further increase the talent. All of this can be earned in a very limited way and with a lot of patience without spending real money, but at the pace DSP is going he needs to be wasting a lot of $$$ to get all of those things fast, and access high tier rewards.

It’s difficult to know how much exactly, but you can look at the screenshots of the Scopely Champions store to get an idea. The problem is that in theory he can stack up on all of that over time then use all at once on a low level character, so you wouldn’t be able to know exactly when he spent the money.

Consider also that you can spend in other ways that won't reflect in his profile, like health packs, or betting on a chest and get nothing out of it.

It's a metric for how much he has played and how strong his roster is. So yes, more talent generally means more money spent but there is not a simple conversion factor between talent and dollars.

EDIT:

As in they're getting ready to pull the plug on the game? That would be hilarious right now.

No just on that tracking website - believe me I'd be much more cautious about making that statement and a hell of a lot happier if I were confident they really were closing it down. There are videos about the psychology of these games and one of the takeaways I had is that the companies keep extremely close tabs on player behavior. If the website is not getting much traffic or the traffic it does get does not line up well with those big limited-time events then it may not be worth updating anymore.

If and when WWE Champions is shut down it will be because it is no longer profitable. Phil's spending on there is fascinating from a 'tism vortex/watch gambling addiction in real time standpoint but we just do not have the information necessary to see how much the game is bringing in and I am not sure there is a way to get it without a mole in Scopely's accounting department.

@ReentryPhantom
That doesn't look accurate, it tells me he was online 3 hours ago, and I looked it about 15-20 minutes ago.

He also went up by over 15000 in talent since the last screenshot I posted

He's still going up about half a level per day just like he has been this whole time.

He had about 2/5ths of the XP on the way from 488 to 489 in your last screenshot of his profile and now he has a sliver left before 489.

He's still playing like 150 matches per day, even if the other UI metrics aren't updating correctly you can still see that he's playing exactly the same amount as he has been.

Frankly, a part of me just refuses to believe that Phil is spending that much money on this, when he's in this current situation.

I suppose I just don't understand how terrible gambling addiction can be, but... Yeah. If y'all have any documentaries or articles about gambling addiction, I'd appreciate it.
You know the scene in Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd goes to get "just the bare essentials" and it cuts to him carrying cases of beer, a giant foam sombrero, a paddleball, a few pinwheels, and then stops to get a copy of Rhode island slut?

Phil is the real world version of that.

He's made more money this week than he has in any other week for a long time and he didn't even have to wait for Twitch to give it to him.
