Good thing DSP doesn't have to worry about this problem (his whales certainly will though). This update is clearly aimed to keep whales spending and literally invested in the game just like how MMO's make content catered specifically to people who have maxed or close to maxed accounts

It's just funny to see people who have put up with all of Scopely's shit deciding that this is what will push them off the game. Allegedly.

We know Phil needs to keep up with EVERYTHING in this game, and he will likely be frustrated if he doesn't have the materials needed to get all his Hogans to 6 stars. I don't think this'll make him realize how futile it is to keep spending on this game when there's always another level of power creep to make everything he has outdated, because what else is he going to throw his tips money away on?

Their mistake is thinking they're the customers. They're not. People like phil are. They're just around as entertainment for the whales. In a normal p2w game it would be by crushing them under foot with lEEt gear. In champions .......uh I guess its just looking up the stats for normal people and fapping yourself to orgasm how much better your collection of jpegs are since theres no real multiplayer I believe.
 
There's always people complaining about Scopely's practices and about Champions specifically. When I was looking around in Discord servers I remember players being really upset with it, and at best making sarcastic comments... yet they keep playing.

They see the amount of resources you need to upgrade your characters, they see how pay-to-win OP wrestlers melt the others in matches, and the obvious path the company is taking. Who could have imagined that they would introduce 6 stars?
Were they hoping that they wouldn't, or were they just waiting on it so that they can complain?

I wonder if this will actually put Scopely under pressure for once, although I doubt it because it's the same story yet again.
"Is this how you're going to treat your player base", how many times has that been said, they're delusional.

And I really think that for some, what holds them back is the sunk-cost aspect of it, but now with the 6 star system as a big fuck you to everyone it could mean that Champions is near its death.
I at least expect them to milk the silver and gold stars on that level for all that it's worth, if they actually get to the 7th star without completely killing their game and without making significant changes to help low level players, it'll be impressive.

The appeal of wrestling to boomers (amongst others) should not be underestimated, just like gachas with anime girls, exploiting others has never been easier and lazier, barring findom.
 
Scopely was smart, they'd learned from the progenitors of microtransactions the modern MMO. You put in a social aspect, sunk cost fallacy, and a competitive aspect and you can keep those poor souls there for eternity paying in to keep hanging out with the friends they've made who are also paying in and making them feel like to be helpful to their friends you have to keep on the cutting edge of play while giving them others to compete against to feel that fleeting sense of accomplishment taking down the "other" and keep it all on a nice treadmill of freemium content. They'll complain, threaten to quit, but best that will happen is a small trickle as people find somewhere else that gives them more dopamine/serotonin.

I don’t think the whales are playing to be “competitive” anyway, they’re playing to win and that’s where the real money is made.

It’s good to have the small fish feel like it’s competitive like you said but that’s all smoke and mirrors for the real money makers.

Phil has an over 99% winrate, he’s never challenged and that’s the way he wants it. I imagine when he spends $1000s in a day, it’s when he loses a match and his ego cannot handle it and he buys more and more. I bet he was broken the day his discord/line was discovered and he couldn’t flex on the poorer whales in his faction anymore.

The game and alcohol has pretty much fucked him up completely. Dopamine fried to the point he's begging on all his streams and playing the most baby bitch story games.

It's poetic the game he's kept hidden is secretly fuckin him harder after he fucked up his fans with his bullshit lies for years.

I thought the whole point of Champions was to PvP? Use your cards for multipliers or whatever and play match-3 and whoever gets the highest score in the set timeframe wins?

Are you telling me that Champions is PvE only? That has to be a joke

My understanding is that "PvP" means you go up against an AI-controlled opponent with a team or whatever that your opponent has set up. So yes, basically PvE for someone like Phil.

And beating these “people” is what fuels the addiction, which is what makes it even more pathetic.

In Secret Limiteds video you can see he downloaded multiple match 3’s on his console trying to kick the mobile gaming, see how that worked out :stress:

If he couldn’t “win” against them he wouldn’t play it, if he couldn’t pay his way to win he wouldn’t play it. So naturally his narc brain says dump everything you own into it and you can be King of the Sweaty Man JPEGs!

This game is the only thing that gives Phil the ego boost he needs, how he escapes the fact he’s funded by a handful of whales that could leave any day (they won’t but they could die :optimistic:), his fat ‘wife’ who doesn’t like him, a cat who hates him, and a severe dependence on alcohol.

When his parents pass away Scopely are going to be very happy.
