Wuthering Waves.

A game developed by Kuro Games, a studio that brought the game "PUNISHING GRAY RAVEN" which basically runs like Honkai Impact 3rd but better. in terms of combat, difficulty and animation of characters.

Wuthering Waves, is an open world gacha game similar to Genshin Impact
- You are somewhat alien to your world
- You meet a colorful cast of characters
- You uncover the mystery behind the world and/or your past

But what differs is:
- Adult-like characters make up most of the cast and not just kids and teenagers.
- In Genshin your protagonist is established as a retarded observer that only does things slightly relevant but overall credit goes to other characters. In Wuthering Waves you take the spotlight and also share the spotlight with other characters
- The tone and themes of the world are less exclusively written for children
- Story progression is faster, and dialogues and lore isnt padded out to be 14 hours long, but can be done in 2-3 hours (BUT WITH MORE CONTENT)
- Facial expressions exist.
- WUTHERING WAVES CHARACTERS ALL HAVE ACCENTS AND ARE NOT JUST AMERICAN VOICE.

While initially the game launched quite badly, and version 1.0 is just downright terrible experience for most people
What makes the game different is that they listen to feedback and improved the game with alot of better quality of life experience and also not being as Money Hungry as Genshin Impact.

There is 50/50 in Character Banners
but weapon banners are 100% Guarantee, no chance of you getting a different weapon option instead.
And only 2 Characters ingame that are 5* is considered Trash. Lingyang and Calcharo. both of which being STANDARD BANNER characters.
whereas despite new releases, alot of old characters and most of standard banner characters are still quite exceptional in clearing content with ease. (an issue Genshin have since most 5* units become complete garbage or powercrept in 1 or 2 years)

What makes Wuthering Waves great aside from the story, OST, maps and adventures.
is the amount of Copium and Deepseated rage Genshin stans have against the game, and would sperg out at any former Genshin content creators to who try Wuthering Waves and enjoy their experience.

The community is rife with memes and brainrot memes such as the "Camellya brainrot"

Also Kuro Games have announced with CD PROJEKT RED they are doing a Cyberpunk 2077 Collab in 2026
Because the next region for Wuthering Waves is a Futuristic Cyberpunk-ish city
and with 2.0 regions being introduced with a flying/gliding mechanic
maybe 3.0 regions will have a vehicle mechanic.

Ah. I forgot to mention
with Version 1.0 being bad, the first region, will have really bad voice actors

Lingyang, Yangyang and a few characters have the most painful voice actors to listen to

But the story will pick up and the pace will move considerably faster.
and you will meet a character which most if not all Wuthering Waves players are attached to.

How wallet friendly is it? Lupa has your boy in a CHOKEHOLD, but alas my wallet belongs to Umamusume Pretty Derby Japan and Global.

Starter accounts you get 2 selector banners
1 for the standard banner
1 for character you want, so u can have like 2-3 5* headstart

80 is hard pity on pulls, but by the time u reach the 2nd region you'd have enough to get the unit you want.
Though right now its Phrolova banner, im unsure if Lupa is added in the "Headstart" banner. Hopefully she is.

MAN SHE IS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD.
im kinda regretting skipping her banner.

EDIT:

LUPA, from Wuthering Waves.
incase you all wonder who ChristianKiwi is talking about.

No need for a thread. People talk about WuWa in the Genshin thread.
really forgot to ping a mod to change the title to generic gatcha degenerates

I hate all these gacha anime games and have never been hooked by them, how do people get drawn in?
different people having different tastes, it's free and most other games with those production values are western dogshit?

lupa banner just ended (but re-run should be pretty fast).
even as f2p you should get around enough for a 5* each patch (iirc last patch was 110 rolls or so, pity is 80)

What do you feel is the problem with having different threads for different games? Are the forums approaching the thread count limit?
This isn't the first time someone has made a thread of the same subject. They just tend to die very quickly and most people that already play Genshin or any other Mihoyo game play WuWa. Since Genshin's thread moves slowly, people just started talking about other gachas there.

I just recently decided to give it a shot out of boredom. Was surprised by all the QoL features that Genshin should've had by now, but developers are too stubborn to implement.
You're being somewhat disingenuous on the kid characters part, because there's a fair amount of them. You meet Verina early in the story and then Encore, who actually simps for the main character.

WuWa has comprehensive dodge mechanic that actually works, unlike Genshin where it's merely an afterthought. Ample stamina in combat, and no stamina use in exploration + no gay Zelda climbing but quickly running up the walls.
They clearly see where their competition is failing and making full use of that, which is great.

All that said, I'm not particularly interested in its world even after having played through all of the available main story content. Genshin does world building much better, while WuWa feels like it's trying too hard to imitate it and ends up being shallow in the end.
I've read too much mediocre manhwa to not see one in WuWa. Fuck Genshin devs though, I hope WuWa does well.

ZZZ is still my favorite, it has excellent combat system and isn't overbearing in its pace of content and gameplay (I'm also experiencing open world fatigue).

I kinda sleepwalked through Black Shore arc lol
Shorekeeper's servile attitude toward MC is kinda creepy to me.

wuwa 1.0 was very obviously inspired, but I'd say with the 2.0 soft "relaunch" they moved beyond that. even overworld doesn't work like genshin anymore and the focus is more on minigames/events. story after 2.0 is also a vast improvement for most people, with 2.2 and 2.4 being peak af.

designated waifu, especially in terms of lore. but most 2.x chars aren't like that, some don't even simp for rover.
but it is still a waifu collector at the end of the day.

Is this kind of like Infinity Nikki? If it doesn't have dress-up, I don't care.
more combat oriented, less about fashion. that disney game might be worth a look (unironically).

Rinascita was super easy to explore and 100% without any shitty interactive maps, I loved that.
