To be fair, whenever a place gets a few coof cases they make everyone wear masks. It's a reactive thing.
And let's also not forget that even according to "the rules" a mask doesn't protect you from just touching mucous membranes with unwashed or contaminated glove-covered hands. Or from touching your own permeable cloth piece of shit.

Wouldn't it be funny if the mask sperging by government officials actually was distracting people from basic bitch "don't get sick during flu season" advice which applies to covid as well.

I feel more unhealthy wearing a stupid face covering than without one. I hate "mask breath". Throat can feel like crap hours after.

I hope the jerks who started these muzzle mandates get voted out.

did traindodger get threadbanned and got a new account or what is up with that retarded doomposting?
at least he did put in some effort into it.

To this day, every time I see a wall of science ITT about Corona I have to scroll up to see if ol' Todger is back.

Our governor is trying to tighten the screws on Massachusetts again.

Baker you traitorous RINO, you know full well what you're doing one day before the 2020 election. I hope when Trump wins, your ass is grass before 2022.
Charlie Baker is about as right wing as an elected politician can be in Massachusetts even though in most states of the country he'd be a Democrat.
No one had even thought of using lockdowns to control a viral pandemic, closing an entire economy, before the Chinese did it with with Wuhan.

According to the official narrative some time in September or October 2019 a Chinaman ate a bat from the Wuhan wet market and caught the coof. By late December it had spread quickly with patients showing up in hospitals suffering from an aggressive pneumonia. In early Jan it was determined that a novel Zoonopic virus had appeared. By late January the CCP hit the panic button and put first Wuhan and then the entire country of 1.3 billion people, into a lockdown. All but vital industries closed. All schools and universities closed. All travel banned. People not allowed to leave their house without a mask and even then only to go food shopping and the like. The CCP then reported the lockdowns as an amazing success with complete eradication of the virus in mainland China.
Lockdowns had been proposed in the past like by Dr. Ferguson who demanded it for swine flu back in 2009, but he was ignored back then. It's definitely something which public health officials had been thinking of for a very long time in how to control a pandemic and slow it's spread and we finally had a seemingly dangerous pandemic to test it on. The argument "if it's not dangerous, why would China lock down their cities?" is pretty dumb since this was a novel SARS analogue disease and no one in China knew the actual death rate in January. Not to mention the way Chinese politics works practically rewards this sort of behavior. It's highly like that Chairman Pooh had no idea what the hell was going on in Wuhan because everyone reporting to him about it was lying out their ass, and it's just as likely that the Wuhan and Hubei officials likewise had no idea and/or deliberatly ignored it because it would make them look bad. Those party officials in Wuhan and Hubei knew well that they could be arrested and serve lengthy sentences for corruption, mismanagement, and all sorts of charges for letting a pandemic start and spread in their province so you can't blame them for a heavy response once the news started spreading. Therefore they had to do this to save their own careers and freedom.

I don't blame Italy for following them either because in February still not much was known but by March or so enough good data was coming out that China was lying and that lockdowns are utterly disproportionate for controlling the spread of a disease with that low of a death rate. That's when it should've totally stopped and replaced with less strict measures in only the worst cases like in New York City (which should've stopped when hospital capacity got back to normal). Why did it continue? We know the answer, because politicians are too concerned about looking tough to further their political career. But it's a little more silly in the western world since unlike China, the central party can't just fire your ass at a moment's notice and lock you in jail after a show trial for "corruption" or "mismanagement."

I hope it will end up counterproductive for many of these politicians and they'll wind up primaried, voted out, and tarred for life as "the guy who trashed our economy and unleashed a year of misery on us" but there's enough weak politicians and local/state branches of political parties out there that most will tragically remain in office even though there's wonderful opportunities for anyone looking to run for office in 2021-2022.
And let's also not forget that even according to "the rules" a mask doesn't protect you from just touching mucous membranes with unwashed or contaminated glove-covered hands. Or from touching your own permeable cloth piece of shit.
What really gets me is why the hell do they expect people to properly wear a mask when the average person does nasty shit like cough or sneeze into their hands or not even cover their cough/sneeze. It's not hard at all to just cough/sneeze into your arm. Yet somehow they expect people to properly wear a facemask, over their nose, not pull it down whenever they talk or get uncomfortable, and dispose of it properly every few hours without touching their face. Unsurprisingly I rarely see people properly wearing masks and so many people break every single rule when wearing it. Your public health measure is defeated by basic human stupidity.

This is a common theme with these technocrats in that they never account for human nature. These people use shitty models and are inflexible as hell when the human nature issue comes up. You see this with everything from the economy, immigration, climate change, all sorts of stuff, and it's the exact same reason every single communist country has either collapsed or reformed. Ivan in his office in Moscow and his friends at the central planning office don't know that Vladimir in Vladivostok isn't actually a good, hardworking man interested in building a socialist paradise like every Soviet citizen is assumed to be but instead just wants to sit around and drink vodka all day and rarely shows up to work in the factory he's assigned to.

Looking at how things are now here's how I think things will go in Australia dependent on who wins the US election because it holds great influence even in foreign countries.

Biden victory: Things will start to reopen over the summer, travel restrictions, crowd restrictions and border closures will be lifted for a brief respite for about a month or so. Soon after this we'll be seeing a report of out of control cases emerging in Queensland, it will be blamed on the easing of restrictions and allowing tourism in the summer and all that jazz and all the states will turtle up again. QLD will be subject to Victorian-esque restrictions on with the 5km rule, masks everywhere, everything closed etc. and we will continue on in a state of perpetual rolling lockdowns until people have forgotten what life was like beforehand.

Trump victory: The state governments will start to panic and try to delay the reopening that is sort of going on now, they'll come up with excuse after excuse to not open the borders, to not increase capacity in places, to not remove mask mandates in the case of VIC and drag it on into December. The federal government, who has constantly expressed its disdain for the measures still being in place will be emboldened by having the support of big daddy America to go to bat for them and will try to strongarm the states into reopening for good. I'm not sure if they'd be able to pull it off but I reckon that if they threaten to cut federal funding like they did with the states who didn't want to ban the guns in 96 they'll quickly fall in line. Except for possibly the traitors in the west who will use it as an opportunity to play out their gay secessionist fantasies and Victoria where Dan Andrews will try to go it alone and subsist off of the Chinese Belt and Road money as well as all the funding here gets from the WEF and the Strong Cities program.

On the news this morning, evidently the CDC is recommending that people wear face masks INDOORS when in the vicinity of their family members. This has gone too fucking far, man.

If only more people read this article stating that over 70 percent of people who contracted Covid wore masks and socially distanced themselves.

Get out there and vote like your way of life depends on it, because it does.

Lockdowns had been proposed in the past like by Dr. Ferguson who demanded it for swine flu back in 2009, but he was ignored back then.
Yes it's interesting comparing Swine Flu and Covid

In spring 2009, a new strain of the H1N1 virus that became known as "swine flu" began circulating in the United States. On June 11, the World Health Organization declared the virus a pandemic.

From April 12, 2009, to April 10, 2010, the virus infected more than 60 million people in the U.S., according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC estimates show those infections resulted in about 274,000 hospitalizations and 12,500 deaths, or a fatality rate of 0.02% among cases. The CDC estimates that 151,700 to 575,400 people died from that flu worldwide. The swine flu affected predominately children and young- to middle-aged adults: According to the CDC, 80% of deaths worldwide were in people under 65.

That quote is from USA Today, shitting on the 'conspiracy theory' that swine flu was as bad as the coof but we didn't have lockdowns for that.

This is the old rhetorical trick of comparing apples and bananas. What would the 'death rate' of the swine flu have been if we used the same criteria we're using now with Covid? Mass testing of millions every week. Anyone who tests positive and who goes on to die for any reason is considered a 'swine flu' death?

Swine flu was probably more deadly than the coof. I remember catching it back then and it was horrendous. I had a mild pneumonia that I couldn't shake for weeks and was left with a bronchial cough for months after. I was 22 years old and doing hard 10 mile runs daily. Give me the coof anytime compared to that.

CDC before 2020 = just some government agency

CDC in 2020 = a crazy clown cabal who made life more hellish

(All the businesses around here have BS "temporary" coronapanic measures in place because "the CDC said so".)

Swine flu hit the young hard, like a kid in my class caught it over Christmas break and was insanely sick and had to go to the hospital. And I guarantee it killed more infants than coronavirus which essentially kills no one under 30. I think a disease which kills the young like that is far worse than one which kills the elderly. Why should we trust THE SCIENCE on this when we were told it was a deadly pandemic by the WHO's decree and compared to the bird flu which was hyped in years prior, yet there wasn't a single mask order or lockdown and barely anyone died?

I remember the year swine flu broke out I went on vacation to San Diego, right next to the border, and the only reminder there was a deadly pandemic going around was extra hand sanitizer in the airport and signs reminding idiots to sneeze and cough into their elbows and not their hands or the open air.

I remember swine flu hitting when I was in elementary. We didn't get to go on any field trips that year as a precaution, but that's all I remember doing.

Yeah you'd think an illness that affects the youth more would be treated as serious as this one is...

swine flu
If this wasn't Current Year Clown World, COVID-19 would likely have gone the same way: you may hear about it on the internet or news in passing, but life would've been business as usual.

But this is Clown World and an election year, so it's a "DEADLY UNKNOWN GRANDMA KILLING SUPERPLAGUE WEAR A MUZZLE SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING STAY HOME AND SAVE LIVES" endless circus of insanity.

Could be a reporting artefact, but sweden's daily cases just dropped off a cliff. Their deaths are also in the 1s and 2s.

I've noticed they have a gap of apparently no deaths for a few days, then a biggish number (say 9 or 10) all at once, that sticks around for a couple of days and then disappears as it's redistributed over the previous week. I find that interesting. It makes me suspect that other countries aren't reporting so honestly, so death reports are getting doubled up in the stats. Watching UK numbers for instance, it looks like each day with a big number keeps that number, but then the deaths are spread out over the prior days as well. That's just an eyeball and a gut feeling though, as it's not something that can easily be tracked by someone like me.

literally none of these links have anything to do with neural pathway infections you mong. did you fail reading comprehension?
The reason colds make one feel "tired" or "unlert" is because they are fucking with the central nervous system
Can literally kill kids via brain infection
Literally OC43 can target neural pathways

News Flash: Viruses can cause damage.

You do not have to be a scientist to understand the simple concept that "It can =/= It will". This is further confounded by the fact that infection of a given tissue or organ does not mean inherent damage to that tissue or organ.
The severity of the infection is almost always an indicator of the likelihood of lasting damage, such that more severe infections (e.g. almost dying) are the primary, overwhelming majority of cases which leave "lasting" damage (even then, lasting =/= permanent).

Every so often this thread gets a new doomposter parroting the fear-porn elsewhere, and like clockwork always retreat to "muh long turm damige!", and sure as a salamander in a mountain stream, every fucking "long term" symptom has been recorded in other widespread viruses that the world doesn't stop turning for. Before you it was lung scaring, and before that heart complications, and before that never-ending doom fatigue - but sure enough as the months tick by the world-ending plague that was promised will continue to turn out to be a less and less deadly than we were warned of.

Yeah you'd think an illness that affects the youth more would be treated as serious as this one is.
That would be the case if the youth ran the country.

alright, think what you want then lol

Most places in the US at least are counting deaths on the days that they were reported, not the days that they actually occured. So not only is there a lag on a day-to-day basis, but deaths from weeks/months ago are probably still cropping up in the numbers as well.

So "experts" and politicians are losing their fucking minds over delayed data.

Their incompetence would be slightly amusing if they weren't directly making our lives worse.

Okay so these are a thing that's apparently healthy and acceptable now and totally saving lives and not murdering grandma:

View attachment 1682226

I've seen a few people actually wearing them. They do absolutely nothing.

Seriously why even bother at that point? This whole coof thing just keeps getting dumber.

Its a boiling frogs situation, they are seeing just how far we can stand before we.fucking. SNAP.
Tho honestly, the dummy looks smarter than your average leftist. It has an excuse not to think, not having a brain and all, whats their excuse?
Bit of a powerlevel but I'm pissed so fuck it.

Tomorrow was supposed to be a celebration of my niece's 2nd birthday, with me, my folks and other members of the family all gathering to have a nice party. But literally the fucking day before it was supposed to happen apparently the ex wife of my brother in law (who's a complete bitch btw) brought up that her boyfriend "has a fever" which means the step-kids (who live with the ex because of course) might have whatever and so the entire thing was called off at the very last minute because it might be the super scary coof.

Fuck China, fuck the elites, fuck the governments, fuck the compliant public, fuck this gay-ass dystopian Earth, FUCK EVERYTHING.

Well, my friend, Im losing one of my family business slowly but surely unless things somehow improve quickly but I doubt fate will be so kind to me. Things werent amazing for a while but we were able to at least pay the bills, our focus was clearly on branching our pizzaria brand now, but still...it holds a special place in our hearts.

Illegal aliens ruined us but covid is slowly choking us to death while people just watch with glee.

>Scientists will have figured out how to keep you healthy in space.
Nah, I doubt they'll have figured out how to successfully recreate artificial gravity anytime soon
This rock's all we got at the rate we're going, the amount of innovation that's taken place in the last 20 years is abysmal
What it requires to keep a body healthy in space is mindnumbingly complicated, from the pressure in our eyes to our entire circulatory system, habitation of space itself is pure science fiction, you go up for a time, then get grounded.

That is pretty rich about owning nothing and renting everything, like that isn't what people have been doing this entire time.

The funny thing is that we havent progressed as much in the last decade than we had in previous decades. It feels like we sort have been hitting a slow phase in technological developtment, not to say we arent doing progress but it really feels that we should have already reached Mars by now if we kept the same rate we had during the cold war. Feels like what the 2000's began, outside of some speicific developtments, we just kind grinded things to hault.

I got many theories as to why that is but I can give a TL;DR version

1- We lack an "arms race" of sort like we had. Without an enemy/competition forcing our scientists to progress like they never did before we kind of achieve things frighteningly slower.
2- People are just showing less and less interest in leaving Earth and exploring the stars. Less people are becoming scientists and the one that do arent as qualified as the good old days. Most scientists back then were worth 10 modern scientists. If those guys were still alive, we would have been to Mars for a few years by now. People keep focusing on petty shit instead of trying to unlock the hidden potentials of science hidden in the cosmos and within ourselves.

I'm angry pretty much every waking moment of my day.

The only thing that keeps me from going full glow nigger on these smug bug people is the hurt it would cause my loved ones.

You describe me in a nutshell. Im utterly miserable everytime I leave my home and see nearly everyone with a diaper on their faces. All paying for a crime they didnt not commit. An original sin.

My mother keeps telling me to keep calm but fuck...she lived a good chunk of her life in a world that makes sense, I am stuck with a world that not only doesnt make sense but seems to ooze insanity while the people responsible for it mocks up in front of the bars...

I was a rather calm and optimistic person (for this site's standards that is), this year has absolutely destroyed me and there are moments I feel borderline doomer ish (tho Im able to bounce back from it).

I just want this nightmare to fucking end.
Norway just reported no flu outbreaks since may.

Health officials state they think the covid measures is keeping the flu away. The public is not convinced.

Whats more probable?

Covid SOMEHOW Broly-ed all life threatening viruses, syndromes, cancers, conditions in existance for total supremace over human kind's death causes......!!

or that the officials and experts are all lying sacks of shit that deserve to get necked?

Really love that I'm paying the same amount for tuition despite getting like 1/3rd of the experience that I would've gotten without COVID.

i.e. I have an acting class this semester and if I got a dollar for every time I heard "Normally I would teach this, spend more time on this, do this but because of restrictions..." I'd probably be able to buy everything in the campus bookstore.

Tell me about it, keeping the college experience this year has been a complete nightmare. We gotta keep doing these online classes where you learn nearly nothing while still paying the same amount.
Its humiliating.

Honestly at this point I can totally see myself withdrawing for the foreseeable future because of this.
