First day of lockdown in Malaysia, and people are surprisingly calm about things. That said, there's a lot of confusion and contradictory directives being issued, which led to a mass exodus to the countryside as schools and workplaces close. (lol)

New government doing as well as expected; ie. being an utterly spastic child.
Ah~ you guys have a new government too? Belgium as well. it's a total mess. We didn't even vote for these fuckers.

It's officially a boomer virus:

Ukraine:
Our government, in their infinite wisdom, have closed metro systems in three major cities, without preparing an alternative and issuing a rule that "no more than 10 people shall ride any given bus/trolleybus/tram and they have to do it in masks".

Today, all the buses were filled up to the brim. Fuck me, I spoke too soon about being in "the best plague ward". Hey, at least I got to work relatively quickly.

I so need to buy a car.

Yep. Same deal, in fact.

Short story short: a faction of one of the ruling coalition decided he wasn't getting enough power, so swung over to the other side, and plunged the country into a two-week deadlock while everyone searched for a new majority. In the midst of the corona outbreak.

Now the new government belatedly trying to contain everything but it's probably far, far too late and both the measures taken and the impact from the outbreak itself will be enormously crippling. There's probably some form of cosmic irony in that they'll probably take most of the blame for this escalating situation.

So we may likely be infected - traveled last week, now have symptoms, including fevers (not that bad, truly) BUT we do not meet the criteria for testing unless we get hospitalized for our respiratory symptoms. So it kind of seems like they are just not testing people to keep the reported numbers lower.

What country are you in?

Pressing F for you guys. It was never meant to be avoided. Only delayed. Everyone will taste the lips of Corona-chan.

My boomer parent was hellbent on getting sandwich supplies yesterday so I ran to the local Winco at 5am only to find it closed until 7 for cleaning.. with a line outside, in 50 degree rain. Came back at 7 and even with the doors open the line extended down the entire length of the strip mall the winco is housed in (~2500') Even black friday lines had nothing on this. I can only imagine how bad it's going to be once we get into the real shortage.

I didn't wait at plague central for over an hour to get some bread. I just baked some instead, it probably took the same amount of time.

IP is gay and should be abolished. No it doesn't protect creativity or whatever, it's a hindrance to the advancement of humanity.
Sadly we live in cronyism where the state is effectively owned and ran by the biggest shitty corporations. There's big oil, big pharmaceuticals, big banks blahblah. They get to reap the fruits of capitalism while their losses are covered by socialism aka grubbed tax cash.

Good on these people. 3D print the shit out of those stupid $11,000 plastic junk.
I think rather than purely getting rid of IP protection, a better system might be a royalty system where anyone can produce the product, but does have to pay a percentage of income from that item to the original inventor. Keeps people from price gouging, but also allows the inventing entity to recoup its R&D expenditure. This is especially relevant with medical IPs since R&D can cost billions of dollars, but at the same time it's incredibly easy to gouge since a lot of the products produced are actual needs rather than simple wants.

Notably, three of the new cases are now in critical care at local hospitals -- including some patients in their 20s and 30s with no underlying medical conditions.

Kazakh update: it's not getting any better
Total cases up to 36. Also, state of emergency has been declared.
A plane from Nur-Sultan just landed in Karaganda. 67 passengers on board, all quarantined.
As for myself: now that yesterday's initial shock has passed, I'm feeling a lot more calm now. As long as Corona-Chan doesn't dance her way over to my city, I should be fine. But knowing my luck, that's exactly what's gonna happen.

I'd like to salute these 2 Italian dudes. Free market wins this round.
So the worst areas in Italy has a death rate of 10%, wew.
Now excuse my use of non-technical language, I know shit about medical stuff.
So the breathing respirators has some kind of disposable air valve that's being used up and the hospital ran out.
Supplier said they can't supply the valves in a timely manner.
So two young entrepreneurs, Racassi and Ramaioli came to help. They made 3D models and printed a bunch. $1 each, opposed to $11,000 from the supplier.

Breathing respirator is now triggered, said they will no longer provide 3D models, wants them to stop, and said they will seek legal revenge, sue them for breach of intellectual property.
Fuck your IP and your overpriced stupid $11,000 plastic shit.

So something is lost in translation, the two guys asked for blueprints which the company told them to go fuck themselves, and they measured the valve anyway to create replicas.

$11,000 for this.
No wonder jobs are going to China and now SEAnigs/Poos.

I do actually think 3D printing is the future and should become a part of most households. It's also better than Asian slaves and shitty plastics.

From what I understood from listening to the radio on the subject, the 3D printed parts will wear out a lot lot faster and aren't necessarily "food safe" or medical grade. Meaning they'll break a lot quicker, and may result in some plastic getting in the system.

But if your choice is between a manufacturer who won't fill their fucking orders, or $1 you keep replacing that shit to keep Grandpa Giuseppe alive then you know which choice the hospitals are going for.

============================

In glorious other news. London is likely to go on lockdown as it pretty much is "the" hotspot for Coronachan in the whole of the UK, while numbers remain more manageable (for the time being) for the rest of the country.

If the supplier cant provide and were in a once in a century problem it would be best for the supplier to say something to the effect of "we dont endore the use of these parts blah blah blah we take no responisbility blah blah"

Ah, thanks for reminding me Kazakhstan exists. I have been lookin into central asian cusines as of late and now im officially in the bunker stage I am thinkin of trying a bunch of recipes from that general area in the coming days. Gonna start with this nice looking Uzbek Plov recipe I found and then maybe do those fried doughnutty things that seem ubiquitous from mongolia to ukraine
