It's probably not the deaths that drove that decision to be made, it's the inability of hospitals to accommodate thousands or, God forbid for them, millions more infected if quarantines aren't put in place. No beds, a horrible medical worker-to-patient ratio, and dwindling supplies are enough to spook the CCP to enact draconian measures, even before we start thinking about how many deaths are actually caused by the virus. I suspect it's even worse for rural areas without access to hospitals in the area.

P.S. I know the post "Highlight" system is derived algorithmically, but is there a way for mods to manually tick certain posts as Highlighted? There are some posts that contain content and videos that are archived here that doesn't get enough ratings to get the Highlight tag. Would be great if those posts can also be manually-marked so other people new to the thread don't inadvertently skip those posts. Okay, so I was wondering when this would be seriously considered. Apple unlike other buyers of Foxconn goods does something that is expensive, but pays off in the end. So, when they introduced friction welding (mass market not the first to ever do it) they paid for ~75% of the machine to have exclusive use of it for 2 years and a reduced rate for 3 after.

They do this with basically all of their machines and have their own inspector for quality control(jfc try having the chinks make you something to sell the first batch might be okay anyways), making sure no one under 18 is working there, and crack down super hard on leaks. Iirc, something leaked from Foxconn? Welp, huge fine so our shit is cheaper now fuck you.

Basically, love them or hate them they’ve worked really hard to have almost their own factory within a factory with really good standards. Saddest part is it has taken them fucking years to have managers not take bribes to hire 16yr olds and shit and have some insane contracts/pay for a large portion of the machines they use to even pull this off.

Anyways, just trying to give context to set this next part up. Apple internally (I’m sure for a long time, but serious enough my contact that is high up in the company but not top brass) is talking about logistics of sending in a hazmat team and taking those machines to be decontaminated/moved. Also talks of if that isn’t possible (might not be and needs to be done in a positive PR way) of just building new machines in a different country possibly the US.

Even before this Apple has had some fallback plans, but you have to think how big of a financial impact losing those machines would cost even to a trillion dollar company. They have been scouting other areas for a long time now (like two years) for various purposes. Pretty sure if they can get a fast enough connection ran up to Alaska they will put their next server farm there or possibly that was cover for manufacturing plant. I’m speculating beyond what I’ve been told basically.

The short thing is: shit is bad enough that Apple is gearing up to either move its machines or fucking build new ones in a different location. Honestly, they’ve been playing with this idea for a while (always have a backup), but if they completely move manufacturing away from China holy shit.

I wouldn’t expect any remotely public talk of this except maybe in 6-8 weeks through an investors call because one thing is for sure. People that have 500k in the company sure the price is going up, but they’re not making any fucking iPhones and they’re pissed. If they start to see a price drop they might announce sooner to stop the price dropping but it’s doing fine.

Hey, those who don't listen, like the CCP, just have to feel. And in this case "feeling" has meant losing any claim to great power status or competent, effective government. I really don't think Emperor Xi will be looked at the same way by other world leaders again. He's riding a paper tiger.

Yeah pretty much this. The odds of the average person dying from this are very low. Plenty of people die every year from just regular flu and millions more get it. Hell I got pneumonia from the flu the last time, that wasn't fun. The people dying in china are getting shit medical treatment and/or aren't in the best health already. It is china after all. Just breathing in the average major chinese city is like smoking several packs a day on average

Point being, we're not talking about spanish flu or the black death here. Remember when SARS was supposedly something to worry about world wide? That was a nothingburger just like this is. It spreads about on par with the flu and is treatable. What is needed is internationally enforced quarantines for borders, flights and proper quarantine procedures in hospitals and cities where outbreaks happen

Other than the obvious ones (Resident Evil, Dead Rising, etc), only one that springs to my mind is Killing Floor. Not sure if MadWorld counts, since you're just safely playing a gladitor-esque game shows of death under the guise of trying to get a cure under a virus-infested city. Funnily enough, the villain name is 'Leo', looks exactly like the guy from RE, and is the creator of the virus. There's also one game where the theme/setting is around a freezing place, I'll go back to you real quick on that.
Edit: Frost Punk is the name. Basically a game where the world is frozen over except some small pockets. You have to build your city over time, with other places visiting you from time to time withstanding ice storms. Mind you, the main story mode is short, but there's an endless/sandbox mode.

This protocol http://www.fao.org/3/U4220T/u4220T0a.htm have been used to eradicate the Screw Worm Fly from the U.S.A. and Northern Mexico and is still in effect for the occasional outbreak. Afaik they barely started testing it with mosquitoes due to the dangers you have mentioned.
 
If you don't care about graphics, Cataclysm: DDA. Don't think there's anything more detailed regarding survival sim with zombies right now, on top of that it's free.
